Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd has hinted he could well give Tamas Priskin the chance to shine in Saturday' relegation showdown with Charlton. The Hungarian striker has made just seven appearances in the Premiership since his summer move and his only goal was rendered obsolete when The Hornets had a game against Wigan postponed due to the weather. Priskin also played the second half of the 3-0 defeat to Everton last weekend and Boothroyd admits the time may be right to introduce the striker as the Premiership's bottom side face third-from-bottom Charlton at Vicarage Road. "I just wanted to get my time with him to blood him in properly," Boothroyd told Sky Sports News. "He did very well in the game against Wigan that was called off, ended up scoring and he came on and looked a real handful. "Of course he is [in my thoughts] he did very well and players pick themselves and players drop themselves as far as I am concerned. "It is their choice whether they want to be in the team or whether they don't on their performances, so Tamas has got a good chance." Despite their struggles this season, The Hornets are one point better off than Portsmouth were at the same stage last season before their remarkable recovery. With ten points to make up on 17th-placed Wigan, Boothroyd knows his side need to go on a similar run of form to have any chance of protecting their Premiership status. "All I would say is that Portsmouth went on to win six of their last ten and we need to make sure we get a high percentage of games won, starting with Saturday," Boothroyd added. "We need to make sure we get three points. It is a very fine balance between being relaxed and being too relaxed. "Not too much has been said about Charlton to be honest, it was been more about us." very interesting. would love him to start on saturday
i think thats a little bit different to not starting the in form striker in your squad i mean loook at the difference he made when he came on at half time on sat.
Prisken has to play.Just seen AB on sky, said he has a good chance, and that its up to players on their performances to whether they stay in the team. Hmm..Mahon and Francis at the moment on last 3 performances dont really warrant a 1st team place IMO.
Thats why Im confused to hear AB say only players that are playing well will stay in the team and they will be out if they dont, maybe he see"s a different game to 18,000 people.
I hope priskin plays, he needs to get games under his belt and confidence up. on saturday he could of had a hattrick if it weren't for a couple of inches
The danger is from not playing Priskin, Aidy is now over -hypeing him, as these comments appeared not only on Sky but also a number of newspapers and Web sites. Pardew is likely to mark him out of the game - so Hendo needs to play in the gaps.
I doubt Pardew will be any more concerned about Tamas than if it is not Tamas. They will concentrate on their own attacking game and keeping a clean sheet. If we do not fight for every ball, unsettle Charlton and generally play some football and retain possession, we will get beaten rather easily again.
Charlton are struggling for centre backs this week so could be a good opportunity for him. I can see him and King being first choice next year so it is vital for him to some games in the top flight to ready him for next season.
