Aidy's Adam-ant

Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd will try to tempt Middlesborough to sell left winger Adam Johnson in a £1,000,000+ deal. Johnson stared for the Hornets during a loan spell but found his place in the team blocked by Stewart Downing when he returned to Boro. Downing stayed at the Riverside in the last transfer window when Johnson was poised to replace him - and now the reserve may fancy a move.
Watford could do an emergency loan deal with a guaranteed signing in the summer when they hope to be back in the Premier League.

A good deal? I for one would see him as the final peice of the Jigsaw for this season.

woud be good if true and a needed signing if we are to have a chance of staying in the prem (once we get there)

I agree he would be a good addition, but I don't see him as the final piece for our jigsaw!!!

I am still not totally happy with our RB options, as Bromby says he is a CB, Mariappa is not the finished article and Doyley never will be.

I would also like to see us bring in a more established ACMF player. As Francis seems to be crocked and John Joe is not ready yet!!! Another option, should we land Johnson, would be to convert him, or one of our other wide men into an attacking central mid-fielder!!!

I did mean for this season to get us there. Then there will be modifications required for our squad but much more money would be available then as we go up without debts unlike the first time!

    have 2 agree.

johnson said he liked it here but would he want 2 stay here?

I'm not convinced he would. Johnno is my mates cousin so naturally i asked him to find out if he'd consider moving to us and he reckons he'd struggle to move away from the North East.

But i suppose the fact he enjoyed his time here would mean should he consider leaving Boro he already knows a lot a about us which could perhaps make a move away easier.

But in my opinion all of this is irrelevant because i can't us getting him if he did want to go.

He would be a fantastic signing for us and I think he would be the last piece in the jigsaw for this season - between them, when on form, we have enough good options for right back.

He was outstanding for us, no matter that McAnuff is improving and Smith has been really good - you'd have to make us favourites to go up if we had him in the team again.

We can worry about getting premiership class players if we get there.

It would be great if he came ... but I think that bigger clubs than us will secure his services.

Who knows though and Aidy has improved transferwise of late.

Jonno back and Tommy Smith to play in the hole as an attacking midfielder, who is also competent on the wing allowing Smith Jonno and McAnuff to interchange during a match giving us lots more fluidity and making us so much harder to mark.

    Well I can hope can't I?

If Johnson is available for a loan or better an option to buy we'd be stupid not to take him. He is a quality player and at the very least it means if Smith or McAnuff get injured we have a replacement. At the moment Ainsworth is not quite ready to be a regular and we do lack depth out wide.

I'd be surprised at the figure though quoted though.

Considering we paid 1.75m for McAnuff and 3m for Ellington £1m with add-ons would be a phenomenal bargain for a player arguably the best in the championship this autumn.

WBA got Ishmael Miller for £900k for Man City so it is doable.

its got to be bollx at £1m (he must be worth at least £3M + as an England U21 regular)

more plausabe is wigan paying £3M for shittu which was in the NOTW today

Well he isn't getting a look in at Middlesborough at the moment, so surely he would prefer to at least play first-team football on loan than just play for their Reserves.

If we get promoted then I will be very confident about us signing him on at least a season-long loan.

    berkshirehorn presumably I upset/disappointed someone

danny won't leave unless we have no chance of premiership football next season. so he won't leave will he.

Danny will stay if we go up and leave if we don't. And I for one wouldn't blame him

And I for one wouldn't miss him. He's OK, but certainly not irreplacable.

Adam Johnson would be a fantastic signing. If there is an ounce of truth in there, we must do whatever it takes to bring him in. He'd add genuine class to our side which is what we will need to progress as a team.

You wouldm't miss Shittu? I certainly would. He's solid, ans is an aerial attacking threat as well as being solid at the back.

Johnson would be an immense signing, but as others have said, I'll believe it when its actuallly happened.

Dan's OK, but he is slow and cumbersome. He could easily be replaced IMO.

I don't agree! In fact I have rarely seen big Dan out-paced...he's deceptively (sp?) quick/kwik!

We would only be able to replace him with Davenport, IMO, that's the only realistic player I'd be happy to replace him with!

You only need to look at how much we missed him when he was away in Africa to realise how much we need him!

He won't go anywhere unless we stay down, and if he wants to then fair play to him, he's done a year here and waited to see what's happened...unlike a certain thieving to$$er at Wigan!

    There you go then!

    He is replaceable!

Shittu is immense for a while and then cack for a few games, but given his potency with corners his goalscoring threat is usually missed.

I too would replace him with Davenport if such an occasion arise, but Shittu would still be an immense sub.

I didn't actually say he wasn't 'replacable'...I highlighted where he said Danny was 'slow' and I said 'I don't agree' and went on to explain why!!

Shittu definetely isnt slow. What aload of tosh.

He's a great asset for us at the moment. On his day an absolute rock plus 8 goals is very impressive.

Yes he has his off days.

I would rather keep him than DeMerit though if i had to choose between the 2 and signing Davenport.

Ah yes, the good old human perception that a small object moves faster than it actually does and a big object moves slower.

Dan is fast. For a Championship center back he's very fast. He needs 2-3 yards to get up to pace, though.

Against Nigeria he out-paced Yacubu on a number of occasions.

He turns like a dreadnought and his slowness off the mark can leave him stranded. Anyway, I wasn't slating him, I was just saying he's replaceable, which he is. I still think he's a decent enough player, but he's not star quality.

What was this thread about in the first place?:sign8:
