I didn't see the game today (most qualifiers are a waste of time anyway) but what are people's thoughts regarding why England are struggling to score (just 1 goal by Rooney at Holland in their last five games)? Is it down to a genuine striker shortage, the midfield not performing (like with Gerrard and Lampard's incompatability), or just the manager/tactics being plain crap?

I honestly think like us with King England are missing Owen, if and when he returns to full fitness he should add pace and dynamism to the team which has been sorely lacking of late.

Injuries aside, Israel, Macedonia, Croatia are all teams who do no have the luxury of the players that England have available. Our 3rd and 4th choices in any position would walk into most national sides, yet we get an injury or two and then use that as an excuse to perform execrably.IMHO the problems are twofold. Firstly, we have a national coach whose reputation amongst even his own former players is pathetic and secondly, we have a national crisis of mentatlity. There is no genuine belief of success, just hyperbolic posturing by the media once we actually scrape into tournaments. Our players are mostly all used to winning week in week out for their clubs, but once they pull on the national shirt, they become timid and more afraid of failiure than anticipating success.

More interestingly, can anyone think of a single person (English, not Scottish -Birdy) who supported McIdiot's appointment in the first place, let alone anyone who does not think he needs to be sacked immediately?

the similarities between watford and england are quite high at the moment, lack of a clear striking partnership, central midfielders who cannot play together but promising wingers, good keeper and a decent central defence partnership albeit weak on the sides!

and the ability to disasterously be unable to kill off games when we have gone ahead and are on the front foot!

    just a thought!

Hey, on the upside, good wins for Ireland and Scotland. Congrats to them both. I just can't wait for the slatings if Scotland manage to make it thru a group with Italy and France, whilst we can't see off Israel, Croatia and Macedonia.

we should give him a testimonial just for the amount of good work he has done for us over the last two seasons!
