From http://thewatfordnest.blog.com/ Experiencing my first season at University, I was completely isolated from events happening on the pitch down in Hertfordshire. I hadn’t yet invested in Watford World, and our mid table position meant we were an unlikely choice for Sky. As was the style of a Watford season during the Lewington era whilst our league form and style was deteriorating at a rapid rate we seemed to play well against the Premiership sides in the cups. Watford were to have their ‘debut’ on the Rosser Bar big screen against Liverpool, at Anfield, (the return leg was shown as well). However I was unable to celebrate a goal at Rosser Bar and longed for the day we’d be back on the ‘big screen’. Fast forward two years and those Liverpool games still only feel like yesterday, I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone. Much has changed, Rosser Bar is no longer the popular choice for football, it has been replaced by the Mill, and I have now celebrated Watford goals at University, the most memorable being the Gavin Mahon strike against Southampton on my 21st. I play Pro Evo 6 quite regularly with my mate Dave a Liverpool fan, he plays as Liverpool, I play as Watford. The games are very realistic, I lack quality but show plenty of grit and determination but always come unstuck against a Gerrard/Risse/Alonso Strike(s), moments of poor concentration or passing skill I can’t do anything about. Occasionally I win, the best being a 1.0 win in the 89th minute with Darius Henderson’s poor control sending the ball past a helpless Reina but often I lose (sometimes heavily!)… The point is, that the Liverpool game was important to me. Listening to 3 Counties it sounded like we did ourselves as a club proud. The players never gave up, the fans never gave up. Dave often goes to the games but forgot to get a ticket for the game yesterday but sent me the following message “Watford can hold their heads high after their performance! You Just need a goal scorer!”. We frustrated the Liverpool fans and team so much in the first half, one can only wonder what might have happened if a fleeting moment of loss of concentration in the 46th minute hadn’t occurred. 1.0 to Liverpool courtesy of Craig Bellamy. Watford had few real chances, but that is probably to be expected against the side with the best home record. Al Bangura could, maybe should have made it 1.0 when the scores were level and Ashley Young could have made it 1.1, though for some reason his chance was not shown on Match of the Day, only his back header which was a half chance at best. Aidy opted for the unreliable 3-2-5 formation in the final 5 minutes, Shittu, Ash, Bouazza, Smith, Macca upfront, unfortunately like against Wigan last season that meant we conceded. Alonso with a tap in, by his standards (private joke I share with Dave!). The first league goal he has scored inside the opponents half since the strike against Newcastle. Probably a fair result, Liverpool didn’t deserve to win by more, all to play for after January…But lets hope Mr. Simpson doesn’t do a Delia Smith! Over 500 words as usual, and not really a diary, so didn't think it was suited for the main thread but if anyone wants to move it do. Feedback (Criticism!)welcome as always!
nice to see you play as watford on pro 6. i do too. currently doing a premiership season and i have watford second after 27 games only a point behind arsenal8)
I signed Messi on a free on my master league game (on regular settings). Now I’ve had some practice I think I’m going to put up more of a battle next semester and win more matches (like in real life hopefully!)
Three games ago AB was still talking about Europe. Now he's admitted we're in a relegation battle. Does that mean 3 games won and we'll be back on track for Europe. Positivity is what the fans need to provide!!
