    Stockley Park? near Heathrow?
If so i went through there on a bus a few years ago but can't recall seeing any signs that it was the headquarters of whoever is controlling football. Did i miss something?

We’ve never really done Chinese military history justice on here.

Or ‘what really grinds my gears about the periodic table.’

    Plenty of ground to cover.

    You sure did.

It’s where the VAR refs sit in some form of nuclear bunker.

Presumably all hush, hush hence no signage.

The third runway could well cause interference on their tv pictures so an excellent reason why it should not be built.

Is it really? Well i never (noticed anything)

Presumably situated there for a quick get away to foreign climes should the system break down and an angry mob is formed.
"Was he... beep... offside? beeeep" "Control tower to fourth official.. you have clearance to take off on runway 4 left.. over"

    Mark this moment in history.

In 2021, after a string of clear VAR mistakes against Watford this place at Stockley Park will be subject to an arson attack. This is the very moment Dave Lopez-Garcia of Watford gains awareness of the information he needs to impliment the plan. In 2023 a terminator cyborg robot will be sent back through a portal to stop you posting that information (or maybe back a few more years to assasinate your mother, can't remember how it works).

Yes....the "what are we going to discuss down the pub?" argument. That's been foiling VAR for years. Personally, I can't believe that was taken so seriously for so long. Who really wants to go to the pub frustrated by getting done by yet another inept referee and talking about it?

The conversation will now be, "we'd never have got that decision last season without VAR"....and fans of top 6 clubs will be saying "VAR has screwed us over once again......we can't get away with anything now"

VAR should have been used there.
VAR should never have been used there, it wasn't a clear and obvious error.
The camera angle was wrong, he's another one which proves it.
The referee should have watched it himself on the monitor rather than trusting the bloke in his ear.
The referee spent too long looking at that, clearly wasn't sure so shouldn't have given the penalty/goal/red card.
I still think it was a dive.
That was ball to hand, not hand to ball. It was the wrong decision.
That was never a red card tackle. In another game another referee only gave a yellow card for similar.

    [And so on...]

I think City are favourites to get to the final now, but a lot depends on who scores the first goal in the second leg. City getting the away goal could be crucial.

But VAR will always take longer than 10 seconds and "advantage to the attacker" is theoretically where we are now isn't it ?
I agree with the last 2 sentences. There's no reason why they can't do the same in football, cranking up the tension and showing the outcome on a screen in the stadiums.
I think VAR for the very big decisions is right but a lot more thought needs to be put into how they use it correctly, quickly, and to turn it into a plus as they have in cricket.

I think Burton will need to attack, can't afford to sit back. They just need to look at it as beating the league champions by 5-0 in each half, ie manageable chunks. At least they have the leveller of VAR. It would have been 15-0 without VAR eliminating the big team referee bias.

Ah but if some time in the future that happens they would have travelled back in time by now and i wouldn't exist. In fact none of us would because if they are to ever invent time travel in the future they would have been back by now and have destroyed mankind. Which thinking about would mean they never could have invented time travel in the future.
    Or something like that.

Away goals don't count in the semi final of the Carabao Cup. So if City score first and Burton score 10 we go to penalties.

Actually, time travel was invented later this year. Called the Brexit Machine, it brought Jacob Rees-Mogg here from the past in order to take us all back there as slaves.

You have to try to escape the clutches of DOBS (Dear Old Blighty Syndrome) and stop looking for UK news - apart from football news that is. Once you manage that, you will have essentially 'gone native' - and not give two hoots about what is happening in a little island where the natives have apparently gone quite mad.

There was no squad rotation back then. You had to play your strongest team.

Though I seem to remember them playing their reserve keeper or maybe that was Forest next round.

Kevin Keegan was out injured for the second leg but otherwise they were at full strength with the likes of Mick Channon, Charlie George and Dave Watson all playing.

Sadly not. VAR may get reviewed but as most decisions are subjective the top 6 will still get looked after. Take the joke Salah penalty against Newcastle. That wasn't considered enough to review for a dive, so it wouldn't have been prevented by VAR. However if it had been a Newcastle player that took that dive he wouldn't have got the pen.

VAR may sort out offsides, but the big boys will still be looked after on red cards, penalties etc.

A wonderful ending to the report of the semi-final on BBC 10 o’clock news earlier:
“As the Chelsea fans head for Wembley, the Spurs fans demand an enquiry into an event where they brought their own boos.”
    Take a bow.
