Flores's record of 7 points, 6 goals scored and 18 conceded in 9 league games would suggest to me that it wouldn't be too difficult to find an upgrade

Don't forget bring all players back to defend a corner. Don't even leave Delefeu on the halfway line for a break

You’d find a better manager on the streets of Watford.

But we need an almost world class manager to keep us up. It’s possible, but relies on Gino to find such a gem.

Given he rehired QSF when every intelligent person on here knew we’d park the bus, still concede soft goals and lose pathetically without any fight, this suggests his decision making is seriously impaired.

I didn't. I was one in the 'QSF had a squad of Championship players last time and that's why we went so defensive' camp.

I expected him, with a far better technical squad to do a lot more this time. Instead, he's been exposed as a one trick pony and that trick isn't even a good one anymore.

The writing was on the wall when he moaned about having too much possession in a game. ******* alarm bells started ringing when he dropped that little gem.

We are now in a position where any coach who is an improvement most likely won't want to come to such a **** show, hence the SSN story today and it's highly unlikely we can add much quality to get us out of trouble in January.

The chickens have come home to roost.

We are more than 1/3 of the way though the season and have one win and eight points following on from similar form at the end of last season. We're not staying up.

Would need to rank as one of the great relegation escapes. Nine more wins required from a team that has only scored 13 goals in the last 20 Premier League matches. Six wins since January 2019. With two crocked centre forwards (no way is Deeney match fit), and a headless chicken for a record signing.

Speaking as a headed chicken, I think that's harsh. On chickens.

Indeed. It was an uplifting second half, no doubt about it. I guess QSF has coached it out of them!

Regardless of what league we are in next season, I doubt many want QSF in charge when 2020/21 kicks off

I don't think it can be harsh on chickens per se. It can only be harsh on headless chickens.

I really don’t think it would. If we stayed up (unless things get a lot worse then now) I don’t anyone would bat an eyelid.

That said, the only hope I have that we will survive is that football is a funny old game.

It's much worse than that too. Saw a stat that in his last 118 top flight games in European football across two spells at Watford and one at Espanyol, his teams failed to score 46 times. That's 40% of games written off as potential wins straightaway.

If we don’t start scoring we have no chance. Before the Burnley game I thought we had turned a corner and for the first half I was feeling good, but we just didn’t score , went one down chased the game ended up loosing by three.

I think I am resigned to relegation , only chance I can see is if we pick up 9 points from next six games , not impossible we could beat Southampton , Crystal Palace and Sheffield , that would give us 17 half way though the season , a slight improve 2nd had would then see us safe. Can I see this happening - no sadly not

He relied heavily on an individual hitting a purple-patch both at Watford and Espanyol. His team's rarely create lots of chances!

You are probably right. I tried to get a bit of positivity from reviewing Leicesters great escape. When they won seven out of the last nine games of the season. By game 14 of that season they had 10 points and scored 11 goals (not that different to us this year) but if you look at it they had a pretty benign set of fixtures in the run in. So while all is not lost, I still think we need a lot of optimism to see a way through this.

The fixtures are pretty much irrelevant until we get beyond the half-way stage because any team inevitably still has some games to play against the top teams, some against the middling teams and some against the bottom teams. So the opportunities for points are still there, just in a different order.

Considering our players are getting injured whilst suspended, I think we're pretty screwed.

Unless Pedro is the new Neymar of course...

This is a big reach and a bit ‘tin foil hat’ but you never know there might be something in it.

All the midweek PL games are on Amazon prime next week. I clicked on ours and there is a match preview you can watch. When they get to talking about Watford one of the female pundits says the usual drivel about needing Deeney back, and then she says ‘even if there is a divide’ he can pull the team together.

Then Jermain Jenas goes on to say it wouldn't surprise me if there is a massive divide within the team. One of them then says it’s almost as if you know something and he says ‘it’s almost as if I played the game’ Clinton Morrison then says repeatedly ‘everybody knows something’ while tapping his head.

As I say, possibly a bit of a reach but if you’ve got amazon prime video it’s worth a watch. It definitely seems like Jenas knows for sure there is a big divide in the dressing room.

When you say ‘divide within the team’ it presumably doesn’t mean team v manager, so what? Old players v young players? Deeney v the rest? French speakers v English speakers? Injured v fit? Where do you think this divide lies?

I don’t know, as I say it may be nothing and Jenas guessing. My guess is a divide within the team, not necessarily between the manager and players but who knows. If you’ve got amazon prime it’s worth watching to see what you think. It’s strange they aren’t saying Watford can’t defend or Watford can’t score as the reason we are struggling, but suggest it’s due to some sort of divide.

I'm done with football this year.

I've been one of the eternal optimists on here.

    But I'm done.

Even when we're good enough to win we're being openly and blatantly shafted by the referees.

My enjoyment of the game and my optimism for Watford FC are currently at levels I never thought possible.

I'm going to go and read a book.

I’m starting to think you’re right. Here’s the table for 2002/3 the season West Ham went down on 42pts, after 21 games as now. Looks pretty similar:
