Growing up in the late 80’s with a Liverpool fan as a father I think that I have done well to be come a Watford supporter, so the trip to Liverpool for me was one of the most important away games this season. I had never been to Anfield before, never heard the famous Kop roar. I started the day with high hopes and expectations’, although admittedly repeating our last away win in the premiership at the same ground was not one of them.

It was an important day for me, after beating Liverpool at Anfield last time in the premiership, my dad wouldn’t let me in the house for about a month, bearing in mind I kept turning up in a Watford top probably didn’t help, I still thought it a bit harsh. I had spoken to my dad on the way up and he told me quite clearly if we did win then he was taking all my Christmas presents back and I would not be allowed in their house for Christmas, a tad harsh I thought.

Hearing you’ll never walk alone gave me goose bumps – although I did get a bit annoyed with the man standing next me singing it, I am sure he had a liverpool scarf on under his coat, as it was the only time he made a noise during the entire match. Foster had an excellent first half and made some amazing saves, I nearly cried when Bang Bang missed but at the end of the first half the flicker of hope had grown, we may actually get a point!!! However I was very surprised at the quietness of the Liverpool fans.

But then just as at Newcastle we conceded soon after the restart unfortunately there was no goal back as there had been at Newcastle. But did the scousers start to sing then? No they didn’t. The second half we managed to stay in the game and had a couple of half chances on goal but Alonso killed the game off late on.

For me going to Liverpool was a chance to see the team my dad has supported for over 40 years at home, and to be fair I was disappointed. The ground was not as impressive as I thought it would be, the fans were terrible and we lost. I guess the only good thing to come out of the game was the fact that I did actually get my Christmas presents and get to eat Christmas dinner with my family, although I would have gladly given it all up for a win.

I have only been supporting watford for almost 10 years, not 20, we have also only played them twice in that time away? Once when I was a student, and couldn't afford it, my mum doesn't pay for me you see, and the last time I couldn't get any time off work, I never can in January.

Although why I am explaining myself to you I don't know.

    thanks!!

I am trying to get a link to my dad's Liverpool forum he uses - I told him how disappointed I was and he posted on his forum telling them all how disappointed I was. Be interesting to see what they have to say about that!!! Dad's in France though so can't find out which one it is!!

My Cousin Sean was at Hillsborough and was pulled away from the carnage, never will forget that afternoon and waiting to find out Sean's outcome. Ever since I do have a soft spot for Liverpool.

Faith, being a Sweaty as you Southern Pansies like to describe us, I remember the days of Kenny Daglish and Graham Souness.

Quality team, your Father has good taste.

    Pansies!!!!! You're calling me a Pansy!!!!!

I remember the days of Kenny Dalglish too (at Liverpool anyway)- I knew John Barnes as a liverpool player before I had even heard of Watford, my dad used to make us watch Liverpool on tv with him!!!!!!

He only started supporting them because of an FA cup final, 1965 against leeds, he thought he'd be different from his mates and support Liverpool and they won so he supported them ever since. He has scrap books going back years with each game, score, scorers, attendance all written out then news paper clippings. Probably about 25 years worth, all in red folders. Sad really!!!

so many people in their mid to late 20's support Liverpool. I remember at school eveyone running around thinking they were Ian Rush whilst i would say i was Nigel Gibbs (who even went to the same school as us though 15 years apart!)

I also have a soft spot for them as two of fmy avourite players when younger were Barnes and James, who both ended up there.

I have seem a few videos of Souness and he looked the complete midfield player. I would like to havr seen him play in the same era as Roy Keane and see him teach him a lesson or two.
