He left with barely a murmer from supporters. Not so much as a thankyou for your services. People say maybe the bad apples left in the summer, but I am 100% sure Craig was not among them. He was just a wee bit past it unfortunately. 247 games he played for us. Ultra professional and for the large majority ultra reliable. Chipped in with a few goals here and there also. He got 72 caps for Norn Oirland also and you don't get that many international call ups for one of the home nations if you're not a very, very good player. Played regularly in the Prem for us and was never shown up or appeared out of his league. Selected by manager after manager as 1st choice. Thanks for your efforts in a yellow shirt Craig. I for one, appreciated what you did for us.
Absolutely, Mr Kremlin!!! Can we give 'clive_ofthe_Cathcart' a capital C? In many ways, your post sums up the good and bad of both the Club and our Interweb support base. I fear that ****wittery is taking over at all levels, as owls take over bogs, swamps and moss... Anyway, back to the Malbec... Yours etc. SCG
I think most fans never had a problem with Cathcart for the simple reason is, he just got on with it. I don't think he was ever sent off either during his time here, He put the work in on and pitch and you never heard a peep from him off it. Yes we did keep him a bit past his prime and it was the correct decision to finally let him go at the end of last season, but that also proves how well he knew the club, the supporters and the game in general to want to be here as long as he did. He will never be held in many football fan's minds as the likes of Van Dike for example, but to Watford and Ireland, he will always be a player welcomed back (not to play lol) at the Vic anytime.
Given the dire state of our CB cover after shipping out Kabasele and WTE I think there is argument that it would have made sense to keep him for another year, given we cant afford a replacement.
I liked Craig. Good hard working, no trouble, reliable centre back. It's a shame not all our players had his attitude, which is unrealistic I know. I will always hold him in high regard and for me he is up there with the best, consistent centre backs we've had since I have been watching Watford. Regarding bad apples, one player who I have little time for in the "Bad Apple" era is Ben Foster. Arguably one of the best keepers we've ever had. Legend? Not for me. With his go pro camera, pre and post game vlogs and his YouTube channel, I think his attitude was rotten to the core. If I was a player, he would have frustrated the hell out of me. We would not have got on and I'm glad the likes of him have gone.
Problem with him was a complete lack of glamour and panache, and being an ugly barstard. Give me a temperamental swarthy southern European who soaks girls panties over a dull pasty Northern Irish clogger with a shyt haircut anyday. Craig Carthorse or Angella for example. There's simply no contest. The Angel Gabriele all day long.
Surprised no one in a lower league has snapped him up, I see he's been called up for the NI squad so assume he's kept himself fit and is still looking.
It was another baffling decision. When they let WTE, Kabs and Cathcart all go, I thought obviously they had at least one player lined up.....but of course I should have known better.....they didn't. We need cover and he's certainly not a 'bag egg'. For me, it would be a no brainer. Sure, it's probably time to let him go, but in the absence of anyone coming in, with us using 3 CB's out of 4 in every matchday first team line-up, we're just left with Pollock to cover the entire CB position. Cathcart, imo, is a lot better than Pollock, so it makes perfect sense to re-sign him, if we cannot find another CB willing to play as a backup/rotational option. But if we do do that, it will open up a new can of worms criticising the club over not having much clue about what they're doing.
Would make sense. Maybe he was offered a vastly reduced deal as back up and rejected to see whether he could get himself a better deal. Maybe he has some irons in the fire, maybe not.
Angella was skilful but an absolute liability at centre-back. Maybe he should have positioned himself outside the ground so the likes of Certs could ogle him.
He was a liability which is why his career completely petered out. Scored a great goal at NF though !
Joined Kortrijk in Belgium. Good luck Craig. Been to watch Kortrijk a couple of times, good club and fans, nice little stadium. Also a nice town - bit like St Albans.
My favourite two were the one goal in a 1-0 over Birmingham in 2015 which almost pushed us over the promotion line, and the winner v Spurs 5 years ago this week which maintained our 100% start after 4 games, seems like an age ago now.
