Please please please let it be true, let's put an end to this horrible chapter. Biggest mistake we've ever made.
Everyone gets so upset about gray, I don't know why. It hasn't worked out, it is probably best for both parties that he finds another club. But he did actually score some goals, and the big fee is relative to us having money. It isn't like this is an Ellinglump situation.
I don't think he's great but he's not as bad as many have made out. My question is more why Giraldi wanted to pay £18 million for a player who doesn't suit our formation/style in any way. That isn't Gray's fault. Watching him against Tranmere was cringeworthy with our lot pumping balls up to him for their man mountain defender to win every time. But yes, that is all down to Gray... I don't recall loads of chances he has missed, when he does play he rarely gets a sniff of goal and has to deal with desperate punts vaguely in his direction. He will never turn the boo boys away though. "Ooh unlucky Geri. Oh it was Gray...what are you doing Gray, that was SH!T!"
This is the most irritating aspect. I've had a running dialogue with three or four fans pre match on this topic. I am no apologist for Gray but others are afforded such grace. He is castigated on every occasion he hoofs the ball past the Molly Rush Tea Emporium or disembowels a ball boy with a pass, which is frequently I admit! Balanced views would be helpful.
i agree -all of this negative stuff cannot possibly help and i don't think he misses more chances than anyone else-the issue is one of basic footballing skills - if the ball is passed to Geri it is under his control instantly - sometimes Gray looks like a park player with this sort of thing and he has completely missed the ball more than once - he simply goes not look like a professional footballer at times
At taking chances he is fine, he just doesn't get many chances. Outside the box and in the buildup I agree he is not up to it. Keep him in the box and get balls to feet he is as good at finishing as anyone at the club. Look at Leicester at home last season - played through by Deeney and slotted it home. I can't remember him getting many chances like that.
There is a thread on miss of the season, he’s guilty of three of the first six quoted: http://wfcforums.com/index.php?threads/miss-of-the-season.56598/
Gray was put clean through with an open goal and guess what he missed again, luckily Pereyra was on hand to mop up after him and score our 3rd
No his first touch let him down again. A premier league player should of controlled that and tested the keeper. It was a good ball to him, his only excuse is he’s just come on but still if he’d of played the whole game the same thing would of happened. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He beat the keeper. It was the player that cleared it off the line which then enabled Pereyra to get all the credit for scoring.
Gray needs to F off l, I’ve stuck up for him in the past, maybe a spell on loan in championship would help him but for 18m I expect him to have some technical ability and to stay on side Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He got lucky. His first touch was non existent again it bounced in his favour. He should of had his shot off faster. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Gabriel Jesus miscontrolled a ball in the box in the game I just seen and the defender got to him so that he scuffed his shot. It happens. Gray only came on for 4 minutes with very little game time this season. So he cant be razor sharp and full of confidence at all. Yet he was in there trying to make something happen. he don't deserve to start but the stick he gets is too over the top. Gets singled out too much.
I used to think that, I get it everyone’s human and can make a mistake. But he does it all the dam time. Sometimes you look at the ball played to the player or what a defenders done to put the attacker off. Gray consistently f’s up his first touch is offside. I’ve defended the guy in the past. I was excited when we signed him. We need to all wake up he’s not good enough. Except it, move him on. I’d love it for him to prove us all wrong but these things won’t just improve by next week I’d love to see him go on loan get games goals and come back stronger but it ain’t happening Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Why? I bet all the top coaches go through the videos and see where players could of done something different. I bet NP and shakey are already sick of wasting their time with gray. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There's no point loaning him out as Pearson doesn't think there's anybody else that can come on and do anything. If he did then they would come on. And as I said before unless we get a replacement no point in moving him on. I'd like an upgrade in every position if the club could afford it but until it happens its a case of going along with what we got as long as the players are trying and not 'meandering' around the pitch. The 'recruiters' messed up striker wise bringing in an injury prone player like Welbeck.
Go watch it back, the first touch is literally perfectly fine, player gets back, he gets his shot away and its cleared off the line. Gray does absolutely fine with it...
I know people will be itching to moan at Gray, but he made something positive happen. He's not a great player, we all know it, but he was unlucky not to score and his shot was parried to set up another great moment from Pererya. However limited a player may be, you cannot moan when he is involved in a key positive moment.
I have and a decent first touch and body shape opens up a shot. It bounces kindly for him Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
if the ball was hit first time 100% clean the shot may have directed to the centre of the goal where the goalie can save it or even gone over the bar. that's the thing when striking at goal. Its fine margins. the clean ones can be saved sometimes and the less clean ones occasionally end up doing some damage. There was a goal the other week where Deeney scored a goal that hit the keeper and went in. It was a dribbler of a shot, he didn't hit the ball cleanly at all if he did the keeper may well have saved it. Again, fine margins.
Agree with you. But I can’t defend gray anymore. I’d be happy with Dalby/Cassidy coming off the bench or Pedro. Give them the opportunity Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I tend to agree. He has a good attitude. Is busy and puts a shift in. I’m not a fan by any stretch and wouldn’t want him to regularly start due to obvious shortcomings but as a sub he’s a good option. We can’t do anything about his transfer fee or wage so if nobody else will take him we might as well ignore that.
He comes off the bench with a minute to go and the game wrapped up. He asks Pereyra to play it through the middle where there’s acres so he can run on to it and put it away like he does. Pereyra takes too long and then what’s been discussed above happens. As an isolated incident it was funny and typical Gray but there’s just no point really discussing it to be honest? Fans who criticise Gray based on today are likely the same people who are criticising Meghan Markle I reckon.
I’ll take that bet. They brought him on and he was involved in a goal while Joao Pedro is sat at home not ready and Isaac Success warms the bench for 90 mins.
