So deciding to put the team that I coach into FM proves to be great fun.

I made the team, set the ground, (and a fictional capacity) and filled the squad with 0 players. That is right 0. I wanted it to be realistic, so I started with an empty squad, no coaches, no scouts and no physios, just me and the board. I put them into the Conference as this is the lowest league my poor computer can handle running for a long game and no more leagues. I also put on fake players so there would be no Beckhams etc.

I signed as many free transfers as I could as many of them weren't bothered by my poor reputation. I also loaned a couple of third division players and put in a bid of 5k for Phil Crane ( 17yrs )from Northwich Vics.

The season started well, and continued in the same vein until Christmas when I was proud to look at the table and see my team occupying last place, with 3 points and no victories. Hmmmm maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all.

Anyway, I pressed on, signed some young players from Arsenal and Chelsea (the ones that don't get pro contracts) and to put it quite simply it was a revelation. I went on a tremendous winning streak, fuelled by the goals from Andy Scott ( Chelsea 18yrs ) and the midfield play of Phil Crane (17 yrs ). By the end of march I was sitting outside the playoffs, and before the last game of the season I was 2nd in the table with my final game against 1st at home.

We rocketed out of the traps into a 0-2 deficit when Phil Crane decided to lift the whole team onto his shoulders. 2 goals from him and 2 assists left me 4-3 up with 10 minutes to go, then disaster. Goalie gets sent off, all three subs used. Need a win to get that 1st place. Which outfield player to choose to go in goal? You can probably guess which player I chose... Phil Crane stood on the line with the expectations of a club on his 17 yr old shoulders, the opposition captain started his run up and shot left, Phil Crane dived.............
    ........
    ........
    ........
and heard the thunk of the ball hitting glove, and trickling off for a corner!

We closed out the final 9 minutes plus stoppages and paraded round the stadium as we went up as champions. Phil Crane MOTM, 2 goals, 2 assists, 1 penalty saved.

    Next installment, League 2!

Sounds like a good career game, already got one though thanks. into the 2012/2013 season with Stockport, 6 years of league two football has been less than enthralling with just one play-off appearance and 3 relegation battles.

Promotion this season is looking alot more likely, got my 1st manager of the month award in 6 and a bit farking seasons last month. About time too. ;D

At the mo I've got a game in season 2013/2014 with St Albans. We're mid table in League One. When I took over they were bottom of the Conference South. It's pretty good fun taking a club like this up the leagues. My stadium has been expanded and the supporters praise me like the God I am. However I've got the feeling that we've gone as far as poss. I can't attract top notch players. I don't know why I can't, I mean St.Albans is a thriving metropolis isn't it?! My dream is still to be offered the Watford job though as they're also now in League One and I reckon I've got what it takes to be the new Taylor or Boothroyd!

So here is my update for you, League Two.

So out with the old and in with the new! Some of the players I had signed on a free transfer were sold to raise funds for my assualt on League Two. The entire back 4, one of my goalkeepers and two strikers went out, netting me almost 700k to spend on new players!

I started by bringing in a journeyman centreback from Wimbledon on a bosman, and purchasing the left winger I had on loan last season for 7k. I spent 80k on one of Preston's strikers who would otherwise be warming the bench, 110k on Andres Caballero, an ageing central defender from an arabic club who is amazing and a couple of Man U and Arsenal youth team rejects for about 10-20k each.

So off into League Two I went. 6 games in, 6 draws, 6 points. Every single one of them due to crud goalkeeping from my Conference standard 'keeper. So I went shopping... to my usual place ... Arsenal Reserves!!!!

75k later I had captured Yalcin Salih, turkish u21 back-up. With very little money left I quickly went out and got Andrew Powell, AMRLC - very useful and at 45k very cheap. Thanks Liverpool!

League Two has been quite easy since, I am joint top at Christmas and things are going quite well. Shaun Alexander (read here Sir T. Mooney) has got 22 in 22 and has rocketed from a value of 12k to 450k. I can see myself making some money come June!

My cup runs have been impressive, knocked out of the League Cup by bottom of League Two, Third round of the FA cup at home to Stoke and Semi-Final of the vans trophy or whatever it is called.

    Results of note:
    Winning 7-0 against Northampton
Winning 6-4 after being 4-0 down against Bristol City
Going to Kenilworth Road and winning 3-0.
Boxing Day vs the Scum, winning 3-1.
27th December, getting Scum manager sacked. :sign6:

Phil 'Superman' Crane still plays for me in the middle of the park. I rested him over Christmas because he was tired but he has been ever present in League Two just as he was in the Conference.

    22 games, 9 goals, 5 assists, 2 MOM, 2 Yellows, 0 Reds.
    Average rating 7.49.

Still got half a season to go yet, but I don't see myself falling below midtable even if I lost the majority of the rest of my games. I am going for Promotion.
