Watford are set to welcome back Heidar Helguson for £2million from Fulham.
The Iceland striker, 29, left the Hornets for £1.3m in 2005.

Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd said: "I sold him because I needed the money. Now we are in a better financial position."

It would be great if we sign him just today and he plays tonight!!

Tribal Football is carp. They prob took the rumour from here and made the rest up.

I think what is interesting is that Fulham played a friendly against Dagenham last night and Sanchez fielded two different teams each half. Heidar wasn't in either. H is either injured or deffo on his way out.

I wouldn't pay more than £1.5mn and £15k / week but at that price he can do a job and give us strength in depth in the striker department and bye bye Kabba.

Do you think 2 million is good value then?

A proven goalscorer at this level but a little injury prone and for some odd reason we often did better without him in the Lewington era although that was not down to H because he was a good player (maybe just luck of the team we were playing) and well saved us from relegation in 04/05.

2 million means we either undesold HH or HH has improved by the tune of £700k. As to being good value the crowd would welcome him home and would be deemed as a good buy, however in business terms one normally buys a product at one price and then sells for a bigger price or get the term of useage from the product to make the initial outlay value for money. In this case it would appear that Foolham have out businessed us if they recieve 2 million because I doubt that HH has improved by £700k and its not like we are buying potential, we are buying what we know he has got, which is what he left us with yet a bit older.

I am hoping that we do sign him but I will just have to wait and see what happens. We have all seen rumours not work out so I am understandably sceptical at the moment.

As for the price, it is expected that a player that has played in the Premiership will cost more than the same player coming from the Championship.

Considering that no newspapers or websites, other than fansites, had actually rumoured our interest in Helguson until now (I've only seen that he might join West Brom or Charlton), this sudden, simultaneous bout of rumours is very interesting.

Also, I doubt it would be £2mil up front, I would expect that £2mil would be including potential add-ons. Plus, even if it was, then I'm not that bothered that we would have bought him for more than we sold him for- the transfer market this summer has been very inflated and I'd much rather spend £2mil on Helguson than Sharp or Eastwood (though Eastwood cost a few £k less).

All the signs seem to be saying that HH is coming back.

Anyway we'll see in the future what happens

Paddy you are ignoring basic market forces (and discounted cash flow).

The (silly prices) being achieved for Prem. strikers at present means that £2 million for H is actually fair value (I rate him above Harewood - even with the age difference) as we know what he can do for us.

We have also been able to use £1.3 million to rebuild the team - so the money was reinvested at the lower prices that applied at that time.

The results of those actions secured the club`s financial future by earning substantial sums in the Premiership (also indirectly inflating Young`s price).

Incidentally Talk Sport radio have just said that we are Trying to sign H today, which I really hope is correct.

we dont need him, we have 2 or 3 proven scorers for the championship as well as 2 or 3 young ones to back them up, would be a waste of money in my eyes, maybe a bit more strength in depth for the defence would be better

Very valid points and changed my view on 2million being reasonable - but we got Luther back for 1/2 million and got 1 million for him - its our tradition to buy back at half the price we sold.

Thanks, you saved me typing much the same thing. At today's prices, £2m is good value for a man whose ability we are all well aware of. The market has changed dramatically this summer, with silly money the order of the day for most players. £2m for a player who we know and love as much as H is a shoe-in. Plus we might get Madheidar back on the boards giving us news from Iceland.

    Great post!

What's 700k these days? So what if we undersold him? I don't actually think we did, I think we got a fair price for him seeing as he had a year left on his contract! The market as you say has changed drastically, Crouch has had a £25,000,000 price tag on him :dismay:

We know what we're getting with HH, he knows what it takes at this level and also in the Premiership...unlike Sharpe, Eastwood and a few others being named!

£2,000,000 is great business as far as i'm concerned....as someone said the other day, HH could be the difference between play-offs and automatic!

However we sold him for £1.3 hes had a couple of average seasons and now hes £2mill, i do think we undersold him a bit, if he was english we would have got £3 mil or more at least i would say. At the same time though because young is english we oversold him so i guess you win some you lose some.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but.......

If HH does come back do you think it will have an adverse effect on The King ?.

At the moment Marlon is the King of Vicarage road, HH is a legend in is own right and is viewed by some as a god.

If HH came back do you think all the cheering, singing the hype aimed at HH will get the King taken off his throne ?.

Not sure if Marlon is one to share the lime light..

( if its already been a topic i apologies )

Hopefully, with 2 legends up front, they will spur each other on to even greater accomplishments. What's more, in the games where King is not quite at the races, we will not be totally devoid of attacking options, with Heidar to fall back on. Who remembers his FA cup showing agains Chelsea in the cup a couple of years back? Up front on his own, he scored a "great" goal (never crossed the line), but made World Cup winner Dessailly look shytt for the whole match.
