When David updates we will be back above the 17-18 line.

It is looking good again! Especially with the comparable fixture graph finally created...

    The current position is:
    • 1 point better than this time last year (16 vs 15). This is 3 point better than after the last game.
    • 8 points better than the comparable fixtures last year (16 vs 8). This is the same as after the last game
    • 7 points better than the '40 point' line (16 vs 9). This is 2 points better than after the last game.

Best opening quarter in a Premier League season whatever the result against Huddersfield.

A win in that game would make it our best ever start after 10 games in the top flight!

I like the improvement in each of the last 4 seasons. 4>3>2>1 - shows we are really getting to grips with the PL and you cant ask for much more.

Think you could be safe with 30/31 points this season.

So having now achieved the threads target 18-19 points, what would be a disappointing total for the season - 50 points?

The gulf on the comparable teams chart is staggering. Suggests we have begun to believe in ourselves - hope we can just continue with steady progress. As always thanks David

Now we've reached the 18-19 points total, is it time to start a new thread?

Looking at the graph its a weird sort of optical illusion that even though we are basically half way to 40 points, because we’ve hit it so early it still looks like a lot longer to 40 points than it has been to get to 20!

I've only just noticed that 4 out of our last 5 away games are Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea. Good job our away form currently is ok

I don’t think 40 points will be the mark this year. I reckon max you will need to stay up is 33, some absolute dross in the league this season.

If the form of the bottom 4 teams in their first 10 games is extrapolated over the rest of the season, we are just about safe already even if we don't gain another point all season!

The table after 10 games is interesting:
    • The top 8 (The big six plus WFC and AFCB) have a joint goal difference of +87
    • The middle 4 (EFC, BHAFC, WWFC and LCFC) have an aggregate goal difference of 0
    • The bottom 8 (assorted dross) have a joint goal difference of -87
There is a gap of 5 points between the middle and bottom groups!

Pretty shocking stat considering just over a quarter of the season gone. Another is that we have scored as many goals as the Terriers, Magpies and Saints combined. I am not complaining but objectively we have not been exceptional in front of goal meaning we have scored three on two occasions and failed to score in two matches. It would be interesting to see across all 20 clubs the number of goals scored in each position. I don't think relatively many have been scored by centre-forwards compared to other positions.

It's surprising because at the start of the season I thought the league looked stronger than previous seasons with exception of Cardiff though actually they've arguably done better than I expected

Neil Warnock has a certain charm and character on teams that has always pleased people. Just Google his halftime team talk when he was a Huddersfield manager to see his full fury. If, by sone crazy reason we appointed him one day I would not say no.

But he may well retire after his Cardiff gig is up. Will be a loss to the game, more so than Fat Sam.

    Interesting analysis on twitter:

    https://twitter.com/thehuwdavies/status/1057396007753916417?s=19

"Liverpool have the most points of any team in 2nd at this stage of a PL season. Chelsea have the most points of any team in 3rd; Arsenal, the most of any in 4th; Spurs, the most of any in 5th; Bournemouth & Watford (!), the most of any in 6th & 7th. The weak are getting weaker..."

    Interesting but useless stat

The ages of the Crystal palace and Cardiff Managers combined are 140 which are the same as those of Watford, Spurs and Arsenal Managers
    Palace Hodgson 71
    Cardiff Warnock 69

    Watford Gracia 48
    Spurs Pochettino 46
    Arsenal Emery 46
A heavy price to pay for experience, had I thrown Eddie Howe at 40 into the equation With Santo at 44 and Silva at 41 would have had years to spare!

May well be lined up as the replacement after Pardew is sacked in Feb.
Pardew of course being the replacement for Gracia (who is sacked after losing 12 successive games immediately after after signing a 3 year deal with us, possibly distracted after the unwarranted approach from Everton following their sacking of Silva).

Are we the only team outside traditional 'big five' (ie excluding Man U*) to have beaten one of the traditional 'big five' (ie excluding Man U*)?

*Because they are shyte this season (even though they beat us)

This has so far been our best ever start, including the season when we came 2nd.

However, we need to get back to winning ways if we are going to continue maintaining this run. Considering we picked up a maximum 12 points from the first 4 games, we've only managed 8 points from the next 8 games.

    18/19: 20
    17/18: 18
    16/17: 18
    15/16: 16
    06/07: 9
    99/00: 9
    87/88: 8
    86/87: 14
    85/86: 19
    84/85: 8

Sorry for delay in updating this week, I was away from my computer celebrating my 15th wedding anniversary. Punching above my weight for 15 years in a row... that's the way I roll!

(and last week we lost to Newcastle I and couldn't bring myself to post)

There has been much nashing of teeth and loud wailing over our recent form. Hopefully the following graphs will make us all feel a lot happier. Our best ever start to top flight season (still!).

A tough run coming up... but this is an amazing start! And it looks very likely the 40pt line will be a lot lower this season.

But we still didn't beat Mark Hughes :(

    The current position is:
    • 2 points better than this time last year (20 vs 18). This is 2 points worse than after the last game.
    • 6 points better than the comparable fixtures last year (20 vs 14). This is 2 points worse than after the last game.
    • 7 points better than the '40 point' line (20 vs 13). This is the same as after the last game
