Reports in Spain that he's close to joining Valladolid for next season... https://futbolistos.es/cucho-hernandez-fichaje-cerrado-valladolid-mercado-verano/
Surely a season in the Championship for him to get accustomed to English football would be perfect if we ever want to have him play for us in the PL...
To be fair, the article only says 'could be an option'. May well just be some fan site suggesting transfers like this one...
Take it with a pinch of salt, I'd suggest having looked at some of the other stories they've put out recently.
Lol, the latest Athletic article says that due to work permit issues he probably can't even join us until January anyway! What a mess.
Spanish press also don't think he has a work permit and that he's not been asked to join us for pre season. Says Osasuna are in for him: Diario de Noticias (@NoticiasNavarra) Tweeted: ⚽️ Cucho, sin permiso de trabajo @CAOsasuna #LaEmocióndelSadar https://t.co/Pr5z5s9ocd https://twitter.com/NoticiasNavarra/status/1289852186508382209?s=20
It would be immensely helpful if we was good enough to get a work permit. I’m assuming the ability to come here later in the season comes about by getting a Spanish passport.
Yes, this story is no different to what Leventhal said the other day. They have just reaffirmed what we already knew that he cannot get a work permit until January at the earliest.
Supposedly it should be feasible for Cucho to have received a Spanish passport after being in Spain for 2 years. He joined Granada on 8 July 2017. Luis Suarez joined Granada on 1 March 2016 then got Spanish citizenship in October 2019, so about 3.5 years later. Estupinan joined Granada in summer 2016 and got a Spanish passport earlier this year, so perhaps it somehow does actually take just over 3 years. I don't know why it seems to have taken such a longer length of time, but if it takes Cucho as long as it did Suarez then that would indeed bring things to January 2021, which ties in with the stories above. I guess we'll have to loan him again to La Liga then consider bringing him back in January. It does make it seem odd that the club made a show of him training here a few months ago, and that even Cucho himself has said that we might want him this season.
I’d imagine there’s a period of time it takes the Spanish government to process the application, before he’ll gain citizenship. No doubt the Covid lockdown made processing times longer.
Penaranda had to wait a very long time before he got his passport, when he was on loan at Malaga in 2017-18, he expected to get the passport in the new year, but I think it took him until part way through last season to get it in the end
Right. If it's anything like the US system, it'll take months from time of filing. Speaking of, did you naturalize yet?
We completed the application for my daughters passport in December, and didn’t receive the physical passport until mid-July, so things are clearly pretty backed up with COVID. Yes, I naturalized a couple of years ago, mainly to make it quicker when getting through the border after flying back into Houston. Did you do it yet?
Yeah, June last year. Figured it was a smart idea given that I didn't trust Trump not to do something stupid about my status.
I think it was almost a year from online filing to taking the oath. My green card technically expired while I was waiting to be processed, which made me a little nervous, but I didn't run into any issues.
