Calmed down now watched the highlights on sky (again) and think end of the day 2-2 was a fair and just result , quite an achievement as the ref had an absolute shocker (last night I thought he was on the take ,he was so chummy with the derby players and arrogant towards ours). On reflection the only thing he did with consistently was get the wrong decision . I thought the pen was stonewall the correct call would have been a yellow card not red . Although there was another instance where a red was deserving and he thankfully missed it. The team put in a real fighting shift last night really proud of their spirit and togetherness (Slav takes great credit here) . Our fans came over really well and for large part of game outsang the home faithful. A lot of positives to be taken from that game my only concern is we have enough in the tank for Mondays game. Its fantastic to see a watford side with steel, grit determination and quality! Long may it continue.
I dont know why people are contesting the red card, its undefendable. Motta stupidly dived in when russellwas having a touch before shooting, last man red card all day. If it was up the other end and their cb didnt get a red card for that tackle youd be in fits saying how **** the refs are again.
Last man? A phrase used by pundits and totally meaningless. There's no such rule in football. Here's what it actually says: So to my mind we have Russell 15 yards out, with very little chance of keeping control of the ball and the ball heading away from goal due to his heavy touch. Motta was the last defender which is part of the 4th consideration but that's one of several. Just because he was the 'last man' doesn't mean it's automatically a red card. So no, I wouldn't have been expecting a red card if it had been the other way around.
You can see why it was given. On replay, and as a Watford fan, you could also debate the point that it didn't stop a clear goal scoring opportunity. Hopefully the lessons learnt will be not to foolishly conceed possession where we did, so close to the break, and for our defenders to stay on their feet rather than lunging in. None of us will ever know what would have happened had the red card not been given. Derby would still have come at us strongly 2nd half had it been 11 v 11. So it's useless saying 'it cost us a certain victory' etc. What we do know is we fought back really well from adversity. That's 11 points earned this season when we've been a man short. That's amazing....and that character and never-say-die attitude is why I still believe we'll go up, be it this season or next.
This is it-we did not have it under Zola and came up short. There is much more to this side now-when we go behind or have a poor decision we have it in is to bounce back. What have we got to lose by appealing the red card-can they increase it if it seems to be been a "try on" and is dismissed ?-did I read it has to be appealed by 11 am today
It was kind of similar to Angella's at Bmouth where our successful appeal was based on the premise that the player's touch was poor and had taken the ball too far in front of him for it be a goalscoring opportunity?
"Moves are afoot to rename Derby's stadium to the iProlapse, such is the extent of their fallout." http://fansonline.net/middlesbrough/mb/view.php?id=4367440 :sign15:
Pretty sure there was something wrong with Ince Snr's face as well. Perhaps the face has finally given way to the weight of the inflated head?
Would have taken a draw before the game but to get a draw in the manner we did lastnight was magnificent. A brilliant battling performance and our second goal was a thing of beauty.
All this red card for denying a goal scoring opportunity is cack, if the incident is in the area, because as soon as the penalty is awarded, the "goal scoring opportunity" is given back. That was a yellow card challenge anywhere else on the pitch, that is all the refs should have to think about.
One thing that's making me laugh is the Derby fans are absolutely slating Forsyth, and have been for weeks... Yet the media still have him as the leagues best left back because he plays for Derby!
He was anonymous yesterday. For what it's worth, I think he's probably talked about as one of the best left backs because he's recently played for Scotland, much like Anya is mentioned as one of the league's best wingers.
There was a clear cut penalty in the Arsenal game today, similar to last night - yellow card. Surely the award of a penalty is sufficient in most cases, if he had been wiped out by Gomes as he rounded him with an open net, then fair enough, but that was a poor decision. Great performance though by the team and the fans - had a great night out to be fair! Derby fans we met afterwards were very complimentary about the team and the support.
A measure of how our team has developed in recent months..only 2 of our starters on Friday night (Ighalo and Deeney) started the home fixture with Derby earlier in the season.
Two worst arse clenching moments in that game:- 1. When Cathcart nearly scored an OG and Gomes had to save it. 2. When it was bouncing around loose in our 6 yard box right at the end.
Bang average for us. Bang average for them. Has a career because he can kick with his left foot. Still looks a complete smug **** considering his limited talent. If they went up, there's no way he'd start for them in the PL.
