Maybe we will sign one of their players There number 26 was good. The question would be, would a player swap an Isreali top team and Europe for an English championship side and scunthorpe.[/I]
or the opportunuty to play at a decent level in England to put himself in the shop window for a bigger club in a year or two or stay with us in our premiership season 08/09. Was a good player, a very good player and a wfc rep was talking to someone about him from the opposition, thats the only reason why I am mentioning it. The point is would someone's ambition be a reason to change from a decent club playing in Europe to come to a club like watford albeit we are at a decent level and in England but not in Europe or even in the premeirship. Haifa took the game very seriously and were well pleased with the result, maybe they thought we were going to be better then we actaully were on the day.
you're answer would obviously be NO, but for a player with some ambition would he see a step into the English game an attraction and a foothold to go on to better things. Opportunity is the question here. Or is your No based on not coming to Wattford because you reckon we are carp and going nowhere like most of your posts suggest is your view? ( no dig intended, but from reading your posts that is my view of your thoughts on wfc)
not quite sure of a dsignated position, seemed to be everywhere with good skills, ball control and the ability to pass and run and recieve and not shy to tackle and was strong. I never found out the players name.
surely playing european football would be a better shop window that the championship, when nowadays at least, there seems to be little movement from players making the step up?
Looks like this could be the guy Paddy mentioned Lior Refaelov From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Personal information Date of birth April 26, 1986 (1986-04-26) (age 21) Place of birth Or Akiva, Israel Height 1.76 m (5 ft 9 in) Playing position Midfielder Club information Current club Maccabi Haifa Number 26 Youth clubs 1998-2004 Maccabi Haifa Senior clubs1 Years Club App (Gls)* 2004-present Maccabi Haifa 44 (2) 1 Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only and correct as of 29 April 2007. * Appearances (Goals) Lior Refaelov (Hebrew: ליאור רפאלוב) (born April 26, 1986) is an Israeli football player playing for Maccabi Haifa. In 1998 Refaelov began to play in Maccabi Haifa youth teams. In 2002/2003 season he moved up from the under-16 team to the youth team of the club, and scored already in his first against Neve Yossef. During the 2003/2004 season he scored 7 goals in the youth team, lead it to the youth championship and won the best player award. His first goal in the first team he scored at 2004/2005 season on a Penalty kick against Hapoel Nazareth Illit, a game which Haifa won 6-0. Refaelov is considered to be a great prospect and possibly the next Eyal Berkovic or Yossi Benayoun.
My answer Paddy, is based on the fact that only a lifelong, yellow blooded fan would choose the Championship as a better shop window than playing against the top leagues sides in the world in Europe. I don't think we're carp by the way, I think we're perch. I know some of my views are totally opposite to yours in terms of our potential this season, but I would be as delighted as you if you are right and I am made to look like a negative ass. Here's hoping!
From the Championship to the Premiership? According to the BBC, Earnshaw, Cook, Baird, Healy, Nugent, Cranie, Etuhu, Chopra, McShane, Bale, Nash and Koumas all used last years' Championship performances to gain a Premiership move this summer. And there's still a month to go. The silly tv money this year is changing things...
Well obviously the players have to have the quality first! Your point was surely that there's little opportunity for players with talent to gain a move from the Championship to the Premiership? If this Haifa player has talent the current trend suggests he'd get the move up.
Yeah, but I'd argue that he has a much better chance of a more lucrative move to a larger club, if he can show his worth against top clubs in a European competition. If he plays in the Championship, then Fulham is his best destination.
