Yes, yes I am bringing him up AGAIN, but with Leeds staying down in League 1 (thank ****), and with us massively in need of some quality up front, I believe Beckford is now a realistic and AFFORDABLE (around £1m would be enough) option. He's exactly what we need - Big and strong, yet very agile, good technically, very quick, he runs at defenders, he can use both feet and most importantly he SCORES GOALS (something none of our other 'strikers' do). I also think that IF this 'new style of play' does happen, him and Priskin could do very well together.
I thought he turned down Derby in January? If so, why would he sign for us? He also didn't look too good for Leeds today.
He was OK today I thought, but he won League 1 player of the season and was 2nd top goalscorer in the league too. Also, if you think about it, why would he of joined Derby in January? Leeds had a very good chance of getting up to the Championship and building from there, whereas Derby were already as good as down.
Good point mate re: Derby, but he's also turned us down once and for all I know he could again. Is he held in massive regard there?
Yet mate he is, but with them staying down I think if a good offer is put in he'll be allowed to leave, he'll probably want Championship football (deservedly so after this season) and I don't see Leeds turning down £1m+ at all. He is FAR from mediocre, much better than any of our current strikers.
Stop messing yourself over him, look what happened to our last league one hotshot that we signed :dismay:
Erm, what league did we sign King and Henderson from again? Did Hoskins win League One player of the year? Did he score as many as Beckford has? Are you an incredibly annoying, cocky tw*t sometimes? Also, please do name me some better strikers that we could realistically sign?
My point exactly. Beckford is just a typical League One hotshot who doesn't have enough skill to get to the next level. We might as well get Liam ****inson from Stockport. Seriously. Kabba, Hoskins, Priskin, Henderson and Ellington would all destroy League One defenses week-in-week-out.
- Yes we signed them from league one but i believe King and to a lesser extent Henderson had already played/scored at a higher level. - I couldn't care less about awards. - Hoskins had 16 by xmas, Beckford scored 20 all season. I think it's safe to say he'd have got more than 20. - I do my best. - HH, Connolly, Stokes perhaps.
This is getting worse than my Thomas Sørensen obsession - who by the way still has no new club but who has turned down Juventus.
Im in agreement beckford up front with priskin(who is in my mind our best striker but has never suited to our way of play) could be a good partnership. Failing beckford i think watford should consider jason scotland.
To be honest i think Beckford is a decent player and would do a good job in the Championship. I'd sign him if the price wasn't over inflated. Maybe use Hoskins in a swap deal? Though I think he'll come back and haunt us - looked decent on occasions and was very good against Gillingham. Personally I thought he should have been given a couple of games. Making the leap from league 1 to Premiership was far too big a gap though and his wages were higher than some of the first team according to WO
I actually asked Aidy this question directly at a fans forum the season we got promoted, it was at a Novotel hotel in Stevenage. He said that he was aware of the player that was in question but we are linked to many players and it was impossible to scout every one of them. Maybe he should have listened to me ay, i like the look of Beckford but could imagine that he and Aidys personalities may clash. Cant see us signing him.
