Out of the frame at Man City, rejected moves to Cardiff/Leicester ... worth a punt ???

Doesn't want to go to the Championship. Might be worth looking at if we go up as a replacement for Hendo.

Didn't he join City for free from some Qatar outfit? If so, he must be on at least 50k min, no wonder he doesn't want to go down a level!

Always seemed to be a big target man to me who could not hit a barn door with a banjo, infact similar to doris...

    True...same as Nugent...greedy buggers!

It's a tricky one! For all we know the Ellington and John partnership may click very well over the next two games (providing that is the front pairing)...if it goes badly, then we're too late to get in any loan signings! Annoying!

I'd rather see a midfielder come in on loan..we could have Henry upfront, but we still wouldn't be able to give him any decent service from midfield!!

In a loan deal Man City would probably be wanting to recoup a portion of his wages (plus a bonus on promotion).

Certainly have a point there, agreed should have a look, even if it is for just 2 months

When is the loan deadline? Am I correct in thinking it is the 31st of March?

Why if he's refused to move to the Championship would he come on loan to a Championship club?

Because we may not be a Championship club for much longer.

because he would not have to be here permanently

So he's apparently turned down a loan move to Leicester - cos that's all LCFC were asking for according to most football news sites - yet he'll come here?

Well in my opinion our current 'partnership' could no get any worse. So long as they both turn up and have one shot each on target during the 90 minutes they will already have surpassed what we have achieved recently.

Midfield is definitely more important, and with Williams not making a surprising, all conquering return unless something dramatic changes we will still have no bite in attack in the centre of the park.

Face it. We won't bring in anyone. Realistically I don't think Boothroyd wants to go up

They say actions speak louder than words and our actions of late have not been of a club trying to get out of a division which has never been easier.

Regarding Mpenza, we were linked with him before City signed him albeit tabloid stories with no other substance. I don't know where figures of 50k wages are coming from. Does anyone have any reason to suspect he's on so much, or are people just putting 2 and 2 together to come up with 50k, based on the fact he played in Qatar and was a freebie?

Just because he turned down one Champ club, don't mean he won't sign on loan for another if he wants games. Still, I've not seen anything from him in the couple of times I've seen him play which would have me excited.

So Bristol City, Stoke, West Brom, and Charlton don't want to go up either....?

Or it's never been more even and therefore difficult? It's just a perspective thing moog. Since we were last in this division a lot of the mid-table teams have progressed into play-off contenders. The whole division is void of any one super team. I'll grant you that it's been a very frustrating season but to say the division is easy is just plain silly.

Is it Boothroyd or is it the players? Get promotion and half of them will be out of the side looking for another team and having to move houses and families. Stay in this league and they can stay settled collecting the same old salary.

I am aware that this is utter madness but it does make the mind wander sometimes. I wouldnt want to work my socks off and give everything i had to make my place of work fantastic if i knew i was going to be left in the lurch because i wasnt good enough to step up to the next level and keep the business there.

That's an interesting perspective. I suppose that approach is self-defeating in the end as the club will always be seeking promotion and eventually the players who haven't been quite good enough to achieve it, for whatever reasons, would be shipped out too and replaced by players eager for promotion and lacking a sense of their own limitations.

Just off topic for a min.

Isnt it refreshing to see some thought provoking posts on the boards today?! Its a pleasant change to the usual bickering that i tend to see on here and feel no need to add anything to the debate.

    Anyway, back to topic now.

    Carry on.

You're quite right in what you say about half of the team (is that all??) not being good enough should we go up. But I'm sure many players, especially those with one or two years left on their contracts, are quite mercenary in their thinking. They will know they will be only bit-part players next year, but why should they worry? Their wages will go up, they will have the kudos of being a part of a premiership team, and they won't have to leave unless they want to go.

And after 12 months what do you know - the club are back in the championship, the "top" players bought to replace them have all jumped ship, and these "championship" players are ideally suited for another crack at promotion.

And if, during our premiership year they do feel obliged to move on for regular first team action, there will be no shortage of championship teams, eager to reach "the promised land", that will see them as seasoned "been there, done it, winner" type footballers who can carry their team to the premiership.

In my view the players will bust a gut for promotion - oh, apart from Nathan, whose only liklehood of busting a gut is if he strains too hard on the bog!

I retract my earlier comments. They were silly. Sorry.

I think it is more a case of us, WB, BC, Stoke etc bottling it than not wanting it. I do think, UAE, that it would not have taken a massive improvement in our performances to have seen us well clear by now. How many opportunities to win have we spurned? Enough to go into double figures of dropped points, which would see us chilling champagne already. I think the standard is low this year and we could have profited from that. As it is, we will have to go into the final straight with the pack and hope that we emerge in the top two. If we don't it will be a big opportunity wasted.
