thank you very much for deserting your country and leaving them a man short you are bigger than england obviously.
One end of the spectrum: Steven Taylor - great player, great heart James Milner - not very good, but he plays his socks off. Other end: David Bentley - pretty good, but not as patch on the heroes on the pitch tonight
If he ever plays for England again I will be ashamed... more than ashamed, he is a dirty little stain on English football.
What were the odds that Carson would go the wrong way EVERY single time? Still, the lads did well. I was watching in the gym and had to stay on the treadmill throughout the prolonged affair (best view of the TV). I'm knackered now.
I was sitting down watching it for the three hours and I was kackered. You must have needed a lay down afterwards!
I was thinking exactly the same, funny seeing as he's had such a brilliant tournement! :]] Bentley can get f****d though, shouldn't be let back in now.
Reminded me of many a Watford performance:dismay: The better team in the first half, went 1-0 up (so nearly 2-0) then dropped deeper, and deeper, and deeper as the second half went on took off 2 strikers, brought on another defender, dropped deeper still, panicked and conceeded a goal in the last 5 minutes. Why if attacking the oppositions goal makes you the better team, and puts your team in front do so many managers panic, and try to defend a one goal lead against a team that are desperate to equalise, therefore sending out the message that we are afraid of them.:doom: All that said Bentley is a selfish, egotistical 5hit, who has never done a proper days work in his life and would not understand actual exhaustion if it got up and smacked him in the face.
when i scored bently score his free kick at wembly i thort i want him in the first team! now i want the little ****** never to play for this great country again the under 21s showed all the heart a england shirt deseves i hope bently and the full team have a look at performance and learn from it!
He feels Blackburn's Inter Toto and Uefa cup "run" is more important than England. Scandalous. I'm not sure what Agbonlahor's excuse is, maybe he wants to come back on loan to us, but he did sod all when he was here.
Fair enough if he feels too tired to play and he doesn't feel like he'll be able to perform at his best, however he should've said this to Pearce a lot earlier allowing England to replace him instead of going to the tournament one man short.
I'm a bit tired. Maybe I'll just ask my boss if I can go home for a nap. Playing football 2 times a week is NOT exhausting. Especially when you have a team of specialists making sure that your diet and physique are ideally suited to the task. I can fekking handle it and I am not professional athlete. You are talking about 90-180 mins of work per week. Easy life. Try doing a proper job, like labouring all day in all weathers. If Bentley ever pulls on the shirt again, it will be a sad day for the 3 lions.
Nah. He was uncontactable because Villa forgot to advise the FA of his holiday plans. As there was a deadline for naming the 24 man squad he had to be left out. Of course it's possible to argue that a player should be proactive and be ready for the call himself but hey, that kind of thing requires brain cells.
Agbonlahor is just an example of a typical thick modern day footballer. I am sure he just thought that everything would be done for him like it is at club level nowadays. I thought Wenger was a fool to let go of Bentley a few years ago, as OK he seemed a bit arrogant but I thought that was immaturaty, it has been proved to be a shrewd move though. Now, I hope Bentley never gets anywhere near an England squad again. Us fans always need a new villian at the start of the season, Ronaldo last year, it will be Bentley this year. He can expect a few boos from opposition fans I am sure.
Bentley is a quality player, and is a young player that has played pretty much non-stop for blackburn this season. If he is telling the truth, and is run down and exhausted, then that is a perfectly good excuse, as it does happen.
Yes all well and good that he's tired etc, i can just about live with that. However you tell the gaffer before the tournament so you don't lose a player through it. Hes an utter disgrace and i think he should be stopped from playing for England totally.
the_ivam, its MUCH easier to pick a scapegoat and just blame our general poor performances in major competitions on them . . . keep up . .
Spot on, once again we just weren't good enough. The Dutch passed us of the park, rather than complaining about Bentley, why don't we complain about the fact that we don't produce players who are technically good enough to compete with the best the world can offer. As we found out with Watford, theres only so far blood, guts and heart can take you.
Nobody is saying its Bentley's fault we lost but when all of the other players who went put in there best efforts against the holders and only lost after a long penalty shoot out. you at Bentley and think well they those who went did a great job then why could you not go over there.
DJStation, if you are english you will know that our failure was ALL David Bentley's fault, especially the last minute goal and losing on penalties.
We didn't lose because of Bentley, but that doesn't change the fact that his attitude and behaviour were reprehensible. He should never represent his country at any level. It's true about England though. We don't have what it takes to go all the way in any tournament, so we'd rather a heroic defeat with a ref or an individual player to pin the blame on, rather than actually winning something. Our underacheivement since 66 can only be attributed to a fundemental flaw in our sporting mentality. We are a nation of brave losers who don't have what it takes to drive through and actually win things. Until we can work out how to challenge that, and instill a winning mentality in our children from an early age we will always be looking at a semi final exit at best.
Whenever we go out we complain about some diving bugger, or the keeper coming off his line for penalties, like Holland and Portugal. Our resolve to not cheat on the national stage means we need a bloody good team in order to win.
