Well we cannot buy anyone till January anyway- and he would not get in the team.

Experienced cover I guess but not cheap ..

Not if it means Kabbs or Cart leaving.

Seems nonsense to be speculating about an aged centre back 9 months in advance.

I don’t expect he’d cost much from Chelsea, but I doubt he’d drop his wages to a level we’d offer.

Great experienced cover if we can bring him in though. At the moment, if either of our preferred centre backs get injured then we’re pretty screwed.

There's no way we're going to touch what he's on at Chelsea. He was a full international when his current contract started.

But he isn't a current international and not in Chelsea's first team at the moment, out of contract next summer , so assume it will be the best offer he gets he takes then! Another report said a replacement for Britos and Kabul.

Current third choice centre back appears to be Mariappa then Prodl, as mentioned in other posts shows how important our first two are at the moment, although there are high hopes for wilmott he seems to be playing in midfield when called upon (friendlies and whatever cup it's called these days)

Last big payday so he will go to the highest bidder. That's rarely us ! West Ham or Fulham I'd say.

A top level home grown defender with no major history of injury setbacks has got to be worth enquiring about

What would we do with him, though? Cathcart and Kabasele seem untouchable at the moment, and with Prodl not even getting on the bench, that would be a conundrum. He could take Mariappa's place on the bench, but would a Chelsea player come to Watford just for that?

He'd probably come in for Cathcart, who is playing very well but needs to be a bit more vocal at the back sometimes.

However, whilst our season has been very lucky thus far in regards to injuries, let's not kid ourselves that Cathcart and Kabasele will survive the season unscathed. And then we really are in trouble.

He'd walk into our side, but I doubt we'd offer the best wages. File under "unlikely."

It's about as unWatford/Pozzo a transfer as I can think of.

I'm confused as to how Gary Cahill, nearly 400 appearances at the VERY top level, including champions league and multiple Premier league titles, is somehow not good enough for our first team. He'd be our best defender by a mile.

Cahill clearly still has a lot to offer. We still need a quality centre half. There's a big gap between the level Kabasele and Cathcart are playing at and the usual level of the others.

If someone like Cahill came in, then Prodl will probably be off. I doubt Britos will be around next season either. Mapps is a solid back up option and Wilmot is around as a youngster to be fed into the side every now and then.

I'd welcome a player like Cahill, however, I'd very much doubt it would be just a straight fight between us and Villa though. I'd fancy us getting him if that was the case. I would expect a club like Fulham to come in for him. Their locality and Joka's connection with Chelsea would put them in a better position of signing him. He's the type of player West Ham and Everton go for too, plus Leicester could do with a new centre back. I think there would be a bit of a scramble for him, but it's good to see we are being linked at this stage.

I was surprised to see he's 33 in December. I can't personally can't see too much of a fight for his signature at that age.

33 is not too old these days. Roll on another 2 years and 35 is the age where he may be struggling to get a new deal.

His injury record is remarkable. He had a knee op back in 2013 and he was out for just over a month, but that's about it. He's not had anything of note before or since. He's only missed 17 matches through injury in his entire career. Some players are remarkably fit, until last season Deeney was like this also.

I get the impression he has longevity on his side.

Would provide some good competition and depth for centre backs, something we are currently lacking. Would also be a good experienced head to mentor Wilmot.

Its a very unpozzo signing and his wages will be too high for us. Villa or a West Ham type move it expect

True and of course if the current 2 get injured we are stuffed but on current form the guy wouldn't walk straight into the team potentially?

As is often the case it’s likely wages will be the overriding issue. There is always some basket case out there willing to pay someone like this £150k+ as they got them for free. I think we all know the suspects. We are not one of them. Would absolutely be a great signing though. Still a decent couple of years in him.

Is there still a couple of years in him? I mean he's nearly 33 and his age and ability has been falling, hence no longer in the England team or playing for Chelsea. By all means he could play, but lets not kid ourselves hes the same player he was or we may a well go and sign Rooney, Beckham and Drogba.

If Gino wants Shergar, Gino gets Shergar. Probably on a loan with an option to buy though and must wait til January.

I was wondering what happened to Shergar. Plenty of of drunken conversations asking if and which horses have come from that bloodline.

The Colney Crew have found some veterinary text books & are confident he will be back in training in 3 weeks.

This is our usual tactic of getting Bournemouth to pay over the odds for a player we never had any real intention of signing. You’d have thought they’d have cordoned on by now.

Andreas Christensen quoted in Danish media saying he may have to leave Chelsea after barely getting a look in since Sarri took over. Cahill is preferred over him when they do rotate...

Younger and surely more in keeping with the ‘model’...
