I gently disagree, not blinded I think, my specs are firmly still in place. Ivic unfortunately misjudged the culture of English football in its entirety and came and then left remaining a simple one-dimensional disciplinarian throughout his justifiably short tenure. I would say that Gino realised that mistake pretty quickly and held on to him longer than he normally would. Ivic forever distanced himself from the players and this came across in his rambling interviews, so didn't attempt to gain any team spirit with results achieved despite his efforts. Whatever this forum's view on Troy Deeney more generally, he has explained Ivic's bizarre handling of him particularly around the Huddersfield game which was the last straw for the Club not just the players I'd suggest. November's Manager of the Month had to go. Ranieri is a far more nuanced coach. He'll build that spirit - especially in his public utterances - as he knows that the squad is deficient and he needs to squeeze out points from them and can't rely on a grand turnaround after the Jan transfer window and AFCON. I would imagine that harsh words and a complete reset on behaviours and attitude have been a key element this week and not just fitness and tactics from Claudio. He has the reputation, experience and, as the new coach, can set that different tone and rules. Might not yield immediate results but I'd far rather have that much greater hope of this campaign with him in charge. Xisco was just as one-dimensional as Ivic but totally the other way which suited the easier Championship and the squad we had. Like others, I would have been prepared to accept ditching Xisco in the summer, living with the moans and groans of the usual suspects (Lineker, Shearer, Danny M, Jermaine J etc etc etc) knowing that the squad overhaul needed a coaching overhaul too. We came into this season undercooked as a result. I don't think the 'Club' always favours players over the manager/coach and Gino knows that Claudio cannot be ditched as easily as our last 2 coaches. I'm acutely aware that if the Watford Corner Flag re-appears in the next 2 months, I'll have to take it on the chin that this posting hasn't aged well!!
Sarr back in his natural position. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...anieri-will-move-ismaila-sarr-watfords-right/
Yes, not a lot of point in attempting to 'judge' what they wrote & recorded through the filter of the subsequent 60 years of development within 'popular' music. Most of which development would probably not have happened if the Beatles had not dismembered the cosy set up of song-writers giving (safe, pappy) songs to producers to get the current 'happening act' to record until that act had stopped 'happening' at which point they found some other 'artist' to foist the songs onto. George Martin tried to get them to release 'How Do You Do It' before he gave it to Gerry & The Pacemakers, but, although they did record a modified version of it, the Beatles held out until Martin agreed to issue as single A-sides only songs written by the group. The success the Beatles had with their own compositions allowed other groups (Stones, Who, Kinks etc) the leeway with their record companies to release songs they'd written. And for all the 'poppiness' to current ears of their early hits, at the time they were not viewed that way at all...even the 'yeah, yeah, yeah' refrains causing much controversy. Remember, the milieu in which they were working was one where British 'rocker' Cliff Richard was scoring major success with such songs as 'Summer Holiday'! And more to the point was the speed with which they moved away from that more 'poppy' sound introducing real innovations; eg, the guitar feedback at the start of 'I Feel Fine'. They're nowhere near my favourite band, but it would be wrong to downplay just how they influential they are.
This is true to a certain extent - it depends how far back your memory goes. They have certainly under-performed for the last few years but, over time they have flashed up and down the divisions, even twice making the top flight, and have been at second tier level much more than Bradford have. That's pretty good for the smaller team in a two-club city.
God bless forums. Come to see what the vibe is about all Evertons injuries, has anyone translated that Bachman interview to see what he's cross about (crosses I imagine!). And here we have a good discussion on the beetles and a graph about Notts County (home of that Wayne Andrews last gasp winner that we, er, all remember so fondly). Anyway - 4-0 Everton yes?
I'm aware of their history, and yes it is better than Bradford's, but I still feel they ought to be doing much better than they have done in the last 25+ years, especially when you consider the clubs that have overtaken them in that time (Hull, Cardiff, Brighton, Swansea, Brentford, even after discounting Wigan and Bournemouth who have had a lot of money behind their rises up the divisions). Not even a play-off place in the third tier in the last 25 years and mostly bottom half finishes even in the fourth is a poor showing indeed. It seems there is potential there, but it is continually squandered by poor management on and off the pitch and progress is hindered by a culture of failure.
I took Notts Co back to the peak of Europe in Football Manager 21. Incidentally beat kit-copying Juventus in the CL Final. Completed it mate.
No idea but someone did state an interesting fact which was that we have never won at Everton or Bradford. Kind of makes me chuckle to myself when I think that an Everton fan may come on here and have butchers to get some insight and there are more people discussing Notts County, Bradford City and the Beetles than the actual match in the matchday thread.
Yet more good injury news for tomorrow. https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/10/...-bad-news-for-everton-ahead-of-watford-clash/ Yerry Mina out (hamstring) and I read that Ben Godfrey is still suffering with Covid after effects. So, it looks like Richarlison will be captaining the Everton U18s against us tomorrow. Easy bounce back game for SW Herts' finest. Toffees 1 - Hornets 0
Well said! Second most influential after Elvis, whose music I hated but which opened the way of the British adoption and development of black music.
Be careful who you criticising there. Cathcart is in my top two of the best Craig based centre backs to play for Watford in the Pozzo era.
We will not score. Anything from 1 to 10 for the opposition. We will concede 10 or more to a Premier league side during this relegation season.
Wouldn't agree with the results not being good enough, we were bang there in a playoff spot before the 'downed tools' match with plenty of games to go. The football may not have always been pretty but imo if the players were on board with the style and team selections (Deeney wasn't a regular starter under Xisco anyway and Xisco had the privilege of having some of the injured players back) then we had every chance to get promoted.
Plus Ranieri might not be here that long if we put in another 3/4 performances anywhere like last week.. Obviously hope we don’t and personally feel he has to be given time and a chance otherwise we’ll be having 5/6 managers this season as we will lose a lot of games regardless of who is in charge as the squad for now isn’t good enough . And with Bachmann throwing his toys out of the pram threatening to leave they will probably be more bothered by that . You are right - we’ve had players get away with much worse .
This'll be the first game I've missed all season, so bet the farm on us winning a high scoring classic
I think most of us are looking for something to get hopeful about rather than a result. Which is a massive shame, because Everton are meh and over the years we should have beaten them once or twice more.
In '88-'92 when I was there the landlord was a caricature of the archetypal scouser (great big FO perm but he didn't wear a 'shelly'). But he did have the most amazing drinker's conk - a bloody grate thing in the middle of his face that looked like it had been made from silly putty (the colour and shiny appearance). As for his reputation of selling a 'good pint' - nowhere I ever went to in the 'Pool sold a 'bad' pint.
Currently debating whether to waste half the day watching this crap or go to the cinema instead. Bloody love football me.
