After being told that I have either torn my medial ligaments or my cruciate ligaments in my left knee in October last year, I have just recieved a letter saying that I have been given an appointment with a specialist.

The joys of the NHS eh?

I am lucky get it through work.

Standard of care, quickness etc is superb.

See a doctor within a week, op's can be as quick as the following week.

I was chatting to a women at work the other day, and her husbands knee went on Friday night and he had an operation on Saturday lunchtime, by the same doctor I need to see, so cant fault them when its like that.

But for me, the treatment I have recieved has been very poor.

Yep, BUPA can be VERY quick. The 1st time I snapped my achilles tendon (Sunday AM footy match) was at the doc's Monday morning, at the Physio Monday lunchtime, seeing the specialist Monday 5pm, straight into a private ward, operation on Tuesday evening.

With Bupa i see the consultant every 8 to 12 weeks.

During that appointment he gets the diary out and i pick a date to go in for the Op.
This can be as quick as the same week or as long as i want to put it off for (or am allowed to).

The cleanliness and standard of care are exemplary.

It is very expensive but I am fortunate to get Private Health as part of my package. A 15 min basic consultation is normally around the £200 mark.

Always makes me laugh as the consultant is seriously minted, he had a new porker today.

my experience of the nhs as a child was great. got diagnosed and operated on within a week. as an adult though, 3 months down the line i've just given up on bothering. my last appointment summed up in a short manner would be 'we still don't know whats going on, but it doesn't seem to be getting much worse, so don't come back'

its not a problem. i'm just more comfortable staying up until the morning and waking up late afternoon. until the E.U starts legislating against me i'm never gonna stop!

If you tore the medial ligaments in October haven't they healed by now on their own?

I tore medial ligaments skiing in BC a few years ago on the last day of the trip. Immediate scans and x-rays in Kamloops hospital and flown home first class because my knee was in a brace. The rest of the family were down the back of the plane and didn't speak to me for days. NHS started physio as soon as the swelling had gone down. Then I had a programme of exercises for the muscles to support the knee and I was playing tennis again in 3 months.

My experience of the NHS years ago was of long waits and indifferent care but in the last ten years I have found huge improvements.
