His hold up play was a myth, it was like passing the ball to a trampoline. He was lazy, unfit & couldn't score. I wouldn't take him at £2m, I wouldn't take him for free.
It says a lot about our interest in signing any more players that the most active post is one on an ex loanee joining another club!
At least at Forest he managed to do all that while scoring a goal every 4 games, his ratio wasn't far off that for us, but he wasn't able to perform as he was spent by half time
….and when we do unwrap the cellophane, we’ll find there was an error at the printers, when we see the pack containing nothing but jokers.
Slightly concerned that Udinese are interested - they won’t be giving us Dennis. But I could see this as a way of us getting Davis for nothing.
Any rumours from resident ITK forum members? @DrewH @Goldenorn @Burnsy @YellowKicks It does feel as though nothing is happening
I think Davis is underrated. Sure he came across lazy and disinterested whilst with us, but he was part of a culture where that was the norm at the club. He comes across as someone who is laid-back, but if the culture is a hardworking one, I think he'd go along with that too. However, I think Davis is a lot better than Success. If anything like this were to happen, if they sign Davis/Dennis or both of them, I doubt either would be loaned to us. In this situation I think it's far more likely we'd get Success back.
Udinese were doing terribly - then they got Marino in, did some smart recruitment and got fans back on side. From the outside looking in, they seem to be taking on a lot of dross from us and I can see them really struggling this season. Kabasele seems to be a regular at the moment!
I think the trouble was fans and clubs expecting him to be a free scoring striker which he probably never will be. At Forest I think Davis held the ball up and used his physic to bully defenders allowing others to get forward and into goal scoring positions themselves. Even with them he had injury issues though. Success had the potentially to be Deeney like but never produced it which is probably why Troy was kept on for longer than really should have been. If he comes back not sure the club can really hang their hat on the bad eggs/trouble in the dressing room line really.
I honestly wouldn't be upset with signing him, even though I couldn't stand him last season. He could/would score 10 goals and that will go a long way to keeping us up. Let's face it we aren't anywhere near being a team that can go up and a player who can score double figures for in the region of £2m is exactly the type of signing we should be focused on
He wasn't consistent or prolific enough for the team we were trying to be this season. He would be more than adequate for the team we have to be this season.
He scored 7 goals last season, there's no way he's guaranteed to score 10 this season, especially as the individual quality in the squad has gone down. Besides, he was shattered after half an hour every game, how on earth would he cope with Valball?
This, Davis just doesn't get into the box enough, especially for VIs system. Hilariously Bayos already hit 24% of Davis xG total across last season in just 4 games (just need some more goals to show for it..)
Hakeem Odoffin was the last name I’d heard but that was nearly a month ago. Surprised Choudhury hasn’t moved on from Leicester yet. Maybe one to keep an eye on. Still think we’ll see Abankwah join from Udinese, possibly Semedo as well.
Apparently Abankwah can also play at RB, which would be a bonus in emergencies. Very very young though! Semedo is a forward isn't he? I don't think an unproven kid is what we need there, we have the quantity, it's the quality that could do with improving there
There are a lot of opinions suggesting Davis wasn't fit enough or didn't work hard enough. The fact he didn't get into the box enough would seem to support this. Do other stats also back up the view that Davis covered less ground / pressed less intensely etc.?
Plus he had almost no aerial ability at all. Think there was a point where Asprilla was winning more high balls than him.
28 goals in 178 games at the age of 25. Can he even call himself a striker? Can he even call himself a footballer??
