3 million? If Young was worth 9 million, is Adam Johnson worth only 3? I'd say he's worth at least 5 million. Plus, whats the point in you mentioning this again. We all know what a a quality player Johnson is, and I'm sure Aidy has tried to get him, but this topic has been discussed umpteen times.
If they won't even let us have on loan do you seriously think they'd sell him for such a pitiful amount ? Deary me.
As much as I love AJ, there's no chance we'll get him on a permanent AT THE MOMENT! A loan deal will suffice though... I think some of this money from the sale of the car thief needs to be spent sensibly (yeah right) on bringing in Callum Davenport and a left back!
all negative response then, I want to see my club go forward not just sell all the time ,why cant we go after Johnson he hardly seems to be in southgates plans it must be so frustrating for the lad himself coming down here and doing so well then going back and doing next to nothing,if boro ain't going to use him cant we temp them with a decent offer after all we threw money at west brom for wierdy beardy.
I agree we should go after him but no way will £3m interest Boro. Double it and you'll be nearer the mark IMO.
No not at all! He is an undoubtbly quality player that I think all Watford fans would welcome to the club, but you've suggested it again plus he's worth more than 3 million! Kris Commons on the other hand... )
No not at all! If you read my post I said we need to spend WISELY on more than one area! And left-midfield isn't an area of priority at the moment!! Left-back and centre-back would be my main two worries! I'd like to see Davenport's loan made permanent...a good player, and about the best we could get in fairness...fringe players for the Premiership is what we should be looking at! I would love to see AJ here, but if we're being realistic it's only going to be a loan move!
Dropping £5m on a left winger, no matter how good, is not the way to go when we need our other gaping deficiencies filled in. Muff is after all one of the best wingers in the league. Just because we do not spend our time making multi-million £ signings does not mean we do not progress. If we did, it would mean we are Foolam, and nobody really wants to be them right now eh? They go through funds like Kate Moss through STDs. Boro would laugh at £3m. His market price is more like £5/6m, and either way Southgate wouldn't sell him anyway.
Surely if there are rumblings about Downing going to Spurs and the rumours on AJ have stopped I would think that Mr Gibson & Mr Southgate want to put some money back in the coffers for a Centre Forward, they see the best way forward is offloading Downing if he wants to go and then playing AJ in that position and then they would have serious money to tempt a half decent Centre Forward............ Have we got anybody spare at the moment ?
i`d love johno back but carn`t see it. if we offered 5 mill they would say no. so 3 might, just might, be laughed at. 6 mill and he`d be ours but do we have that sort of money to spend
well how much was spurs offering for johnson I know they are also chasing downing but they was linked with an offer for johnson.
Agreed, King might be able to tempt them into some sort of a deal? Might be worth a punt if the Flem thing falls through!!!
Can you prove this? All the other wingers must be pretty crap. I would say that he would struggle to boast that he was evn OUR best winger.
I have heard this evening from the North East that IF and I mean IF Stuart Downing stays a Middlesbrough player by end January, Gareth Southgate (Watford Boys Grammar) is willing to let him return on loan for rest of season (on 48 hour recall after first 30 days). Aidy wants him back (as do we all), I understand he wants to come back and wouldnt consider anywhere else if allowed to loan again ... Aidy will have to sit on his hands on this one, a midnight 31st Jan deal this one if it happens ..... there is hope. That's from that Holly68 on 606, she seems to be quite a trust worthy source going by her recent info etc. as well...
If Downing doesn't leave, then I wouldn't understand why Johnson couldn't come to us. He has hardly been given a sniff at Boro since he was recalled (damn them, if they were going to prevent us using him they could have at lease played him themselves)!
We could also be accused of taking players that were doing well for their teams and then not using them. Hoskins from Rotherham and Ainsworth from Hereford. We get tunnel vision in others doing us wrong but forget we are just as capable of being "The big team" as far as lower league clubs are concerned.
Would be harsh on McAnuff who has recently improved, maybe Jobi could play in the centre? I think we'd all welcome back Johnson though.
Anyone who who "Holly68" is, as his/her comments seems to have some inside knowledge as all I've seen recently have been made before other people and have been very accurate. (I'm not looking for actual names, just wondering if anyone knows who it is)
Check this out http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A31358027 This girl has got an inside source and has not got a single rumour wrong all January (to my knowledge)
Looks very good on paper that team but the main worry is the full backs. Smithy could do well getting up and down....but Johnson didnt always come back and we need him attacking. I hope she is right....but not in our hands. Johnson has been used as a bench warmer for Boro which is annoying for us as we are crying out for some creative quality.
I think he/she is probably Jordan Stewart based on his/her "he is a very good defender" and "he should be made captain" comments :dismay:
I'd play Jobi at Left back... There was a point in the Charlton game where the ball came forwards from Charlton and the Charlton winger was clear on goal, but Jobi managed to beat him to the ball despite starting 5 yards behind him. If we are going to play a high offside trap, we need pacey players to cope when the trap fails. Plus, having Jobi and Johnson playing down the left wing will scare the bejeesus out of the opposition... and it's not like Smith is weak on the right. If we get more than one player into the penalty box, we'll have a goal feast.
If we are trying to play the offside trap within a yard of the centre line, we had better find some answer since none of our defence can catch a pacey striker from behind without having an early shower and, while Lee did a great job when it happened in the Charlton game, we cannot rely on every other team being crap.
