They also scouted and watched Jerome Sinclair, Okaka, Diamanti and Jurado more than once and decided they were worth fees.

There's no way they'll be paying anything like €30m. You don't need to see lots of games to know what a player is like. You can tell what he's about very quickly.

Will he be a good fit a Watford? Absolutely. I think he has a lot of potential, but you have to consider the transfer fee. If it's a record signing, then that comes with an expectation. You'd think he'd be more of a finished article.

I'm hoping if we do sign him, it's in addition to Pereyra and not his replacement.

Sounds like your typical winger - got the ability and pace but does always show it !

Looked rubbish tonight. I hope he has more to offer than that if we do sign him.

Don’t think he looked rubbish tonight at all. First half he had the crap kicked out him multiple times. Clearly was targeted. Should have had a penalty, the Algerian player that lashed out at him when the ball went out for a throw should have seen red, (they are also teammates, hopefully not for long) and he was a nuisance for most of the game. Top officials in the Prem like Mason, Moss, Probert, Pawson and Dean would have been handing red cards out to Algeria like it was their job.

If we sign him, and it’s a big if, then we have a player that is a full backs nightmare. I wouldn’t complain one bit if we spend £30mil on him.

30m is chump change. As for no end product, we’re used to that.

I agree that his final ball was generally poor yesterday, but I thought that up until those moments he was very good. He was still a real threat with his pace and dribbling, should have earned one, maybe two penalties, and looked the most dangerous attacking player on the pitch together with Mane. Also, his end product is something which should improve a bit with time given that he's still 21, and even with it lacking in consistency I'd expect him to still get decent numbers given how many good situations he appears to get in to - he did manage 8 goals and 6 assists for Rennes last season, hardly "no end product".

Considering that he is a right winger his signing will have nothing to do with Pereyra's situation. If he comes in it should be to replace the ineffective Hughes, and thank god for that.

I also would be surprised if the club paid quite as much as €30m for him, but wouldn't be surprised if his fee ended up at €25m.

In Wills defence he has mostly been played out of position whilst at Watford , if you look at where he played for Derby he was a more central . He wasn't used as wing option.

That's true, and I've seen that argument trotted out a fair bit on here, but I also don't think he's good enough to justify a starting role for us as a number 10 (and doesn't have the legs and energy to play in a midfield two).

I don't think we are capable of playing a formation with a 10 given that we don't have a number 9 capable of being effective on their own, and even if we were to go down that route I'd probably sooner play Quina or Pereyra there ahead of Hughes. Hughes just doesn't carry enough goal threat.

Not entirely sure why we need this guy, when we have Lukebakio who scored more goals/assists than Sarr last year,in arguably a harder league g

I only watched his highlights, but he wins a lot of fouls.

We would need to improve our dreadful dead ball repertoire to be able to capitalise.

    Lukebakio - 10 goals, 3 assists, 2,000 minutes
    Sarr - 8 goals, 6 assists, 2,800 minutes

Sarr scored fewer goals, but had more assists and 1 more goal contribution overall. However, he contributed at a slightly lower rate when counted per minutes played.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lukebakio did indeed have a slightly higher potential than Sarr (which is also why I think the club would be nuts if they ever sold Lukebakio for less than they would pay for Sarr).

However, in response to your question, firstly it's still not clear whether both Pereyra and Lukebakio will be here come next season. Secondly, Sarr is mainly a right winger, so I'd suspect he'd mostly go there and then either Pereyra or Lukebakio would go on the left.

Lastly, I think it would actually be preferable if we had all three of Pereyra, Lukebakio and Sarr. Reason being:
    - Pereyra is mainly a left winger
    - Lukebakio is adept on the left wing and right wing, and can also play the Deulofeu role
    - Sarr is mainly a right winger, and can also play the Deulofeu role

Therefore, that would give us four players for three positions (Pereyra, Lukebakio, Sarr, Deulofeu, for LW, RW, SS).

That would actually be ideal as it would enable us to rotate a bit and make impactful substitutions, which is useful given that Deulofeu and Pereyra's stamina levels aren't that great, and I'm not convinced Lukebakio and Sarr are completely ready yet to play 90 minutes of every game either. Having these options would also enable us to mix things up a bit depending on the opposition.

I would agree but I’m working on the basis that if we buy Sarr then we would need to sell one player to compensate.

Considering we've only spend £5mil so far this window I'd hope that wouldn't be necessary. Touch-wood then Hughes would be benched.

As a side-note, if we were needing to still raise funds, out of all our assets we could still get a decent fee for I'd first sell Cucho as I'm not so sure where he'd fit in here and if he'd do that well, and maybe Pereyra while we can still get a decent fee for him and before his form drops any further. Maybe someone might give us a few £mil for Cleverley and Success as well, in which case they also might as well leave.

Im hearing this is all an "Iturbe" style smoke screen. Sarr is actually as sh1te as we all think he is and the club are fully aware of it.

Welcome To The Vitality Stadium, Ismaila.

    WATFORD STILL IN SARR TALKS

Sky sources understand Watford and Rennes remain in talks over the transfer of Ismaila Sarr.

The clubs are still apart in their valuation for the player - Watford value him at £20m with Rennes thought to want closer to £27m. Personal terms are not expected to be a problem.

Sarr played for Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations final on Friday night.

Sky saying personal terms not an issue, its just the transfer fee. They want £27m, Gino says £20 m.

I wonder if they fancy Sema in a straight swap deal.

  29. If it was Antiques Road Trip they'd just agree at £23.5m.

  30. Perhaps it's held up by the medical because his bottom is Rennes?

Unlikely but I do wonder if a deal has been done for Doucoure and we are looking at spending the money before announcing his departure - soften the blow to the fans etc

As I say, I think it’s unlikely but I still wonder why Leventhal tweeted about Doucoure the other day, totally unprompted...

This is looking good. Rated as 50/50 now based on this intelligence. Either he will sign or he won't.

Probably because someone at the club made him aware that we are willing to listen to offers of £60mil+ for him. Doucoure is a fantastic player and he does deserve to play at a club who is in a European competition every year.
