Doyley set to end his long association with Watford? hackneygazette.sport@archant.co.uk 27 March 2008 WATFORD FC boss Adrian Boothroyd was once adamant that Hackney raised and educated full-back Lloyd Doyley would not be leaving Vicarage Road. Doyley, brought up in Stamford Hill, has been associated with Watford since he was 11-years-old, when he spotted playing for the Hackney Primary Schools side, while at Grazebrook Primary School, Stoke Newington. But in recent weeks, Doyley, now 25, has lost his place at right-back in Watford's line-up with American defender Jay De Meritt recovering fitness and replacing him. It was believed that around new year, the Championship's moneybags club Queens Park Rangers were lining up a £500,000 bid for the out-of-favour Doyley. He won his place in the side, but has since lost it amid speculation that promotion-chasing Watford, currently third in the Championship will now release him at the end of the current season.
Doyley is a legend and I'd be sad to see him go, but he won't be good enough should we go up. Having said that, the article above seems to suggest we might release him on a free? B*llocks to that! We can certainly get a bit of cash out of him!
Lets concentrate on getting promoted before we worry about not needing Lloyd in the Premier. He is a good defender, and if we are in this league next season we will need him.
Should have sold imo, especially with Bromby arriving. We wont release him on a free, but I think he'll be one of the ones to leave when we re-build next season - what ever division that may be in. West Brom may yet prove not getting promotion at the first attempt isn't a disaster. Hopefully we can sell to buy, not just sell to survive. I imagine our finances could be better than Sheffield United and Charlton - they must have expected promotion this season (i believe on paper their squads were as strong as ours)
Sad to see him go but there is no point keeping him. I'm sure he will want to play regular football too.
Doyley isn't good enough whatever division we're in. Expect him to be in the team next Saturday :dismay:
Haha! He or Aidy M will be right back with Shittu upfront with John. It's almost laughable but its so predicatable that those two will be our attack for next Sat
A really bad weekend footy wise but this one cheered me up no end. Taxi for Doyley. About time. :]]:]]
We should still get a fee for him. Maybe we should try to mug somebody like West Brom did to us with Ellington. Get about 750k or something totally over the odds.
If there is any truth in the figure quoted, bite their hands off. We have options enough at right back (though could probably still do with a really good RB specialist) but Doyley will not improve us in that position. Good luck to him if he will get 1st team footie.
Lloyd must not be allowed to leave. He is the last remainder of what football should be at this club. At all costs he must end as a one-club man. And then there's the fact that he's our best right back. If we want to get rid of one tell Bromby to **** off.
keep him every team needs a player that has been there for years he needs a testomonial agreed 100% i might be a bit biased
I wouldn't say that is "totally over the odds", even £1m would not be that unreasonable for a big League 1 club like Leeds or Forest should they stay down. And no I'm not biased...
Don't worry Doyley won't leave. He IS Watford. Doyley = Gibbs = Legend. Except Gibbs was better. But that doesn't matter. Doyley will be here until he is grey and withered.
Lloyd leaving without scoring a goal for Watford would be absolutely tragic. Altho I am a big fan of his, I do accept that he is not the most technically gifted player but i still wouldnt want to see him go. Call me deluded, and I probably am, but I think every club should have some form of longevity in there somewhere...
