Wasn't he rumored to have been signed by mistake? The scout report was describing another player at the same club? Either way, we lost about £250,000 on him at a time when he had barely any transfer budget and i'm led to believe he was one or two steps above a pub player in terms of ability
I think you're making things up Ron. we paid peanuts for him (£25k I think). He went to St Mirren and was their star player for a few years so he can't have been that bad however I don't think he was quite enough of an athlete for a Hoofroyd team.
Think he was a Rodgers or Malky signing actually. I'm probably wrong about the fee (it was more than £25k though), but there was certainly a rumor at the time that we had signed the wrong player. I think he played one pre-season game and the management were shocked at how bad he was and wrote him off straight away. Didn't play a single minute of first team football for us
"Travner didn't play a single game for the Hornets after Mackay signed him from NK Celje in his homeland in the summer of 2009."
Oops correct, I have a sponge for a Brain! ... Malky and the St Mirren boss did their badges together and were mates, that's how Jure ende up there. I think he was basically signed off the back of a You Tube video and may not have been good enough however I'm certain the fee was nowhere near £250k. Someone ITK (I mean properly ITK) said as much on Gloryhorns and from memory it was £25k (but I won't swear by it).
A past signing which suddenly looks very suspicious given what has come out about Malky and his dodgy transfer dealings since. See Andreas Cornelius.
