Left out of both Celtic's opening game and a strong reserve trip to Ireland for frendlies. Worth a punt?
I think he is a great player. I live in Scotland and have seen him many times and he makes defences look stupid, he is very quick and a good eye for goal but just hasnt been given a proper chance.
Also very gd at free kicks! He would be a great player to get on loan and they maybe a perm deal if he plays well for us! I think I saw sheff weds were after him on loan!
I see on BBC text Weds are after him, as well. I have not see anythiing of him but he must have been pretty good for Celtic to pay a fair bit for him a season or so ago.
True. It was the "worth a punt" wording which made it Nakworthy. Nak has a template which looks like this: Insert Random footballer's name here (regardless of age, ability, likely wages, living or dead)__________________ Worth a punt?
ah the joys of his ridiculous suggstions not heard of this guy but he looks alright on football manager lol
I think we've enough players marked "potential" I know, Ive had a ridiculously good ides How about we sign a PROVEN and genuine quality player? Ok he might cost us £5million but why not? ? ? ? ? (silence) Oh ok then, stupid idea I know... back to scouring the Eircom league it is then looking for yet anither bargain.
You really don't get it do you. PROVEN players? How long have you been a watford fan? It's not our way. Our way is to buy gambles, fight hard and come close.
Apparently Celtic are only after 1 mill! http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_2643627,00.html
Another good thing about buying Riordan is that he is mroe than happy to drop into left wing if you asked him to.
A very valid piont it is a major put off, but we have Williams so Aidy doesnt have a problem with that sort entering the team
No reason for us not to enquire about his availability and whether he would be interested. The worst that can happen is he says no.
25 years. "Our way is to buy gambles, fight hard and come close" That is probably one of the most pathetic responses I have ever seen We've never had £15million in the bank ready to spend on players. Your little Watford mentality is what will destroy Aidy's vision for 2010 McAnuff wasnt a gamble.... an excellent start IMO... we just need a couple more like him!
As for Riordan i don't think it's a silly suggestion as people are making out, especially as no prem clubs have been linked with him whilst if the asking price of £1M is true if i were Aidy i'd drive to glasgow myself with a boot load of cash (£1M) and drag him down here. A very good player. Weather he'd be interested in joining us or not i'm not sure.
I live in Scotland and most of my mates are Celtic fans and many have told me that he said he would rather be playing 1st team footy at any club than be sitting on the bench at Celtic any longer and is in talks with Sheff Wed so no reason why he wouldnt come to us.
Oh just a little bit ;o) @KJ: I would love some top notch signings but I don't want to pay silly money in fees or wages. I don't want Watford to commit to 25k/week for any one player unless our operating budget can sustain that. Sure we may have some money in the bank, but our operations on a daily basis only allows for smaller wages. We simply do not make a big enough profit. If we bring in players and pay loads in wages - at one point, the money will be gone and we'll be back to square 1. If, on the other hand, we invest in players with potential but who do not require huge wages, we can invest money in business development, investments which will increase our operating profits and thereby increase the amount we can pay in wages in future seasons. Spending the parachute payments and AshCash on big name players costing shedloads may get us promoted. But then again, it may not. And if we fail, we'll be back to being cash strapped little Watford of yesteryear. On the other side, if we invest in our academy (as we have), in scouting (as we have - apparently), in talent with potential (Hoskins, Ashekodi, Avinel etc.), in our infrastructure (both physical and IT - which we have) and in the club organisation as a whole (which we have) - we'll be building for future success meaning that when we go back up, we're better prepared across the board. I want short term success now, but I'd give that up in a second for long term stability and success.
