Ive heard from two separate people now that Charlton want to bring in Aidy and Ashton and have already held tentative talks. Apparently, (in light of this) we have already approached Paul Ince with a view to him taking over at the end of the season Im not subscribing to any of this, purely a rumour but hey, thats what rumours and transfers are for The second chap I spoke to knows his stuff to be fair (he's on the inside) will update you lot later!! Has anyone else heard this?
I'd still be happy to give Aidy at least until next christmas, but if we did get rid of him, Paul Ince would be one name i'd be happy to see us go out and make our manager.
I think we're at the stage where we either back him or we dont. Either way we cant really have a debate until we know if we're going up or not. If we do, by some miracle, win our next four games.. I cant honestly see him leaving. Unless of course something had already been pre arranged. Billy Davies springs to mind.
Having had the season we've had, spent money, flattered to deceive why would charlton be interested! Hoothroyds had more money to spend than any other Watford manager and what has he done with it, nothing. That wont go un-noticed... If I were Charlton I'd bypass Boothroyd and head straight for Paul Ince. Aidys a much devalued stock, much like Watford Leisure this morning...
Cheerio then. Im sure that will go down well with the Charlton faithfull who are not the easiest to play. Im sure they would welcome 2 people that are not valued by us any more.
There is a general feeling around Charltonthat Pardew is on his way out at the end of the season. Ashton would be missed though
If you mean why would i give Aidy until Christmas, it'd be because i'd like to give him the next transfer window to see how he deals with the obvious deadwood and whether he's serious about changing our style of football. Theres a fantastic manager in there somewhere, but right now his obvious defects have somewhat clouded the positive points, whether we can afford to keep letting Aidy make his mistakes on the pitch and in the transfer market, i'm not so sure, but i'd be more than happy to risk keeping him for another 7 or 8 months should we not go up this season. As for Paul Ince, his early record speaks for itself in saving a desperate Macclesfield side from what seemed certain relegation (7 points clear at the bottom when he joined) whilst this season guiding the MK lot to the title (Similar to Aidy funnily enough). His team, by all accounts i've seen, play nice attacking football. Like Aidy, he's a motivator, who has the respect of the players i suspect straight away because of what he achieved as a player himself. The 'Paul Ince' factor could also be a crucial part of attracting players to our club in the same way that players who wouldn't have though twice about Sunderland (Craig Gordon, Kieran Richardson to name just two) joined them because of Roy Keane. Perhaps it'd be too early to for some to hand him the reins of our club, but i fancy he'd rise to the challenge in the way his former team-mates Keane and Bruce have. Of course, should we get rid of Aidy, there are other names i'd be happy seeing us linked with (Billy Davies, Sam Allardyce or even a long shot like Warnock) but i'd if it came down to Aidy being sacked or even walking, i'd be more than happy to see Ince come in and i'd be confident he'd take us forward. Whether he'd take us further than Aidy, i'm not sure, but thats not for me to decide, it's up to Simpson.
Errrr money? A bigger club? A higher division? A good reputation for giving young managers a chance? He wouldn't have to move house seeing as he's 40 mins up the M1? More money to spend? A better squad? (Ok the last one is questionable :dismay I agree with Luke's post. I wouldn't be too upset (despite comments I have made over the last few months) to see Aidy given the summer to sort out HIS mess of a squad, and to be given a chance to get us back on track and playing something worth watching! Paul Ince however is a big name, and as Luke mentions, he will be able to attract bigger name players (Like Luca could...ok they weren't all that great, but still big names) than most young managers. He's got his side playing some good football, and he's built a good squad there that could be in with a shout of the top six next season in League One.
But he's already had since last december to sort his mess out and change our style of play. So far he hasnt been able to manage it or even show signs of improvement tbh. I'm not saying Aidy shouldnt stay till christmas, but what makes you think he can turn things around by then when he hasnt been able to manage it in the past 6 months? None of the players he has brought in are suited to his hoof ball style. So the way i see it he has to either change his style of play (which so far he refuses to do) or effectively rebuild the team.
I have never been to watch them at home , but was offered a free ticket by my brother in law to go and watch the final at wembley and was my first real chance to go and see what it looked like. I turned up expecting to watch carp unatractive football and was pleasantly surprised by the way that Ince had them passing the ball on the ground ,( not just one or two passes like us) , along with the movement of the players off the ball . If Ince stays at MK for anther year I would not be surprised to see them gain promotion to the championship. I believe that he still lives in London , which was one of the reasons that he moved to MK dons from Macc.
Probably much more difficult to change things around during the season - the close season will give him 6-8 weeks to eliminate the hoofball, replace, bring in what is rquired to change the hoofball and start with a clean sheet. Remember though - all though not brilliant football - up until October 31st we had only lost one league game - so although not pretty on the eye it was working. Mentally - if something is working and got you results ( previous promotion same style, executed better) you would be in two minds just to stop and start again playing a different style. However it has become clearer as the season has gone on and the loss of the one classy player (MK) that it has not - but again to make any major change when you are still in contention would be hard to do because that is what got you there. Thats what I think has happened with Aidy - better the devil you know than the devil you don't - he knows his rough and tumble style has and can work, the untried is untried and a gamble - something Aidy seems to not want to do on the playing field - only with aquiring players - i find that rather strange actaully. It would appear that Aidy has aquired fear and sees it as a foe and not a friend - challenge your fear Aidy - fear not, be bold and the bold will conquer.
Is this Boothroyds style of play or what he inherited from Lewington? Ok it worked in his 1st full season, had the pi** taken out of it in the 2nd season and been well and truly found out in his 3rd season. My question would be does he have any other style or would he go to another club and just carry on with the way the game at that particular club is played and be a motivator rather than a new idea man? His purchased at least two players that want the ball played to their feet but the game plan has not been adapted to suit their style so is he playing to the squads strengths rather than adopt a more flowing approach which he feels uncomfortable with? If this really is Boothroyds style then the money spent on Ellington & Priskin was totally waisted and whats more concerning is how will he attract quality players in the future. Paul Ince knows how the game is played at the very top and has used his experience to combine it with a few decent players and in the main produced attractive winning football. If Boothroyd was going to change the style of play then surely that should have been last season. OK maybe the first few matches caught some of the Premiership boys out but come October it was hardly rocket science for most apart from AJ & co. Even when relegation was a certainty it stayed the same , the close season did nothing to improve it and even now were still suffering from stiff necks. Promoted or not if his not going to change the style of play then I see no future for him either at Watford or any other Championship club and someone of Inces experience might just be the breath of fresh air we all deserve.
Ive not heard this but then i wouldn`t either until it was confirmed. but i like the sounds of it :angel3:
I fear Ince would be another ****** - would come wanting a fair bit of money and to be honest he has no experience of the Championship. Yes he did well at Macclesfield and has done well at MK Dons, but his experience is even less than Aidys! Some are accusing Aidy of being a one season wonder, yet they want Ince!? I accept i might be wrong and I can't argue Ince is not a winner and might try and play a better style but if Aidy does go, i'd rather we got someone that actually knows the league - for me if Reading get relegated and Coppell goes i'd want him As for Ashton he'd be a loss (whatever people might say) but the club will move on and we'd find someone else (maybe again with a bit more experience especially when it comes to Negotiating fees for players?!
