Given the level of violence used, I applaud the sentence. However we now have a goal scoring problem.

    Now?

Even before this happened, John Eustace was the highest scoring Watford player on our books.

Would he really have survived the takeover anyway? I know he does a lot of donkey work but he's not the most technically gifted is he. Plus a lot of his goals were deflections, tap ins, even attempted blocks! If we are getting some very decent players on loan and even a new manager then I think Troy would have struggled to make the starting line up anyway.

And we're about to get taken over. Things will change dramatically.

Should have got the death sentence, bring back public executions, off with his head and then display it outside Traitor's Gate as a warning to others.

I respect your opinion but it is perhaps a little arrogant. The takeover hasnt completed yet, it may not result in all te best players in the world immediately packing their bags for Hertfordshire. He is a Watford lad now though, one of ours, a top scorer last season, tapins, poaches it all counts! like many in his profession he made the wrong call on this incident, he admitted his guilt. Whilst I accept a crime was commited I think the sentence was a little harsh and Id have preferred him in the squad from the start of next season.

Keep your head down son, count the days and come back stronger

Watford senior striking options ATM: Iwelumo and Garner, so that is what 4 goals a season between them?

Your a very hard man. We would need to build hundreds of prisons if the likes of Troy were never released and had to serve life! Still it would solve the unemployment problem as you would need tens of thousands of screws.

The club haven't said anything yet..are they waiting to see what the new owners think or what the chances of getting a replacement or two are?

I don't care who you are, that's unacceptable and must be released.

A real shame I thought he was excellent at the Watford: In your Place event he attended

My sentiments as well I am afraid.

I would hope there was a clause written into his new contract as well in case of this.

Unfortunately most other clubs will accept it and fight to sign him thus earning Troy a large signing on fee and probably better wages. I am not saying you are wrong, but the outcome will be that the club is hurt financially not the player.

I don't know the whole story but if he was drunk, provoked and angry then things can happen, not saying it's right but it happens. I hope the club stands by him in a difficult time but i understand if they sack him.

More info on the 'fight' on he Wobby now. I for one will never sing his name again and hope he gets sacked for this. Disgusting. And now the details are out blows the whole "what's the problem? 2 sets of lads have too much to drink and have a bit of a fight" out of the water really. More like bunch of thugs join in with cowardly attack in massively one sided beating.

Just annoys me the others didn't sent down as well and that Troy will probably be out after 5 months, playing with another League 1 or Champ team getting paid silly money and having fans ignore the fact he is a thug because he scores a few goals playing football.

Football lost it's sense of shame and morals along time ago.

Nonetheless as a family orientated club and wanting to set the scholars at Harefield a good example he should serve his sentence and be released by the club.

Another brainless idiot who prefers to let his fists to do the talking. Supposing his foot had connected with the pterion of his victim and resulted in worse consequences would some of us be less sympathetic.

An idiot is he and unfortunately other idiots , because football has precious few scruples will come in and try to sign him when his lenient sentence is up.

The latest article in the WO makes for uncomfortable reading, as does the reader comment by somebody who himself suffered a broken jaw.

As I posted earlier, judges have to follow the law and they don't just pluck sentences from thin air. He obviously thought the severity of the action deserved nearly a year inside.

It's a 'tragedy' for the people who gut hurt and for Deeney's family who are left to pick up the pieces during that time. And for Deeney himself, who will forever pay the price of ten minutes of madness.

As for the future, I honestly don't know..and I guess that's why it's become such a lively debate here. Were it Joe Bloggs, we'd not bat an eyelid at the sentence. Were it anybody else's player, we'd probably tut and say good riddance. But it isn't..it's one of ours and i can totally sympathise with those who want him kicked out our club but also those who say give him a second chance. I'm just relieved I don't have to make that decision myself, as its not an easy one.

Ironic too that the sentence came on the same day that QPR decided to stick with Joey Barton..despite the violence he created ON the field of play and watched by millions.

Looking on Twitter it seems that a lot of the youth players are quite friendly with Troy. Hopefully they'll learn that if you want to be a footballer you have to keep yourself out of trouble. As for Troy, I don't want him at the club. Appreciate what he's done and he worked his socks off for us but I don't want to see him in a Watford shirt again.

The problem is we extended his contract KNOWING about the prosecution and KNOWING that he was pleading guilty. I assume Sean recommended this, and if so, questions need to be asked why he did it.
