we would be very glad if watford will sign raio, because his performance against england (especially against crouch) was ruined due to a yellow card in croatia match, but raio said that being in a spectator role in estonia-england game has been given him an even more and more extra power to show for scouts his necessity for english teams. he was also man of the match in the last match against rosenborg! So, you will be lucky if your manager wants to sign him!!! raio piiroaja = a real football workaholic, because he practises after team trainings alone with hours! very-very determined player in fredrikstad!!

They're all just some Estonian fans who came on this board right after Poom signed up.

Anyway, Raijo Piiroja played yet another good match yesterday even though Fredrikstad lost. He also scored a goal.

If our scouts have been following him for the last 3-4 matches they have probably been very impressed. I expect us to make a move for him when the Norwegian transfer window opens next week but he won't be cheap.

How much roughly would he cost

  9. hartvix

I'd say about £2M. That's usually what a top flight club in Norway would want for their best player, and Piiroja is contracted for another 2 and a half years, so they don't need to sell him.

Hmmm maybe it would be better going for someone like Leon Barnett for cheaper

Personally, I wouldn't think Fredrikstad will ask more than £1M for Piiroja.

Well if that happens we should count ourselves very lucky, because Odd Grenland rejected an offer of £1.25M for Per Nilsson last season (similar situation, Nilsson is a center back and by far the best player in the club) and Wigan had to part with £2.5M to get Paul Scharner from Brann.

Does it look more likely were going to sign Raio now?

    He's cheaper for a reason.

    For example:

    He's crap,
    He's not very good,
    He has no technique
    He's a scummer

    Piiroja to Sunderland?

  18. nak108

Hey could you please traslate this?

    Esikohal ikka Watford

Erinevad Inglismaa ja seejärel ka Norra meediaväljaanded teadsid eile kuulutada, et Sunderlandi ja Piiroja leping on lähedal. Oletati, et Premier League’i naasnud Põhja-Inglismaa klubi maksab Fredrikstadile eestlase eest 1,5 miljonit naelsterlingit (ligi 35 miljonit krooni).

Piiroja on Mart Poomi endise t**andjaga seostatud sel suvel varemgi. Sunderland Echo jalgpallivaatleja Ian Laws lausus eile SL Õhtulehele, et peatreener Roy Keane *ritab tõepoolest osta *ht või kaht keskkaitsjat, kuid Piiroja värbamisest ei teadnud ta midagi.

Läinud nädalavahetusel liikus Norra ajakirjanduses ka jutt teise kõrgliigameeskonna Portsmouthi huvist. Kuid kinnitamata andmetel on hetkeseisuga endiselt Piiroja tõenäolisim kosija esiliigasse kuuluv Watford.

Et Inglismaal leiba teenivate jalgpallurite mõnenädalane puhkus langeb kokku just jaanipäevaga, pole suvise p**ripäeva kodumaal veetmine Poomi jaoks reegel. "Kohaga on nii, et kuidas kunagi juhtub."

Reede õhtul perega Hispaanias veedetud puhkuselt naasnud Poomi peolaud oli aga s**gipoolise koha pealt ehteestlaslik ehk grilliti liha ja võeti salatit kõrvale. "Õlut ei joonud, jõime kalja!" Pudel punast veini olnud siiski kah laual.

    Thanks,
    nak108

First of all, these 2 articles are not very new, about 2 weeks old ;) but.. anyway.i try to sum up the first one. it says that different estonian and british media sites confirmed that sunderland has signed piiroja for 1,5M and sunderland's echo (what is that:D?) observer Ian Laws claimed that sunderlands manager roy keane are going to make an offer for 1 or 2 central defenders, but signing piiroja is not certain at all. moreover, norwegian media announced about portsmouth interest for piiroja, but piiroja himself wants to play in watford with his national team-mate mart poom!

The second is not very interesting.. it gives a short overview about mart poom and his family traditions celebrating estonian traditional festival, called jaanipäev ;) Poom didnt drink any alcohol on this day, differentially from other estonians and he celebrated this day in estonia, at his mother's cottage in laulasmaa!

Do we still want to sign Pirroja?

I have a feeling that Aidy is keeping an eye on Piiroja just in case we receive a "ridiculous" offer for Shittu.

To be honest, another center back is not the most important for us now since we have Shittu, Carlisle, DeMerit and Jackson (and backups: Doyley, Mariappa, Avinel).

anyway.. watford is not going to sign piiroja. it's quite 90% sure now.. but piioja's agent says that there are still some british clubs who keep an eye on piiroja!

but there are a little video about piiroja.. last season nowegian cup final where he scored twice! but i really hope he will find him a premierleague or championship club.. he deserves it!

He signed a new four-year contract with Fredrikstad two weeks ago, so I doubt they'll be willing to sell him.

SL Õhtuleht says that Raio Piiroja is going to England and will have a trial period with some London club. Piiroja confirmed that he is going to London, but refused to say the name of the club. He also said that he made an agreement with Fredrikstad and Fredrikstad will let him go if the fees match. He also mentioned that he isn't in very good form as the season in Norway ended about three weeks ago. The possible candidates as the club is in London:
    1. Charlton Athletic
    2. Crystal Palace
    3. Queens Park Rangers
    4. Watford

He will arrive to London coming tuesday. During the summer several clubs were interested in him including Portsmouth and Sunderland.

EDIT: The club turned out to be QPR. There won't be no deal as QPR asked Piiroja to come one week later, but it didn't suit to Piiroja.

Well unless we have someone else lined up, it's a shame that we are not the ones in for him (maybe we could at least offer him a trial while he is over here?) as I thought he looked good when he played against England....That said Lincoln City could look good against England at the moment!!
