Troy penalties aren like playing rock, paper, scissors. They’ll either be straight down the middle, slightly left, or slightly right. Guess right and you definitely save them. Down the middle is basically his equivalent of going with rock.
Blimey, my heart rate has only just gone back to normal! Why do we do it to ourselves? Would be nice to actually start a game well and play a 90 minute match rather than a 45 minute match! That said, they were immense second half, every single one of them. We didn't give a decent Newcastle side a sniff. I've been calling out for weeks for Sarr to play more centrally and he's delivered second half when given the licence to roam and run at players. Deeney has had his critics (definitely me) and showed nerves of steel for two massive penalties. Fair play. That said, the chance he missed after the first penalty, where he just has to show composure and stick it inside the keeper's left-hand post, sums up why he shouldn't be our main striker going forwards. He brings certain attributes to us WHEN he's on it, but when he's not on it it's like playing with 10 men. Will Hughes, sorry, Sir Will Hughes, was absolutely immense yet again! Everywhere again today and drove the team forward. Massive week, we really needed that! Hopefully Palace and Leicester can do the business for us tomorrow and then I think it's all said and done! Bournemouth have games against Man City away, Southampton home and Everton away. Man City should hammer them, Southampton will want to beat them with a fairly local rivalry, not to mention they're very strong away from home. Everton at home should be good enough to take something off of them. If Villa don't beat Palarse at home tomorrow I would have to say they're down.
Funny how the threads when we win are no where near as lively as when we lose. Society is addicted to negativity.
Yes, it was. The fellow raced across him missed the ball and caught his right knee. BTW credit to Kiko, who is a quick and useful player going forward.
We are so I don't know why nobody is being negative. Deeney is a clown, Sarr can't cross a ball, Doucoure loves passing to the opposition and I'm gutted I can't travel to Rotherham next year now. **** this team.
Does anyone know what the heck Dawson was thinking when he scored that own goal? The offside call against Saint-Maximin looked very tight. The Newcastle player running in at the back post behind Dawson was definitely offside as well. Had Saint-Maximin been onside, then would the goal have been disallowed for the player putting pressue on Dawson having been offside, or could Dawson have been left with egg on his face?
He put it in, because he knew if Saint-Maximin was not offside, then he must be. Smart thinking that from Dawson.
I thought you weren’t allowed to make substitutions after 90 minutes now! Obviously I don’t know the new rules!
Haha why didn't i put any money on him to score then?! Great result for us, didn't even get to watch it as got called out but hoping to watch the second half somewhere at some point. Looks like it meant a lot to Troy today, he has come in for some fair criticism in recent times but credit where its due to put home two penalties today. That is a massive step for us. One more point and we are safe i reckon.
you might be better off doing accumulators for the results that bournemouth and villa both require to stay up
As good as the win was, it’s still quite depressing to think it’ll be another season of misery in the PL with this group of players. Nobody is going to want them whether we go down or not. An overhaul is needed but now won’t happen.
Absolutely, Troy is a real leader, never shirks his responsibility to the team, takes guts and composure to put two penalties away, especially the second one!
Do we expect to see either Suarez or Hernandez? They appear to be unbelievable talents but are all work permits sorted? Sent from my VOG-L29 using Tapatalk
Hernandez got his Spanish passport over a year back I believe, Suarez has been living in Spain long enough now to qualify for his
I think it was after the Southampton game that I mentioned how much Deeney was playing like Iwelumo when he was carrying an injury but playing on regardless, and now it turns out that Deeney has being going that same. I wish the club would give us a heads up as I'm sure people would be far more understand if they knew the truth.
the ref was doing my head in especially in the first with blowing up every tackle, took my mind off of it in the second the fact that we were actually playing decent football
Welbeck is better on the left-hand side, or needs to be a striker in a two - he gets crowded out and loses the ball too easily when the main striker due to his long stride and loose touch. Suarez could be good through the middle but is still only 22, it might be too much to expect him to be a regular performer right away. I'd give him all of Gray's minutes. Cucho I think is also better as a wide forward or even a #10 and is still very young. Pedro still looks too lightweight to be a CF, he'll probably be wanting to play in the exact same position as Welbeck, Deulofeu and Cucho. I wouln't want to rely on any of them to score the goals to keep us up next season, another striker ready to replace Deeney and make an immediate impact is an absolute must.
Hooray we won again! And deserved on the second half performance to be honest. Newcastle were dozing. I see Bruce was crying about our pens, it must pain the opposition managers greatly when they lose to ‘a team like Watford’. Fair play to Deeney as well. I was critical of his passing and 50p head previously, but converting not one but two pens under that pressure I take my hat off to. He really should have scored 4 though today! We’re in a solid position now (I’d never thought I’d say that being on only 34 points!), but it ain’t over till it’s over. We all know only too well the ups and downs of supporting Watford. Not cracking the champagne yet by a long way.
Suarez now has duel citizenship. http://sportwitness.co.uk/watford-striker-secures-dual-nationality-beneficial-hornets-future-plans/
Haven’t commented yet because I’m still buzzing. I had completely written off this season and was convinced of relegation. I even admitted that after 31 years of supporting I was officially done. However like any drug , I just couldn’t put it down. I tried to ignore it, tried to do other things to take my mind off it. Took up Spainish and learned how to salsa. No matter what though, I kept looking, I kept checking, I was a bundle of nerves every game, and I just had to accept that I can never be done with watford. It’s a habit I thought I could quit but I can’t. Massive win today! One foot in the door. It’s not over yet. However I think it will be curtains for Bournemouth and Villa if they lose tomorrow. Come on Leicester and Palace.
He obviously won't find chances so easy against better teams. But he is confident, he's pretty fast, he looks pretty strong, and flipping 'eck, he can finish. Get him here.
This is the first time in our Premier League history that we have won come from behind to win in consecutive games.
In those 31 years we’ve been in far worse positions but I know exactly where you’ve been as I’ve been there with you. Not as far as Spanish and salsa more heavy drinking and sulking on my part. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Whichever system teams in the Prem play, their striker needs to be able to provide an out ball, keep the ball under pressure, and cause opposition CBs problems - nothing to do with hoof ball.
I know we have, thought this was the season that broke the camels back. However my back is still intact somehow.
Don’t think there is much new I can add but worth saying Deeney can hit a ball really hard in a straight line I though Newcastle player ASM looked a real handful ,good skill and very quick Wellbeck starting to look like a striker again, liked that he was trying to tee up another overhead kick Hughes was in my opinion immense , tackle, pass, run into space, repeat Not sure I have ever seen a game with that many free kicks Sarr through the middle is the way forward Will be interesting if Pearson keeps us up, we haven’t always been happy about his tactics but let’s not forget how few teams have been in our position at Christmas and survived , he is clearly a very talented manager
Strikers better than Welbeck are rarer than rocking horse dung and cost >£40m+. I seriously doubt the club can throw that sort of cash around particularly with the financial damage of covid19 to football. And no the answer isn't Josh King or find someone from L1.
