Rumours about on Glory Horns that Henderson is set for a move up north (no club talked about so could proven be untrue) Surely we don't really want to sell a player who we know can score goals at the level our season will start in come August (Remember apart from King our other strikers aren't...) unless Aidy really believes Helguson or ANOTHER will come. Spring and Young have gone from the 4 top scorers in 05/06 and can we really afford to lose another? King cannot do it all by himself unless Aidy has the belief Hoskins and Priskin will do the business (personally I think they could) I'd rather keep Henderson here though.
Personal point of view here, if Hendo goes its because HH is coming back or a similar player to Hendo or HH otherwise Hendo isn't going. If hendo goes it will be at the same time as his replacement arrives.
Hendo - crap Prem player. Great Championship player. He is different to HH and I would hate for him to go. First out of the door should be Kabba. Keep the Hendo. Time for beer - goodnight.
I think you're 100% correct there PYA.... Hendo WAS HH's replacement and at the time, we were ALL unhappy about it (well I was) Aidy mentioned recently that he had to sell H to improve the side as a whole, it would make sense to bring back a crowd favourite and proven goalscorer at the expense of a player who played a ton of games with very little return last year.
I think you are being extrmely harsh on the players KJ - lay blame at one man only and that is Aidy for the teams failings last season. He is big enough to take the constructive criticism - 1) - With hindsight there should have been a proven premier striker brought into the club in case Marlon and Hendo failed in their duties ( but then again every position could be treated the with same thought pattern and we do not have the resources). Marlon got injured (something that a manager who claims to have every stone unturned and is prepared for everything did not account for) and Hendo was left alone to fight the cause until January. 2) - I think Aidy is great and want him to stay to do the job for a long time, however he is a novice at management and has far more to learn than the players themselves. 3) - Aidy said he had a great team around him ( outside the players) yet there were big changes during the season. Why did Aidy feel the need to change coaching personnel at that time? Was that a flaw in his choosing or were they replaced because Aidy felt he could get better people in? 4) - The big test and the real future lay on this one forthcoming season IMO - Aidy will show he has learned and the players will show they have grown and developed and take us back up. Once up ther will be absolutely no excuse for us not to spend as the club will have had over the course of three seasons ( including the deferred monies) of say £70 million from sky and £9 million from Ash and ticket sales and shop sales. Our debts would be minimal if not totally repaid, the ground development funds should not be a problem and there should be plenty in the coffers to pay good wages for good quality players and fees without risking the future of the club like in the italian era. If we do not go up this coming season then that would be more of a set back than the relegation was last season. This season is the season that was sort of earmarked at the commencement of Aidys reign as the one we fans looked at for promotion. KJ - Just some other views to look at.
I hope he doesn't go. If he does, I will only accept H as a replacement. We can't afford to lose our only proven striker, in our only proven partnership. There is no guarentee that Hoskins or Priskin will link up well, or even score in this division (though personally I think it shall be a very goal happy season :]]) but I would not be prepared to take the risk. Hendo is our only aerial threat.
If Hendo is to go I think that Alan Lee, currently at Ipswich where he scored 16 goals last season, would be a perfect replacement for him. I was very impressed with him last time we played Ipswich, he is in the same mould as Hendo, but is a better all round striker IMHO, and he would not cost the earth either.
Playing 2 wingers this year it's important that we have two strong airiel players to cover for each other. I can see teams coming and parking the coach at the Vic and there will be times when we will need to be direct. Having both of them on the pitch in the last 10 or 15 minutes would cause havok
i dont want him to go. kabba first but on saying that aidy must has faith in him to have not given him away :whoosh::whoosh:
Funnily enough when the talk of Kabba to Preston surfaced I spoke with a cousin who is a season ticket holder at North End and he confirmed a Preston interest in a Watford striker but didn't think it was Kabba, so possibly Henderson to Preston just might be on the cards. As an aside the fee he had heard being talked about was £1.2m.
I don't understand the point in selling Henderson to buy Lee, they are far too similar. We should keep Hendo, there'd be no point in selling him! We hardly need the money we would get for him and even with HH here he would still be 3rd/4th choice with Priskin, play a fair number of games and come in handy against more physical opposition or in scenarios as outlined by With A Smile. Sell him once we've got promoted again.
Their is no way I would let Doris go,Ok he didnt score that many goals last year but IMO his all round play improved, and when he scored that goal at west-ham it breeded confidence, and looked a far better player than some are giving him credit for. One thing I will say the guy never gave up and always gave 100% and I for one think it will be a huge mistake in letting him go.
He would do well in the champ. If we went up I;m sure he would do better as you pointed out once he got that first goal he was a different player. Saying that if we were to get promoted I wouldnt want him as a main striker to King though.
I really hope Doris stays, works his socks off for the team, worries the life out of defenders with his strength and tenacity. Didn't score many last year and suffered through lack of confidence but he was integral in the promotion season. Any 2 from the four of King, HH(if), Doris and Priskin is as good as anything in this league IF they get the service.
Bulls eye there jobby. Service means more than the hoof. We need crosses in, throughballs down the middle, 1-2s with the midfielders coming into the box as a free man. And we need the occasional hoof.
Couldn`t agree more. Marlon and Doris are a proven striker pairing and it is folly to discard a combination like that. If necessary we should change the formation a bit to stretch defences wide.
HH can be affected by injury. I would love him to come back, but would not let Hendo go if Heidar arrived. We do not need to. I was really impressed by Big Doris last year in the way he kept his temper and tried his socks off. He gets unjust critique. Doris has big game temperament (WHU pen and play off final pen), he is awesome. Show some bloody loyalty. Priskin and Hoskins...I'm not convinced. Kabba with an injury free pre season should prove all his doubters wrong too. My front four are Doris, HH, the King and Kabba.
Why not give our young strikers who have good potential a go though? I think Priskin will start alongside King and score goals whilst we have really not seen much of Hoskins to make a full judgement. If they fail to perform then fine but lets wait and see. If Kabba deserves to be given a chace so should they. I agree though it would be nice if Henderson did stay. Whatever happens we can just not rely on King Marlon.
From Sky Sports http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=477522&CPID=10&clid=57&lid=&title=Duo+target+Henderson Skysports.com understands Preston and Sheffield United are lining up bids for Watford's Darius Henderson. The two clubs are keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season and they have identified Henderson as one of their top targets. North End are in the market for a new striker after seeing David Nugent leave for Portsmouth. United boss Bryan Robson is keen to strengthen his strikeforce with Rob Hulse sidelined for the start of the new season as he continues his rehabilitation from a double leg fracture. The duo are now believed to be ready to test Watford's resolve to hang onto Henderson by lodging firm offers for the powerful hit-man. Henderson is a proven goalscorer in the Championship having scored 15 goals in Watford's successful promotion to the Premier League in the 2005/06 season. North End and United are now ready to do battle for the former Gillingham forward as they look to build sides capable of challenging for promotion next term.
Sheffield United fans don't seem too pleased at the prospect! http://boards.footymad.net/mboard/fmb.php?tno=463&fid=221&sty=2&act=1&mid=2132600667 Maybe they only remember last season and not his record in the Championship?
Doris seriously missed King last season. I'd like to see him given a chance and I think it's owed to him after the promotion year. I also don't really want to see any of our squad go until Xmas. We'll have a better idea of postion and requriements by then as well as the desperation of other teams pushing the prices up.
I am pleased that we are being approached for our players. This means that we have better players than the clubs who want to buy ours! There has been two interesting statements by Aidy recently-: 1. We are not selling our crown Jewels unless someone makes an unbelievable offer. 2. I need two more players. So why not HH and DJ? DJ can play anywhere up front. What a great selection of forwards we would then have. All having to push one another to stay in the team. We as fans would not be looking at the lists to see who could come on, and not worrying about a lack of depth. Come on be +ive.
Aidy said a striker that will excite the fans (HH) and a two-footed winger. And DJC is not a two-footed winger.
