Sure, though I'd not seen them mentioned anywhere else as genuinely making an offer.

It's pretty limiting though - if Brentford continue as a top half PL side it might seem a stretch if he could get good enough for them. He'd probably have more PL possibilities if he did well in the Champ.

Maybe the Danish league is a gentler intro to European football before a bigger move, rather than coming into the very physical champ and bombing ???

Europa Conference League is not a particularly high profile competition, and they could get knocked out in the play-off round next month after just 2 games! Even though Midtjylland are seeded, they could get drawn against someone like Aston Villa or Osasuna and it be curtains to their competition.

Yes, that's the only logic really - but it would also suggest that maybe he isn't all that and we've not missed out on much.

We offered £3M, Rangers offered £7M. It must be more about Sung wanting to stay closer to his family, which I can understand. He did say he was ready for Europe but maybe Denmark have offered him a lot more than Hertfordshire could.

Do you really think Denmark is geographically closer enough to South Korea to have a tangible effect on any decision about proximity to home when deciding which club he wanted to transfer to?

Maybe Denmark is his level. Strange he declined opportunities from more than one Championship club to go there.

If he wanted to stay close to his family he would have stayed in Korea rather than going to a town in the middle of Denmark. It hardly makes a material difference to the travel time...

The more likely explanation is that they offered him better wages than us and we tried to cheap out. We know that Gino refuses to dip into his pocket at this level unless there is the opportunity furnish our favorite crook and his brother with agent and transfer fees.

It was just a suggestion of a possible motive for chosing Denmark. I think we knew this was dead in the water a few weeks back when we heard nothing about any movement. He does look like a good player, he's still young and can get better. But our toxic environment was never going to be much of a pull.

So are you suggesting Leicester and Blackburn refused to dip into their pockets too?

Quite - and even if it was, there aren't even any direct flights from Copenhagen to Seoul! Plus Midtjylland is a 3 hour drive from Copenhagen airport, so that'd be 3hr drive + 14 hr flight.

Meanwhile, with Heathrow it would have been just a 1 hr drive + 12 hr direct flight (so a 4hr quicker journey time).

Ok Leicester wouldn’t be attractive enough to move to?

Exactly. Whatever happens it's Pozzo who will be blamed. Were we even that interested?

Also, why would Rangers have offered more than double what the selling club were actually asking for and accepted?! Doesn't sound right.

No idea. But that was the number floating around for a fair bit when interest in Sung first arose from Rangers. I think us going in for 3M was a more reasonable offer. That said, it's all just rumors and speculation. No offical numbers ever surface until the deal is done.

I find it very unlikely that when entering talks, we expected him to be available for anything significantly under the £2.6m it appears he's leaving for. Much more likely that he's simply decided to take another option.

Blackburn have only spent over £1m on a player once in the last 3 years. Not sure why that is hard to believe.

Leicester are clearly swimming in a different pond and I would imagine their offer would be very different. I doubt cash was an issue as you say, but there is also no guarantee he woulds start for them given their current options.

I'll be honest, even in more austere times, I doubt we're being gazumped by the 7th best Danish club, I suspect we weren't that interested after all

Which is probably the truth. A lot of media soon latched onto it as a major coup (even Mr. Reliable A L) and it would surprise nobody that Manga/Costa have even entertained the idea. We need to stick at what we are good at landing after all.

No, not expecting any specific actions to be taken, certainly not in public view.
I just don’t want to hear excuses at the end of the window about being held to ransom or a player keeping us waiting and changing their mind etc. It’s up to Watford to sign up the squad they need for the coming seasons challenges, and not leave all their eggs in specific baskets and then claim to have been let down.

It sounds like the ship has sailed on this one anyway, so there we are.

Supposedly he’s done an interview saying he “wished” he could have moved to England but we never made an offer :D

Should have changed agent Cho lad

Kim Min Jae signed for Bayern today as well, just to reinforce the “lessons learned”

But according to Leventhal he was our top target? And according to elsewhere Blackburn and Leicester were considering him?

He is not going to sign. We were just linked and never in the running.
Pozzo and Duxbury would say we are in for Messi ur Ronaldo if they thought it could keep the fans happy.
We are broke, potless and this is why we have only signed an injury prone player on a free transfer and another player on the slide down in his career for 50k.
We hope for more this season in the Championship, but surviving relegation would be a bonus.
Ismael will be gone if he fails to gain 20 points from the first 10 games.
