It's good to still see him burying things in the box on TV still.

i can see what he means.. a player that knocks in 20,25 and then 21 goals in consecutive seasons has definetely earned the right to be considered a 'goal-scorer'. Heck, there are so called 'natural goalscorers' with worse records than that; i guess it boils down to the type of player and how you describe them.. Miserable old git gave a pretty good definition above of that instinctive finisher that we are alluding to.

I always remember watching Luther as a kid I could never believe how many chances he missed in games. No way was he natural. One of my best memories was when he run the whole length of the pitch against Arsenal in the qauter finals of the fa cup terrible first shoot and some how managed to put the rebound in they were the days great memories

Luther scored some great goals and lots of them.
But it is one of his miss's that sticks in my mind - a shot from the endge of the box is heading into the net before Luther sticks out his foot and saves it! He was surely looking to divert it in but failed misserably!
He is not a natural goal scorer and neither are many of the suggestions on here.

Cant believe everyone has overlooked Scott Fitzgerald - no goalie was safe from a charge down

David Connolly has to get a mention.

I've been going to home games since 96 my list would be: Connolly, Phillips, King, Ighalo & Vydra....

I've always been super confident that Vydra will bag when infront of goal!

As someone else has mentioned, I thought Mark Falco did well in his short stint. I think he moved to rangers and put a few away up there.
Wilkinson and Penrice weren't too bad either. Malcolm Poskett reminded me of my grandad with his balding head but I'll never forget his header against West Ham when he knelt on the penalty spot waiting for a Callaghan cross and planted it in the old onion basket.
Mo Jo was excellent, a real finisher along with KP. I thought Luther was a great centre forward that didn't get the credit from the media he deserved.
There's some great memories reading this thread.

Although a prolific scorer for us Luther was more quantity than quality, he just worked so hard at trying some were bound to go in, he wasn't nicknamed Luther MISSIT for nothing :naughty:

Spot on unhappy bunny and in the correct order of MoJo, Vydra and Phillips.

I can't believe that Trevor Senior has only had one mention. I was very annoyed that he scored in the only game I missed that season. Maybe I was his jinx and perhaps he would have been Watford's greatest player had I stopped attending.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Chopra is still the last Watford player to score a hat trick.

Sorry moog but you are wrong. Deeney has had two since Chopra. One against Muff in a 6-1 win on their big day out and then in the televised 0-5 away win at Flam.

What is with that choice of music? I never knew he starred in a football-themed 80's porno.

Doesn't count, he was only on loan, I believe the last player that we owned who scored a hatrick was actually Kevin Phillips.

I don't think Marlon would have cared whether you let him or not, or indeed, whether she did.

Vydra the most natural finisher for me
I had this discussion with a supporter who has watched since early 60s, he couldn't think anyone better than Vydra
Blissett an icon but he missed a lot of chances

Mo was just before my time, Vydras technical ability is sublime and is up there with Phillips for me. I still can't believe what a bargain old monkey head Peter Reid had when Sunderland bought Phillips for £600k I think?
