As much as it probably hurts Brum right now, they have been flirting with relegation to League One for years. I don't know much about their setup obviously but they have always struggled to get anywhere near over 12th for the past few seasons. They could of gone down four or five seasons ago but had a final day miracle. I wish them well and do hope they come back up sooner rather than later, it's a well supported club and although they sit in Aston Villa's shadow I think their fanbase is more Brum than Villa. But that is just my view, not fact.

As for Udders', it's sad to see them go but they've been wretched all season and needed to win 10-0 today against an Ipswich side going for promotion. Well done Rotherham though, ending their horrible season on a high by slapping Cardiff.

Ha Ha Leeds - bottled it.

    Well done Ipswich, fantastic achievement.

Probably means Gino will sack Cleverley if we start badly and get a new manager in !

A season under Eustace or Mowbray and they stay up relatively comfortably I reckon, but they were absolutely honking under Rooney, Mark Venus proved utterly out of his depth, and while they did pick up points under Rowett, they dropped four points against the two worst teams in the division

Brum were 5th when they sacked Eustace. I can't wait to we get american owners and become a soccer project!

Yeah, I had lost a bit of faith in it not long ago, but recent results have shown just how crazy and unpredictable it can be.

To be fair to the Prem, although the gap between the bottom three and top three has been huge this season, between Arsenal and Luton it’s been reasonably competitive. It’s mainly teams like Man City (along with the huge financial gulf between the top two divisions that makes it so hard for most promoted clubs) that are ruining the competition - even at Arsenal Arteta has just built a bloody good team over the years and I don’t recall them spending all that much. As a comparison, recently Plymouth beat Leicester (who went on to lose at home to Blackburn today) and anything less in the end would’ve seen them relegated. In the equivalent fixture, Forest vs City, Forest had next to no hope of winning, as is so often the case when the weaker sides play City, especially at the business end of the season.

I agree with your over all points, but Arsenal have spent an awful lot of money too, I mean they spent £100m alone on just one player. It’s still preferable to City either way.

Yes - a stark reminder that a change of ownership can also make things worse.

How's this for a dramatic change in fortunes--last season Ipswich and Forest Green were in the same division, next season there'll be FOUR tiers between them!

    Congrats Ipswich.

    What a season they've had.

Best manager in the league by far.

Hahaha, excellent, relegated over (the very best part of) half a season. We should all bookmark that tweet and revisit every day as a form of microdosing to help deal with the upcoming full season possibility.

Don't think I've seen it mentioned here, but is the CEO Mark Ashton who has masterminded Ipswich getting promoted our ex CEO Mark Ashton?

    Yes it is.

Think he was at Bristol City before that and not very popular.

Guess he is now though at Ipswich .

As good as that result/performance was, it will always be a sort of false dawn moment for me personally. Yes we did play well again against Plymouth and should of won that game as well, but the QPR side we played had just lost 5-0 to Oxford in their final pre season friendly so were probably shot for confidence. They were certainly a different proposition at Loftus Road where we needed two rather classy goals from Livermore to win the game, but they still managed to put us under sustained pressure. It was a sign of how much better they had become and how poor we were beginning to get.

Some teams start slowly then finish very well. My worry is, if we ever start as slowly as Sheff Wed did last season regardless of the head coach, we would be relegated by March.

Such a shame. Real shame. Such a likeable bloke. Absolutely gutted for him!!

Hull fans are mostly baffled. Who does their owner think they are? Us?! Birmingham?!!

Very strange move but presume the target was top 6 after spending a bit of money ?

Rosenior earlier on this year said he and the owner get on well.

    Obviously not for long !

Hull have had a very Watfordy moment there.

I mean, Hull did spent a small fortune and not even make the playoffs. Their wage bill is pretty eye-watering I’m told and they could be in trouble next season with the EFL financially. Wage bill rose by 86% and made a loss of over £20m. The will need to be selling this summer if they don’t want the EFL to come knocking for points deductions…

I suspect Rosenior knew he was under pressure to get them up from within - and failed.

Does make you wonder had we finished 7th under VI whether or not Gino would of done the same.

    Yeah, he would have.

Can we return Cleverley to the bargain bin and hire Rosenior? He comes across as a prat but had Hull playing pretty well.

Absurd decision, in my opinion, by Hull to fire Liam Rosenior after his first bad run. He’ll be snapped up very quickly and Hull will almost certainly get someone less talented

I’m not sure he did any better than was expected given the players he had available. His team achieved some impressive results and performances largely on the road (like the win at Southampton) but only eight home wins all season, near relegation form at the MKM Stadium in the new year and a very mixed record against the strugglers suggest a manager who got results pretty much purely down to the players at his disposal rather than someone who’s tactically astute and able to get the best out of his players individually and as a team (a la Rohl and McKenna).

There are some interesting Hull reactions to this over on r/Championship:

I think they did spend money but still seems harsh when as the fans say he got the best out of players like Tufan .

It’s not like Hull finished miles off the play offs either .

I mean but for Ipswich’s outstanding season and a strong relegated 3 probably would have got in the top 6.

Mind you as we know owners do what they like !
