How embarrassing. Every team is due a thrashing from Barca or Real during the season but that was totally incompetent. They're down now. I see no way that they'll recover. I'm not convinced Pozzo's experiment there will last much longer. They certainly won't have much ambition until the revenue rules change drastically. As long as they can't keep hold of players like Siqueira and Brahimi then the glass ceiling is very, very low. We all talk about how ridiculous the TV money in the Premier League is, but that is the only thing that will allow us to push further into the PL than Granada have in La Liga.
To be fair, I followed the match and at the beginning Granada was decent. After the 0-2 they simply dissolved. Yet playing at Bernabeu was certainly not the match where to gain precious points. Losing 1-0 or 9-1 makes little difference (apart from the morale of course). Table position at equal points depends from head-to-head matches, so goal difference is not so important. The table is still short: Deportivo 17th is 3 points up. Getafe 13th is 6 points away. Eight team involved in the relegation battle. Granada is in a very bad situation but certainly not doomed already. A couple of wins and it could jump a few positions.
We are currently in South Eastern Spain and need to use some pre paid diesel so had planned an over night stay in Granada this week to try and take in the sights and the Granada v Celta Viga game. Can't see the online ticket website is selling tickets yet despite the fact the game is in a couple of days. Perhaps the trouncing they took from RM has the City on a downer. Any heads up on what to do when in town ??
Surely Watford in Premier means more money for the Pozzo project and a more competitive Granada team? Unless they decide Spain isn't worth bothering with because Madrid/Barca take all the TV money.
It's still worth it. 2 years for a Spanish passport for South American + African players, which is great for players who'd fail to get a work permit. Imagine they'll get some of our players who aren't good enough for the prem if they go down and we go up.
Isn't the TV money issue going to change in Spain soon, I'm sure I read it somewhere that the new structure of TV deals are going to be more like it is here?
Get somewhere to stay. Then find out where a supporters bar is, go in wearing colours and see what happens. If that doesn't work then chance your arm with the club (seriously). I *think* buying a ticket in Spain is a major hassle due to their fan / ID card legislation. Tell us how you get on as I'm thinking of treating myself to Granada's last game of the season as a birthday present (and celebrating us in the premier league) around 24th May.
I suspect we're not flavour of the month in Granada right now. The resources of the triple project seem to be concentrated on us with Granada relatively forgotten. Iggy? Layun? That might make financial sense for the Pozzo's but it's hardly likely to be reasoning that'll appeal to Granada fans at the moment.
In 10 man after Murillo got a second yellow. Must keep it. Would be three huge points towards safety.
Absolute heart-breaker, that. Also poor to throw it away that late, though, having done 99.9% of the hard work.
Although as watford fans we know that feeling very well from games like Ipswich and many others in recent seasons !
Currently 2-0 down to Almeria. Almeria went into the game in 18th, one point ahead of Granada, but will move out of the relegation zone with a win. Deportivo La Coruna would drop in until their game tomorrow, though they're playing Atletico Madrid so you wouldn't expect a result there. If the result stays as it is, Granada will be 4 points away from safety. Not looking good...
Shame that, a win would have been very useful. When I look at their table, I can't help but feel guilty, as if we're the reason they're struggling this season.
I know it's weird but I feel like we've really been the focus of the Pozzos and granada somewhat neglected... after all we got Ighalo from them and he was a first teamer, followed by signings via them (such a Layun) that they could perhaps have used.
The signings via them were never theirs so that's a non-starter. And 16 appearances with 2 goals for Iggy in La Liga last season suggests he wasn't a key player for them either. So save your conscience
