Watford face competition from Leicester, Cardiff and Charlton for £2m-rated Birmingham striker DJ Campbell, according to reports.
Hornets forward Hameur Bouazza has been linked with a move away from Vicarage Road in order to stay in the Premiership so boss Adie Boothroyd could be looking to land Campbell as a straight replacement.
However, the Foxes could follow up their £750,000 capture of Stephen Clemence with a second raid on St Andrews for the player who has not been guaranteed a regular shirt next season.

Blues boss Steve Bruce rates the 25-year-old in the region of £2million-£2.5million and would be willing to offload him to generate cash for his own forays into the transfer market before the start of the new Premiership season.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wonder if he will be seen as a winger (Bouazza type replacement) and in addition to (fingers crossed Helgusson) or instead of HH?

Cant see it, dont think we need another striker unless hes significantly better than we have, which i dont think campbell is. And he would be a makeshift winger.

Also at £2 million hes over valued

Well aidy said about a striker that would exite some fans so maybe he thinks campbell would, if we didn't get HH i wouldn't say no to him. Would rather we were looking at bringing in a centre mid and full backs though than all this striker and winger stuff.

Agree - he wouldn`t excite me, as I don`t rate him as good as Hendo.

    c/p
He hit the back of the net 12 times in 28 games for Brentford, including a brace in a 2-1 FA Cup victory over Sunderland that brought him to the attention of Steve Bruce.

His first competitive goal for Blues came in a 2-1 victory over Colchester United in August 2006.

Despite making only 20 starts during his first full season at St. Andrew's, DJ scored an impressive 12 goals to play his part in the successful promotion bid.

I am not a great fan of his at all, reminds me of a poor man's
Andy Cole, needing a fair few chances to score. I saw him a few times for Stevenage and even though he was fairly young at the time and has obviosly improved greatly, he was only seen as a squad player who was used as an impact substitute. I think he is still living on the great cup run with Brentford a few seasons ago, then again he still scores a fair few goals!

Leicester may well be dark horses this year - always rated Martin Allen & theyve been very active in the market

They've made some very good signings and the atmosphere around the club is fantastic since Milan bought the club, they will be in the Prem again in two years at the latest IMO.

I tend to agree, I think Leicester will be there or there abouts when it comes to promotion this season.

As to DJ coming to us, he might prove a good signing, but I'm not too sure?

The full back part I totally agree with and also wouldn't mind a new centre back, but central midfielder? We have Mahon, Bangura, Rinaldi, Williamson, (all available) with Francis and Williams to return from injury, how many do we need competing for 2 places?

A lad i go to football with would definitely love to see this move happen and see this boy score goals at Watford!

He knows him as DJ used to work alongside him at DHL, and said he is genuinely a very nice bloke.

Unless you are talking pre-school, we have more than enough youth in the team.

yes i know, but striker wise, only moses, and if he gets injured atleast we got another fast nippy little striker. King is fast but hes not the kind of nippy/poacher striker:whoosh:

I still feel that another striker is the last thing we need at present HH excepted because his return would certainly see both Henderson and Kabba off to pastures new.
In Priskin I reckon we have a real diamond for the future and given the starts he WILL score a load of goals, with Moses and Hoskins in the wings to develop and boozer and Marlon where the hell is the need for DJ.
We don't need to sign him because he's a nice bloke!!!

Birmingham's DJ favours Watford over Leicester
    tribalfooball.com - July 18, 2007

Birmingham City striker DJ Campbell is set to reject Leicester and join Watford.

The Hornets will meet Birmingham's £2million asking price for Campbell and want to tie up a deal in the next 24 hours.

Campbell has turned his back on Leicester as he wants to move back down south after being told he can leave St Andrew's by Blues boss Steve Bruce.

Not a brilliant source, but if true he might prove to be a useful addition, there again he might not :-\ :-\ :-\

I think Campbell might be a bit of a "gamble"

DJ Cambell adds nothing to what we already have than a bigger wage bill. No thank you!
Not exactly the "striker to get the fans excited" that we were promised is he?

this could well be true as i have been told by my barber, who is friends with a mate of dj's that he is considering a move to one of two clubs - my barber was very confident that he would be signing for us - i told him to tell his mate to tell dj not to bother signing for us we are shyte and going no where. He mentioned to me weeks ago about dj but i took no notice. can't see him setting the Vic alight and as mentioned above doesn't offer anything we haven't already got. If he was anywhere near good enough Brum would keep him as a squad player and let him fight for a place.

HH is our best option and IMO our only option. DJ dosh could very easily be a waste.

DJ Campbell is locked in talks with Watford, skysports.com can confirm.

Birmingham are seemingly ready to let Campbell depart with Garry O'Connor and Daniel de Ridder having arrived at St Andrews this summer, and Mido set to follow.

Leicester also lodged a bid earlier this week, but Watford too have now joined the chase for his signature.

Campbell is now having talks with both clubs and is considering his options.

Campbell joined Birmingham in January 2006, but has found his first-team chances limited under Steve Bruce - starting just 19 league games.

Meanwhile, Birmingham have allowed young defender Sam Oji to join Southend on trial.

The 21-year-old, who has one year left on his current deal at City, will spend the next month at Roots Hall.

No No No - Not Good :(

Birmingham striker DJ Campbell is set to snub Leicester and move to Watford in a £2million deal C & P frm the sun

Also stories on this on sky sports website, tribal football ect all saying the same. What does this mean for hh return. If we sign campbell, that youngster from cork, will HH be the 3rd new striker brought in, i dont think so!, unless we get rid of some strikers,as we will have far too many!!

Noooo please dont sign dj or the cork kid, because then we might not be able to sign HH:rant:

O.k.................... Eveyone seems to be flappiong about the prospect of buying DJ Campell?

    How do we know that....

    a) It is at the Expense of HH, he may be coming in addition, they are 2 totally different players who IMO will both get us goals. H is physical and strong, will hold the ball up and get goals (aerial threat too) Campbell is quick skillful and will score different types of goals. Between the 2 of em (and King) weve got the lot!

    B) That HH even want's to come back, it may be a deal that is dead in the water anyway so Aidy is looking at other options?

I think we need to trust Aidy on this one, he knows what is best for the team but more importantly he know the bigger picture as opposed to the snippets and rumours that we are going on!

IMO the ideal scenario would be to bring in DJ and HH and offload Hendo and Kabba.

That may even be the plan.

Even though I would prefer HH (if it is a choice betwen the 2) don't underestimate what a big player DJ could be for us.

He scored 9 goals in 15 starts in the Championship last season, as well as 3 goals in 5 starts in cup competitions (including 2 against Newcastle)- not too shabby really.

I haven't really seen him play that much though tbh and I would rather we signed HH.

Is he fast? If so then I guess he could come in useful as Marlon isn't tremendously quick, our only other potentially nippy strikers are the suspect Kabba and Hoskins and we already have big targetmen in HH and possibly Priskin.

However, I'd be absolutely gutted if HH ended up going to another Championship club instead of us.
