Fans saying we should have an Elton song as a club anthem to sing . I know we tried to replace Z-cars before but that didn’t work out too well .
I know, we just have to embrace some Yorkie love until we give them a proper Elland Road tonking (again) this season!!
A lot of his songs are too slow to use as football anthems, and I don't think 'Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting', 'Crocodile Rock' or a song of that ilk would fit either. Walking out to 'I'm Still Standing' felt very forced and awkward, and was quickly shelved. We'd be better off having no anthem than an ill-fitting one in my opinion.
A club anthem doesn't have to be the walkout song, it should be something the fans sing organically not something forced on us. As someone else said, I'm Still Standing was rubbish as a walkout song.
Yes think that is the suggestion . https://twitter.com/androofrench/status/1673097292662943744 Of course when it comes to reality how many would actually sing ?!
If it's done as a chant, then the tempo can be changed - most chants are quicker (and out of tune) compared to the original. But agreed, if it's played over the speakers it'll be slow and nobody would join Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
Play the start of ‘Your Song’ over the PA, then cut the music and let the crowd sing “And you can tell everybody, this is your song……..” etc ie the words on the stand. I think that could be spine tingling.
Or we could just go with the general feel of the fan base towards the club over the last five years. "I guess that's why they call it the blues...."
That’s always the best course of action if you are unfortunate enough to find yourself with a mouthful of prawn sandwich.
Slight difference between 125,000 belting it out at Glasto and 4,358 fans singing it on a wet Tuesday night vs Walsall
He will have a bit of time on his hands once the tour finishes .... sure he could knock something uplifting and anthemic up just for us
Watford were well represented at Glastonbury yesterday, including by myself and a nice couple both wearing Watford shirts about 10 feet away from us in the crowd, who took some nice pictures of our group for us. Elton was probably busier than the Rolling Stones crowd and it’s the first time they’ve ever made a PA announcement beforehand to tell people to stand up, to make space so more people can actually get into the field. He did us proud.
Z cars as they walk out. Then play Rocketman in lead up to kick off with the fans singing the last part.
Watched in on the box, he was incredible. The crowd size was also astonishing - saw plenty of Watford shirts! Although i’d hate to be at the front needing the loo, especially with my weak bladder
"Are you ready, Are you ready for love" would be a better anthem ......with the word "love" changed to something else ....score, fight, sing, pee, ??
I agree we keep Z cars to come out to. We have unsuccessfully tried to change that for a while There must be one of his songs with at least a few catchy upbeat lines we can sing though probably as part of the warm up/kick off. Doesnt have to be watford related Why dont we try im still standing
As long as everyone sits down when we sing it. Don't want any of those annoying standers blocking my view.
Your Song would be my pick of the bunch, but it would be monumental if Elton could make another song, just for us. That would be sensational.
Your Song seems to be the favoured option but it would be terrible, it's far too long for a football anthem and the lyrics make no sense in relation to the club. Are we really going to have 10,000 people mumbling about people making potions in a travelling show? Should probably accept that great though Elton is, there just isn't a song that immediately works - if there had been, would've happened ages ago organically. Seems to be 'we need an Elton song as an anthem, let's scratch around trying to find the least worst fit' rather than 'that's a belting song which would also work really well as a club anthem'.
I'm not 100% sure how it works, but presumably we'd just sing a small section, right? Do most anthems have much to do with the club who sings it? Delilah at Stoke, for example. I think if we're ever going to have one, it'll be Your Song. Of any song, it's probably the one most synonymous with us as a club. Arguably Elton's biggest song, and it's lyrics are already written in the stadium!
If we did change it, you just know Everton will do it as well to the same one, so that they can continue to emulate us. Not trying to make this sound too grim, but if you did have an accident you could probably cover by saying "it's cool, it's all yellow as yawnmongers once sung."
Guess it depends on what people mean by an anthem. If we just sing the chorus then it's just a regular terrace song to me (albeit would sound weird to launch into that without the verses as the chrous is a direct response to the verses). Now this is an anthem... written by huge fans, lyrics make sense for fans to sing about their club and title refers to the area where most of the fans are from.
Come home EJ. Great set from GNR despite Axl's voice past it and The War on Drugs. Dave Grohl, Duff McKagan and Slash......
Spine-tingling for a promotion showdown, an FA Cup quarter-final or a massive Premier League survival game. Less spine-tingling for Preston at home on a Tuesday night in January.
