Would be great, but not a chance we could get him.

Why? I’d put him in a similar bracket to Ake and Bournemouth got him. If he was available, I don’t see any reason why he wouldn’t be a reasonable target.

Christensen is a level above Ake - Ake only ever made 7 first team appearances for Chelsea, Christensen has made 28. Christensen also won M*nchengladbach's Player of the Season award while on loan there, which included playing for them in the Europa League. Chelsea rejected a £14mil bid from M*nchengladbach in 2016 during his loan spell there. Christensen also started every game for Denmark at the World Cup as they progressed to the knockout stages.

Cahill looked every second of his nearly 33 years playing against Derby last night. Made a mistake leading to their first goal and was well off the pace. Based on that we shouldn't go near him.

He did and he fell over but it is very difficult to be match ready if you are playing infrequently.
However I can't see Gino paying his Croesus like wages, even if there is any substance to this rumour.

No thanks, don't need any of those Chelsea rejects, they'd only cry when struggling to get in the team.

The only Chelsea player I would possibly take is Hazard, maybe. He’s not quite as good as Pereyra but is a slight upgrade on Sema. So whilst he wouldn’t make our starting 11 stronger, he would improve our squad depth, just.

Not sure about this one, no doubt he is a good player, but are we still in the market for past their best players?

Maybe he could do a job for a couple of years and possibly bring on some of our youngsters, but I'm on the fence about this one, I'd like to think we don't need ageing super stars to shore up our team, but maybe he could help to bring us on to the next level, mmmmm the jury is out me thinks

Well its not the Pozzo way, certainly not anymore! theirs is buy young, cheap players and sell on at a good profit, not aging expensive wage earning players! He could do a job at a newly promoted team and help them stay up, we are past that now!

Dodged a bullet there - he is old, not motivated and was reportedly on 150k per week at Chelsea....Even if Palace pay half of that, he is huge gamble at best

Is a seasoned pro with a great attitude playing in a key team position. Will get them organised, lead by example and probably save them a few points. Short term and maybe expensive wages wise but will certainly help them this coming season. Maybe too expensive for us but I’d prefer to see him in the team to Mariappa this season.

Where on earth have you got the information that he’s not motivated from?

  28. onion8837

He turned down every loan option offered las season as he preferred to collect his wages without actually having to play.

Very few players who have played at that level will fancy rolling their sleeves up for a potential relegation scrap

Can you link me to the articles where he has turned down loan moves because he unmotivated?

The only one I can find says he turned moves down to stay and fight for his place...

If some fans think he would have been too expensive on 75k a week, I can understand that.

But to say he is ‘too old’ when we have first team regulars who are older and some not much younger doesn’t really fit?

He has a number of qualities that would have made him a great signing. Is a ‘winner’, has obvious leadership skills, plays in a position where we are still weak. He would clearly have easily been our best CB.

Dawson will be 34 by the time his deal expires so I’m not sure age would be a concern anyway.

Holebas is the only outfield player older than him. The fact Dawson is 34 in 5 years time is irrelevant. Not one I’m too disappointed to miss out on

So I said we have first team regulars who are older and you’ve agreed. Not sure the point you’re making. I was right? Whether it’s one, two or seven doesn’t matter - the point I made holds water.

We extended Britos deal when he was 33. We gave Prodl 4 years when he was the wrong side of 30. And Cahill is a superior player to both. Dawson being 34 when his deal expires is relevant because it’s another sign that we favour older CB’s. You can happily add Kaboul and Cathcart to the same argument.

If people think we shouldn’t have signed him, then I understand and respect that. I’m just saying that using his age as a reason is a bit of a red herring when you look at our squad and see that we clearly favour older players. If the reason for not wanting him was you’d rather see us lower the age profile of the squad, then fair enough.

I agree. If a fee was involved or a 4 year deal I could understand 33 being an issue. For a 2 year deal with no fee and just a generous salary I think it would have been a good deal, especially given we all know we are weak there and probably won’t be signing anyone else.

Cahill is currently 33. Prodl is 32. Cahill 75k per week till 35 better value for money than Prodl 35k per week till 34 imo.

I don’t see why it’s irrelevant. We are paying Dawson until he is 34. They are paying Cahill till he is 35. It’s not like they gave him a 4 year contract. Right now Cahill is better than anything we have and the risk in terms of age when contract runs out is similar to our defenders.
