I thought he had a decent showing tonight, and don't want to get carried away as it was only 45 minutes in a pre-season game. Still to give credit where it is due. He was one of our better players in the second half, working hard tracking back and had a couple of nice runs forward. Still not convinced by some of his decision making, but at least he showed some of the right attitude.
he had a really good interview with sky earlier in the summer about turning over a new leaf. it seems he has come to preseason this year with his head screwed on the right way. could be a huge breakout year for him.
I don't suppose you have a link to either the interview or at least a transcript of it. I have heard about it but can't find it anywhere. Would certainly be a good thing to have some further competition on the wings. Bobby P probably had his best spell after taking back the left wing spot from Richarlison.
hmmm weird I cant find it either. I saw it at the time though, basically said he knows he has to work harder and is going to give this year his best shot. sounds like he is cleaning up a lot. I wonder if he could provide more competition up top, he is quick and strong enough to play in the middle just wonder if he has the maturity. we will see.
The interview was a Thursday night job and seemed to only be replayed a couple of times on sky news. He actually apologised to all Watford fans and management for not applying himself so far. Reckon he must have had an ultimatum and seems to have taken it on board.
A Teamtalk 'exclusive' has it that Mr Success has turned out not to have been successful in convincing Gracia to keep him. https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclusive-aston-villa-closing-in-on-signing-of-watford-star Lone to Villa apparently. Where have we heard that before?
Seems he came on upfront at the weekend so maybe he is the third striker we've been saying is needed (assuming Okaka is currently 2 days into his now customary mid-season break and isn't due back until March)
Looked more than competent as well with this thing called 'decent control' which I haven't seen up front for us since big Darius.
Yep, it's miles more exciting having success to throw on than okaka. As much as I like okaka, he hardly terrifies defences. I'm desperate for him to do well for us. Anyone who gets smashed on baileys while attempting to pole brasses is the inspirational figure the club has been crying out for.
Have to say I am liking the cut of this young mans jib at the moment, last few appearances he is looking like a proper player. In fact he's looking a real beast, extremely strong and very fast, more than that he seems to have developed greater awareness, pick some good passes but holds onto it when he needs to. Scored a couple, cery close with a couple more. Very pleased for him and the team that he seems to have outgrown his youthful misdemeanours, if he keeps this up he'll have a big influence I think.
He looked unbelievably good at times yesterday. If he can retain this apparent new found maturity, motivation and fitness and add a few goals to his game then he really could be a fantastic all around striker. He's fast and powerful, surprisingly composed on the ball, and his touch, hold up play and lay offs/passing put both Deeney and Gray to shame yesterday.
Capoue mentioned him in the post match interview suggesting it was easier for the midfield to play better with him up front (and GD)!
I dislike the amount of stick Deeney gets, as he does a very good job as a target man. He's also our most composed striker in front of goal. Where Deeney falls down is at Premier League level he's never going to score a lot of goals. I've seen enough of Gray to say he's a good forward player, but he's not a striker. His pace stretches teams and his work rate is excellent. What he lacks is composure. He's really poor when he's through on goal. Okaka is also a good forward player and is the best finisher at the club, however, he doesn't have the legs to play the high pressing game Watford employ. He'd be knackered after 20 minutes playing like that. So that leaves Success. He's really impressing me this season, and is now a genuine first team contender. He has pace and strength, but also his build up play and positioning is getting so much better. Again, like all the others, he doesn't seem to be all that exceptional in front of goal. He often makes the wrong choice, by shooting too early and erratically. However, unlike the others, he's young and this can be coached into his game. Not having this clinical striker does hurt us at times. The Arsenal and Fulham games would have been wins had we had someone who could take basic chances. These players do not grow on trees though and the only way Watford can realistically sign these players is when they are young with potential, like Richarlison, Pedro, Cucho and Stuparevi*
https://www.itsroundanditswhite.co....cess-at-watford.amp?__twitter_impression=true I could understand writing and publishing this article last season. But what a bizarre decision to publish it yesterday and ignore the last 3 months where his career genuinely seems to be turning around. Doesn’t do you the writers credibility much good...!
You'd think so but if you read the article, he references this season right up to before Saturday....
Did Andre Gray really play for United? I’ll echo what’s been said, what a bizarre article, considering he’s made a solid impact in every appearance he’s had so far this season, and has even earned a starting spot. Madness.
About another 4 hours then ? Good news. Lets hope there's a "Baileys and Hookers" provision in the agreement. Maybe that's how he's to be paid ?
Is there some tax advantage to this? Maybe a few of the accountants on here can comment? Rightly or wrongly seen enough of IS to suggest he would probably be a decent enough 'rough & tumble' Championship striker. What makes the club think they will get more than they paid, whilst covering substantial wages for the next 4 years?
Well they've got to pay someone for four years, they cant get rid without replacing. Besides, he's only 22, I think he will improve substantially and will greatly increase his value..
Maybe will be loaned out to Udinese in Jan. Read on his Wiki "He started his career with local side BJ Foundation Academy" Explains everything..
