Surely the only answer too this is to sign a decent striker, push Del to his natural position and have Hughes used in the centre, if and when. Signing another wide player doesn't solve as much as singing a striker. We have about 6 crap strikers. That's a bit harsh really. Success has about 3 good games a season in him, Deeney has a good game 2 in 10 and Gray can be absolute dogs hit but shin in a goal here and there, but neither is as good as the sort of strikers in the teams in and around 7th-12th place in our rivals' teams.
Defenders - Good ones are usually experienced (old). Young good ones are usually at big clubs or very expensive. Not a great deal of profit to be made. Not PR friendly. Midfielders - Every failed striker ends up a midfielder. Usually cheap and abundant. Huge profits to be made. Quickly if they are good. PR friendly. Strikers - Good ones play for big teams. Old good ones like big wages. All command massive fees. Break even if you are lucky (more likely to reduce with age). Very PR friendly. Thats the Pozzo model. It has to be. They are not oligarchs.
Chalobah is set to stay according to Daily Mail reporter Sami Mokbel. Also, S*n are saying West Ham have made an enquiry for GD. We're demanding £30m Two spots available in our 25 man squad. Would imagine those will be taken by a new CB and Jerome Sinclair.
Worst thing is, the Pozzi don't own Granada anymore and Udinese are **** so we haven't even got any lones to have or young players to poach and never play.
Spot on. We're a couple of wins from safety - if that - and people are frothing at the mouth demanding we sign CBs and strikers, to my considerable amusement.
£14m for Billing is the story doing the rounds. Can't see why Huddersfield would sell given their current state. And also cannot fathom why we would be in for a CM unless Doucoure or Chalobah are on their way out. Doesn't make sense to me so probably best filed under 'nonsense'....for now.
Rather we sign some wonder kid from Swaziland alongside a youtube video with some ****** dubstep in the background, at least that way we can pretend he'll play for the first team in 5 years time and be decent.
And £14m for a poor player in a terrible team seems mental when we've signed players from Barcelona and Juventus for less
JS transfer fee was 4m. You could probably buy Oxford United 3 times over for that. Never did I think something like that could ever happen in the future during the Basini era. This post has been sponsored by @LHFWC
Pozzo Model. Crow about all the profit you make on the odd player and turn a blind eye to the fact you’ve pissed away all those profits on utter garbage.
Haven't they used this system for something like 25 years now though? And in terms of club size and income been pretty successful?
Kevin Affleck, who you would think would know something about what’s happening at the club, has tweeted there’s a ‘news vacuum’ at the club and if anyone wants any updates to follow @sr_collings on twitter. Said twitter account has said there will be no incomings or outgoings. Seems about as official as it will get that we should expect nothing at all.
We won't be signing a striker. We've survived, and will likely finish mid-table. We'd all like to finish in 7th and have the chance for a European campaign, however, the first-team ready striker that would help us to do will cost a minimum of £20m. We have too many strikers on the books at the club already - and with 2 young prospects like Lukebakio and Cucho who have done well this season, it would be madness to go and spend that sort of money for the small amount of money a run in Europe would give the Pozzos. From a business and footballing standpoint (not so much ours as fans!) it makes much more sense to wait until the summer, let Gracia assess Lukebakio + Cucho then get rid of the deadwood and go from there. However, we have an ageing (Cathcart turns 30 next week which leaves us only Kabasele + Wilmot as the only CBs under the age of 30) defence, which desperately needs improving - with no youngsters out on loan. That improvement could be the deciding factor between European football or not, and even if we fail - it's still an improvement to the team that's needed next season. Centre-back must be the priority. We can't go round spunking loads of money for positions we're already stacked in, otherwise we'll end up like Everton which is something we should be aiming to avoid.
