Formerly the next Beckham eh? Now a goalkeeper? Too busy doing his hair to stop shots. It's a no from me.
He's very good, but pretty much every Championship club has been linked with him in the last year. He was a 'target' for Forest at the end of last week.
I watch Southend whenever I can't make it to a Watford game. Bentley is far more confident and better than Bond. He's tall (6ft 4"), imposing, commands his area, great shot stopper and is very mature for his age. Certainly has a big future in the game and VERY RARELY makes any errors. His distribution could be better but that will come with experience. I don't understand why he hasn't been selected for the U21s yet. If we could get him, I'd be delighted. Southend will probably be holding out for a 7 figure fee though, and I don't know if we'll be prepared to pay it given the model in place.
Interesting - given that Bondy is keeping him out of the under 21s, he must also be worth some transfer fee?
Or buy him, Bond there on loan for from Jan till end of season. From clips I have seen of him, I like his command of the area. Sure he will be playing Championship football next year at least.
I also watch Southend fairly often and Bentley is an excellent keeper. It would be a great signing if it ever happened. Massive potential.
We don't have the best record in developing young keepers post Foster - he might be better off elsewhere and we'll keep buying the veterans!
He needs to be playing regularly, not sitting on the bench here. Better idea would be to buy him and immediately loan him back to Southend for the rest of the season.
Sorry, but any excuse to post this piece of genius:
