So how much should we expect for Jay if the proposed interest from both Sunderland & Middlesborough come forth?

    Start at 5 mill?

Keane has set himself up for a fall as people will raise the price for players he bids for for I would ask for at least 4 million but they also have such a large squad, that what we could do is ask for a load of players in return such as Stokes, Murphy etc. I hear David Connoly is itching for a move as well, worth a shout? We took one short greedy barsteward back in Tommy Smith and he soon became a fans favourite again, could little David solve those goal scoring issues;)

Don't expect anything more than £1.5 million.

We will ask for £6m and take £600k !!!

Some where between £1.5 and £2 million

    Shittu - £4 million

    Duke £ 2 million

    Priskin £250k

We'll be allowed to spend about £2 million replacing these players plus those let go so don't expect may top nnames this year

    £1.5M-£2M perhaps.

Wouldn't be a huge loss in my opinion.

How about £1.5m + Johnson on loan for the season with no recall clause?

I can see us ooffloading loads of players at the end of the season. Do not expect heaps of money, as it just wont happen and I doubt we will be recruiting either.

Next season could be a long and hard one in the Championship. Let's hop we win on Wednesday

Riggot, Catermole, Johnson All good players that would vastly improve us. Any kind of swap plus cash would do me.. Thast cash to Boro not us....

We should not be desperatly trying to get a few quid for him, we should be trying our best to keep him, as he is far better defensively than Shittu

Dump Shittu for £3m, use the money to bankroll a new contract for Jay.

    Shittu is crap.

Just because he is big and black the ignorant among the football world will be tricked into thinking he is a good defender.

As he hasn't played since he was dropped as Captain i reckon he's on the way out - maybe now Fulham are safe they will make another bid?

We had to pay around £2 million for Shittu from a team with financial problems so if we do sell Jay I'd expect to recieve a simillar amount with 500k worth of ad-ons. Then sign someone for £1 million - maybe Davenport? (easy as that eh...;))

My mate who is an Ipswich fan seemed to think the payment we recieve this season is £11 million - can anyone confirm? I thought it was much less (only £5/6 mil)

Thanks, seems to confirm what he said. Interesting to see where the relegated clubs have ended up the season after as well...main points of interest:

"Nothing makes football chairmen more uneasy than the prospect of surrendering money, and relegation from the Premiership this season will be the most expensive setback of all. Parachute payments payable over two seasons, climbing from £7.5m to £11m a year, should cushion the fall into the second tier but dramatically reduced television revenue - each Championship club will receive less than £1m next season compared with £30m in the Premiership - is a conclusive factor."

    What goes down...

How clubs have fared in first season after relegation from the Premiership

    2002-03

    Parachute payment £4.7m

Relegated clubs' finishing positions Ipswich 7th, Derby 18th, Leicester 2nd*

    2003-04

    Parachute payment £5.1m

West Ham 4th**, West Brom 2nd*, Sunderland 3rd**

    2004-05

    Parachute payment £6.6m

    Leicester 15th, Leeds 14th, Wolves 9th

    2005-06

    Parachute payment £6.5m

    Crystal Palace 6th, Norwich 9th, Southampton 12th

    2006-07

    Parachute payment £7.5m

Birmingham City 1st*, West Bromwich 4th, Sunderland 2nd*

    *promoted

**promoted after second season in second tier

He's also scored 10 goals this season (well, one was disallowed because the ref was an idiot).

Frankly, if we don't want him as a defender, I'd play him as a striker. He also had a nice run in the second half with a perfect pass which Sadler almost scored from... would have been far and away the best goal of the game if it had beat the keeper.

As for his defending... he's not the best tackler, but his head removes a hefty portion of crosses into the box before they become a threat. He is probably our most valuable (not necessarily in terms of money, but because he provides more to the team all around) player at the moment, though I prefer Demerit as a pure defender.
