Any else see the Galaxy- Redbulls match. Beckham had to assists but the star of the game was Joxy Altidore who had two goals and looks bound for Europe at the end of the season. Red Bulls 5, Galaxy 4
5-4. Says something about the defense's Saw it on Sky Sports where praise was heaped on Beckham, didnt hear anything about Altidore.
Alot of the focus is put on Beckham in every game he plays. When the sports network was recapping the game the next day it showed every clip of Beckham taking good free kicks or crosses but only showed 6 of the Goals.
Yes, Jozy is going to be great for the US, and for some European team soon. Personally, I hope he goes to Portugal or Spain after the season.
You're only half right already. In my opinion, most of the MLS teams are as awful as most of the Championship teams (ahem), yet the MLS players typically make 1/10th what CCC players do. The quality is not as good as it needs to be, but twice as good as it was 5 years ago. This league is 12 years old... Beckham has already moved the needle as far as getting the scope of the game to reach further than ever before here. That has already led to far improved TV revenue and kit sales, and will result in expansion of the salary cap, higher profile signings, better alignment with the international football calendar, and better management on the field. The only thing that can stop it now is terrible business management. Beware the sleeping giant that is US Soccer.
Well said, i am tired of people ripping the MLS. when the revune starts to in crease the league will steadly get better, becuase it will atrack better players. Right now there are All-starts who are geting paid $ 40,000 a yr. Not many people want to play for that kind of wage.
The money doesn't concern me about the Major League of Softies, It's the fact that the teams are of the same calibre as league 1 or 2 teams, despite what anyone says. Boring... I'm not interested in Yeovil so why LA Galaxy?
Why not? It's just football discussion in the correct forum. Shove off if you don't care....but I don't agree with your assessment. 5 years ago you would have been absolutely correct, though. This year, the best MLS teams can beat the lower Premiership teams. The worst MLS teams would fight for a Championship playoff spot. That being said, all Championship SHOULD beat MLS teams when they play them based on the amount of money the teams can pay to players. Even with all the semi-amateur players, I put the level of MLS in the mid-Championship to the lower Premiership range. Of course we have only friendlies to compare head to head. How have those turned out? Many are wins for MLS teams. More than you'd think. Championship teams fare poorly here on their friendlies. I suspect 'Crystal Palace' couldn't beat 'Crystal Palace USA', and that team isn't even in MLS.
what are all of the facts in this thread based on!!!! how can we tell if they could beat a prem league team or not
Like I said, the only way to tell is performance in friendlies. It goes without saying that opinions I have are my opinion, it goes the same for everyone...my opinion is based on watching both leagues every week for years.
that seems an ever so slightly generous opinion. I reckon MLS is at a standard of championship sides who don't disgrace themselves, yet are neither the kind of teams who push for automatic promotion. at least thats what sean wheelock says, who for me is the authority on mls football
I won't disagree with you fan, but there are teams and times that have been very very good. This league will only improve, too. I also enjoy watching Aussie A-League and women's football, so you can conclude I'm just a sucker for the game..? I don't enjoy the J-League nor do I like Mexican Football, though I see a lot of that, too.
Having seen both MLS and English games on TV many times I would say that the MLS is on a par with the Coventrys and Ipswichs of this world. But there are some very good players, that would do a job in the Premiership.
