Main thread for Mr. Wilder. Expect a few pages between now and May. Or maybe he gets to stay on...

At least he hasn’t been sacked in the recent past from a similar team in a similar league who was similarly failing, phew.

A 352 then with attacking wing backs and a CB providing overlaps? Didn’t watch Boro enough to know if his formation has evolved.

I wonder if Sarr will be dropped, played up front or at WB.

Did Boro also play the overlapping CBs? I can't see any of our CBs doing that, even Gaspar if you play him at RCB

    An awful backward appointment.
Another dinosaur. Our next manager will be Steve Bruce.

Will the players adapt to his preferred 3-5-2 formation ?

And he liked his central defenders pushing out wide and attacking .

Is Wilder going to stay even if we dont reach the play offs or just another stop gap?

Wilder said Joao Pedro and Sarr were easily the best players in the league after we beat Boro and it was a cheat code to have them in the Championship. So can’t see him dropping him.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t go 3 at the back - namely because I don’t think we have the CB’s to deploy it how he likes and we can’t go and recruit for it,

I’m past caring. After Pearson got the boot was the time I stopped giving a ****. Doesn’t matter who’s in charge all these mercenaries with no leadership fails every time. Hopefully Pozzo makes a few quid selling Pedro and Sarr and with the last parachute payment it will be enough to put in his old man’s back pocket. Then he can **** off back to Italy

They played as the front 2 in a 3-5-2, so if he was that impressed by the two of them, I can see him sticking with it. Just looking at the team that day, Matt Clarke and Paddy McNair were the outside CBs, without watching them religiously, they don't strike me as being the overlapping type, so he might go with 3-5-2 anyway? Then again, that might explain why he couldn't replicate his Sheffield United form at Boro?

Seems the biggest gripe Boro fans had with him is that his head turned and he wanted out, doubt that'll be a factor in this case at least

    Indeed, Good luck Mr Wilder. My estimate is we will finish around 9th, with the last 6 matches being meaningless;

Seems a pretty desperate move, but probably motivated by the fact if we don’t get promoted we will have to sell the likes of Pedro, Sarr, Louza etc

Never liked him. Look at Boro before and after he left this season.
Grumpy miserable sod, can't wait for the first disagreement between him, Manga and Gino.
    I give it one month.
Chris, I have set you up perfectly.

You would get a progressive Portuguese manager with a massive watch and an even bigger ego. He would have his head turned and leave. Then we’d appoint the nice Spanish man. And at that point you take the dice away from Gino, because that was where it got really silly

We at least have the defenders for it now, unlike at the start of the season (assuming we don't get more injuries again), but I just don't like 352 as a formation and it rarely seems to work for us.

Based on this I'm relieved Wilder is only on a short term deal and we should hopefully get a more exciting appointment in the summer regardless of how he does.

With the fire sale that will no doubt take place - I wouldn't count on it. As lovely as that thought might be.

I’m not sure I agree.. Chris Wilder has no evident dislike for Watford, and no particular negative history with us outside of the fact that he’s managed in the same division as us on multiple occassions.

Hodgson on the other hand disliked us before joining us, and evidently despised us even more when he was actually with us. Horrible old ******* he is..

I see this appointment as more of a Nigel Pearson type. Bringing in a no nonsense manager who will ‘attempt’ to firefight the flames that currently surround the club.

Bilic was probably meant to be that.

On the basis of the general reaction to recent games he'll have to win 3/4 straight away to get any real backing and support.

    Then not lose to Luton.

I didn’t read their comparison as literally comparing them as men, more it being a desperate last roll of the dice to achieve something, by appointing someone who had once done before what we’re trying to achieve now. It’s a very similar appointment in terms of it being a short term deal until the end of the season, with probably a large bonus involved based on them achieving a very improbable outcome.

Hodgson had more recently kept a side up in the PL than Wilder has got a club promoted from the championship, which ultimately were/are their respective aims.
