What the Pozzos are doing is a no brainer - making it hard as possible for the Silva deal to go through, It will though and any financial compensation will be a bonus. The main objective is to send out a message that the club is not to be taken lightly by another club or current/future employees. The fact that Everton will have to work for their man so much in the public eye will also increase the expectation on him to succeed, the pressure would be a lot higher than he had here, coupled with the fact the Sam Allardyce escape rout will be a non starter should Silva's defensive failings come to the fore again.

His defensive record on the continent holds up well but in the Prem defending set pieces and crosses are far more imperative. I seem to recall a Hull fan telling us last year that we'd play great football to start but will then ship needless goals, they were spot on so maybe that's the message we can give to Everton - Enjoy it while it lasts, and check out his huge watch of course

@toffeeblue9 every time you concede a corner, even if you play a friendly against Snow White and 7 Dwarfs, you will probably concede a goal.

We wouldn't hate the bloke so much if he was a poor manager, he actually had us playing outstanding football. It was 1983 all over again. What would concern me is that if Everton are top 6 or 7 come the new year then a single sign of interest from a top club will mean he's off, no questions.

If he's good then they'll lose him quickly.
If he's bad then they'll hate him.

That just leaves Everton hoping for a mediocre manager, and they just fired Sam!!!

Yeah, the watch thing that TripleH said is also very odd and says a great deal about the man. An utter be**end.

...don’t forget the fact he’ll likely throw his toys out of the pram when he doesn’t like all the shiny new players this DoF will buy him.

Just don’t make him too many promises when you sign him because he remembers each one and won’t be shy to be public about it if you don’t hold them all.

They've had Moyes before, so only Pardew will fit the bill.

    Everton Forum update:

On their ‘Marco Silva’ thread they are all still up in arms that we have had the gall to raise a complaint. And almost singularly of the belief that the way they do business is fine, the way of the world and a case of David and Goliath and Goliath being able to do as they please...

    However!

They have a simultaneous thread running at the same time, where the same protagonists are passing comment on how they do business and and how shambolic it’s been.

    They are beyond parody.

Cleverley clearly had a great time playing for us when he was a youngster and he has seemed to feel comfortable straight away coming back to us. Personally I suspect he was never going to be quite good enough to play for Man U or England, or even an Everton side looking to finish (what was it?) 7th instead of 8th?

The scenes when they sack Silva and need someone capable of keeping them up. Sam says no. Moyes says no.

7th or 8th, doesn’t matter. I don’t bother looking up that high as that’s where the massive clubs operate.

I would add that two of our players have been particularly unsettled since Silva was tapped up. Gino must have good evidence that Silva tried to influence others to join him at Everton. That would explain the sacking without compensation, effectively for gross misconduct. Hence our strong stance since November. Everton I.e. Moshiri will pay out for Silva's behaviour whatever that amounts to if he wants to get his man.

Now, I'm not close enough to your club to comment on how well run or otherwise it is, but this extract from the Telegraph article is fairly damning!:

"The costs of recruiting a new coach are piling up for Moshiri. As well as compensation upwards of £12m, he will have to pay Allardyce the remaining year of his Goodison contract. That amounts to £6m.

Silva was earning £2.4m a year at Vicarage Road, so will have been offered a healthy salary increase to move to Everton.

Everton are still paying Koeman a portion of his £6m a year salary as part of his termination agreement, despite his new job as Holland head coach. His Everton contract had 16 months to run when he was sacked. And in 2016, Everton had to pay Roberto Martinez £10m following his exit.

I bet they've done the same as Tan did to Mackay at Cardiff and produced a list of all his messages to various players and Everton management.

"Hi m8 do u want 2 come 2 Everton wiv me? They r going 2 pay me £££ and I can get u top dollar 2"

I’ve just flicked through their Summer transfer thread - and they’ve basically convinced themselves that Richarlison to Everton is a done deal and we’d drop our trousers for bids of £15m for Pereyra and Doucoure. They really are comedy brilliance.

You've obviously had limited exposure to Merseysiders "in-the-flesh". 95% of all the calls into the local post-match 'phone-in (BBC Merseyside, '87-'92) used to start with the phrase :

"I didn't see that match but..."

    Superb.

Finally, a rival for Tommy Smith not showing up to his press conference with Reading.

In a way I hope they do get Silva in, we know he doesn't really bother working with the defence and we all know what happens with corners and set-pieces, genuinely believe we'd pick up 4-6 points off them next season knowing his weaknesses.

Sad to **** on everyone’s chips but that ZonalMr guy on twitter has admitted to making up that Doucoure quote and it seems he’s managed to dupe a few local rags and flimsy journalists into turning it into click bait.

Still....not hard to imagine it would be true anyway.

    Yep - fake news!

    Originated from here: https://twitter.com/zonalmr/status/997054519270928384

Have to admit that it's pretty funny though - it's annoyed a lot of Evertonians and exposed just how poor some "journalists" are, the way they've seized on it without checking the legitimacy of it first.

I guess it proves how easy it is to fabricate "news" in today's world. If members of the public do it, you can be sure sections of the press do it also.

There’s a fine line between journalistic integrity and Free Press these days. A virtually non-existent line. What I’d give to go back and make sure social-media never existed...

Neville Southall has just been on the radio saying Everton should ditch chasing Silva (fair enough point)...in favour of appointing Conte or Simeone.

I’m beginning to see why they are all as mental as they come across.

He even credited a "source" so it wouldn't have been that hard for the "journalists" to check whether it was actually true. So so lazy!

It’s mental how they all have pretty much the same opinions. It’s funny to read but must be dull as dishwater to be part of.
