Have heard that this will happen by wednesday. Figure quoted were 1.7m rising for Darius and over 3m for Nathan. Comes from someone very close to the club, but i can't reveal who so feel free to not believe me. Might be complete rubbish, but this guy is in the know. Will
Hope that true seeing as though Hendo wants to leave and Ellington will give us Pace and Power up front.
I would be absolutely delighted if this turns out to be the case. IMO this would be the ideal scenario, prob too good to be true though!
As I said in the General Football thread, if Ellington is not decent in the air and at holding the ball up with defenders pulling his shirt and booting his backside then this really won't be that great business imo. King and Kabba up front yesterday failed miserably, with them not winning a single header between them and neither of them able to hold the ball up from our defensive hoofs. We genuinely needed Hendo. Ellington is not dissimilar in build and height to Kabba from what I can remember, correct me if I'm wrong.
In the BBC gossip columns it says Fulham are in for Jan Koller so hopefully they'll get him Ellington will come and Hendo stays.
I watched the game yestrday and when Ellington came on he got no service and no chances to do anything as Sheffield Utd were on the attack for the whole game practically.
If we change our style of play (i.e make wholesale changes to the team) then we have no need for a target man, just somebody to play off King and vice-versa. Problem is we are putting all our eggs in one basket then, especially if the changes aren't made.
ellington is like marlon and kabba - they get their goals outside the 6 yard box. marlon is the tallest at 6ft but still looks small against most defences. we don't need ellington. we need a target man that can also score headers and tap ins. he is not fit, he's recovering from a broken leg and not available but the player wthin our budget would be......................... Rob Hulse.
Agreed, except I'd say we already have the player we need and Aidy is about to lose him due to immensly bad man management ... DARIUS HENDERSON!
Sorry which bit of this applies to Henderson "we need a target man that can also score headers and tap ins". Doesn't sound much like the Doris we've got to me!
Fulham won't get Jan Koller, I'm almost certain of that. So if Henderson is what they really want they will get him and we probably won't be able to replace him with a suitable target man. However I think this will be the perfect scenario because then Aidy will have absolutely no choice but to change the system to a more technical game with more passing along the floor and movement, which Ellington should be great at, especially if we have Rinaldi feeding him through balls to feed off.
Can't believe that some people are saying that we do not need Ellington. Whilst I understand that we still need a Doris -Like Target man, the fact of the matter is that Ellington is far better than anything we already have (Marlon excluded) and is a proven Goalscorer. Why would we turn that away? If Marlon is to get injured we would still have a quality Goalscorer!....and it's not always as black and white as "You need a big man and a little man"!. It's all about adapting the way you play and playing to your strengths.
You cant play passing football with Mahon, Doyley and Stewart in the side. Henderson is a must seeing as we are a long ball side. Thats why Priskin, Hoskins, Rinaldi dont get a look in our side. There out of place in our long ball side.
No he has quality but it is rarely seen. I think perhaps it is hoped we will get the best out of him. He looks a bit half baked at the moment with a lack of match practice. Would be good, wouldn't bet on it happening.
That's what it looks like to me. The Baggies don't rate him and say he doesn't have any heart. They also think he is unlikely to move south.
The whole thing seems ridiculous and a move that neither party really wants! Surely there's someone else out there we can go for
Kenny Miller has been put up for sale by Celtic. Could be worth a shot, as I thought he looked quite good at Wolves.
Not wanting to play when he had a bruised toe didn't exactly endear him to the fans. 10 goals from 37 appearances isn't spectacular for a striker and the number of times he was subbed or used as a sub is indicative.
