    Hi fellow Hornets fans!

I'm a football fan who became attached to Watford shortly after Jay DeMerit earned his trial with the club from Northwood FC. Since then, I've become encumbered by the Yellow Fever and am proud to call Watford my favorite club. Also hope to make a trip to Hertfordshire someday and explore the region and maybe attend a match.

Just wanted to introduce myself. :)

    Hey Phill

I believe I may be the guy who directed you here from BS. I was just talking about you over here.
Welcome! I'm in LA, where are you? We also have the inapproporiately named TorontoTimmy up in Vancouver BC rounding out the West Coasties. We are usually on this board at game time for the shoutbox. Login tomorrow at 7am and check it out.

    Cheers
    Fitz

Is our popularity amongst septics something to do with our squad resembling a basketball team and our style of play like watching gridiron??

I believe Phil states rather clearly why he's become a WFC fan, and it's the same reason that has drawn me to the team...

    Welcome to the forum.

I'm staying in Detroit for a couple of weeks (nice weather BRRRRRRR !!) and have already visited one or two sports bars. The channels shown are pretty much dominated with American Sports and talking to people, it seems it will take many years, if ever, for Football (the European kind) to ever take off.

Most North Americans just don't seem to be able to handle the lack of scoring. It's not a technical thing as American Football in particular is a highly technical game.

You would have thought that with the number of Europeans and Hispanics living in the US that things would change but until mainstream TV starts showing the game (which will be down to sponsorship) things will remain as they are.

One area that the Brits should take note his how the game is delivered to the everyday fan ... over here each game is an event and treated as such. Fans are 'customers' who are treated as such in terms of facilities and this makes the whole product a better all round experience IMO. If you asked a Yank what he would think to a being herded in the ground without even the top from his coke bottle for comfort, forced to que at halftime for the loos, and charged over the odds for lukewarm Bovril I think you know what his answer would be.

If you come over to GB you could do alot worse than come to the Vic but maybe wait until the ground is finished but before Jay has retired. also treat yourself to a game somewhere like the Emirates (IMO Arsenal fans are a decent bunch).

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! I'm happy to have finally found a WFC message board.

Wow, small world. Are you "Lolonearbyyolo" on Big Soccer? I know I was kindly referred to this website (as well as the Watford Observer Online club page) from him, for which I am very grateful. I'm up north of you, in Oregon. Plenty of fans of the "big 4" as well as Fulham (for the American connections), but very few American fans are willing to venture into the Championship for their club of choice.

I try to hold it down for our club on Big Soccer, when I can: http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=643913

What's wrong with Hertfordshire? Forgive my ignorance of the subject.

Everton & Tottenham are my distant 2nd and 3rd clubs in terms of support, so I think White Hart Lane or catching an Everton away match would be my 2nd match attending choice after the Vic.

there is literally nothing there. at all! if you were going to come to england then hertfordshire should only be used as a base to travel to london. maybe i'm just a self-hating hertforshirite, but i think its crap

Ouch ... while I don't mind the Bindippers (Ex Andy Gray) the North London Wannabees and Shouldabees just get my goat (listen to any football phone-in around 5:00pm Sat and you'll know what I mean).

Tell that to my US/Canadian relatives who just love 'Cute Old Downtown St Albans'.

If you look for it Herts has alot to offer (especially if you like to ruin a 4.5 mile walk by trying to hit a small white dimpled ball !!)

Most people in LA have never been to the Hollywood sign, never gone surfing, never been on a movie set, or visited the La Brea tar pits, all things I always saw as synonyous with LA.

Check me off on all of them though.

    Yeah don't come to Hertfordshire.

They have basically turned it into one big housing estate.

Nothing to see, nothing to do, just a commuter county for people going to other more interesting places.

Hemel is pretty much the worst of all the towns in it as well. Absolutely nothing happens, ever. Just loads and loads of tracksuited kids sitting about smoking weed every night.

Go to Watford, watch the game, get on a train and get as far away as possible.

Hey, sorry for the super long delay. I had long since forgotten about this thread.

To answer your question, we will have an MLS team in Seattle beginning next year (the Seattle Sounders). I'm glad to see that, but am hoping for the Portland Timbers to also make the jump in the next few years.

MLS needs to temper its expansion to prevent dillution of the fragile talent pool here in the States, but I'd still like to see a First Division team closer to home.
