As I say no doubt he will excel at Hull maybe alongside someone who can score goals or hold the ball up for others to run onto which is what he did at Forest . For 15 million we probably expected a 20 goal a season man ! However as @WatfordTalk says he has fitness issues probably made worse by us . I mean Danny Welbeck seems to play for Brighton most weeks !
Very difficult player to like. Didn't work hard off the ball but still ran out of gas early, constantly moaned at team mates, kept hold of the ball too long, couldn't shoot with his right foot, useless in the air in the box, got caught up in pointless spats with the opposition, loved a dive, frequently offside. But then as you say, every now and again he'd do something really good. Can only conclude that talent is there but mentality isn't (probably not helped by coming to a complete mess of a club).
It wasn't so much the loan signing, it was the obligation to make it permanent for £15m had we gained promotion. Just a crazy OTT commitment, made by people you just do not know what they are doing, as the last 4 years that proved time and time again.
Not a done deal just yet but seems the fee has been agreed . https://twitter.com/AVFCTheReligion/status/1693931493066752453
£2m plus add-ons. Sounds like a good deal for Hull. I wouldn't be against signing him for that price, even with all his faults. If they get him fit and motivated, they've got a player on their hands for sure.
I reckon the biggest irony of Davis' spell for us was at Norwich. He was immense (not in a Tufan sense!) that evening and had their 2 centre backs on toast for around 50 mins before the Davis hammie went (one of the 3 that game?!). I thought (still think) there is a decent striker in there if played in the right system and, like others, if that lower price is true I would take that in an instant. We will see with Hull if we had the wrong set-up/managers to get a decent tune out of him last season. That might just be the case.
Yeah, at the 15m or whatever we were quoted, he was a ******* liability, but for 2m, with the right motivation and the right set up, he could do a job for someone. I wouldn't be upset to see Hull taking that risk on him rather than us, mind you.
Will be a revelation for Hull without the handicap of Edwards pre-season. 15 goals and Tufan will lead the divisional assists.
Yes I know . Given his lack of fitness, and the state Hause was in when we signed him, their pre-seasons must be even worse than an Edwrads pre-season.
Tbh I'd never really seen him play but in fact got excited about watching him due to this forum. That dwindled away at a great rate though. If he was that good for Forest you'd of expected a bid from Forest or other lower Prem clubs. But alas they knew how much of a waster he is.
£2m for Davies still looks like good Championship business, despite mixed opinions on his performances last season. In some respects it's a shame that he spent last season underperforming with us rather than some other Championship club, as I imagine that had his experience at The Vic not cast a shadow over things this is the sort of deal that might have suited both parties in the current circumstances. Then again, not sure whether he has the necessary mental or physical attributes to suit VI's system even if it was on the cards. And given both club and managers apparent determination to find a player that ticks all their respective boxes would probably be the right call to not move in that direction anyway.
I think Davis just lacks natural fitness, he's always had injuries and even when he got a decent run last season with us (for the first time in his career) he looked ****ed after half an hour. Tufan on the other hand looked like he ate too many burgers
True and some feel he would fit Ismael style of football better . Mind you we’ll probably have another manager in weeks .
That's probably because most of them went big on predicting how well he'd do here in the first place. Just doubling down now.
His hold up play is better than we what we currently have but Davis is worse than Bayo in front of goal and is absolutely useless in the air. Not sure he'd be a great fit personally.
2m is a bargain for him. Sadly he wasn’t good enough for us last year and I don’t want us to sign him, but all round he’s still better than any striker we have on the books.
Davis is one of those modern strikers who can do a lot of stuff well, drops deep to pick up the ball, can hold it up, good touch for a big fella, make a pass - lots of stuff …..except for putting the ball in the old onion bag. That’s all I want. Just someone who can do that once every 2 games. Not too much to ask is it?
Someone who is guaranteed/ expected to score one in two at this level is way out of our budget. Just look at the price the strikers who have achieved that have moved on for. The challenge is to spend peanuts and unearth the next guy who will go in to achieve that. That’s what every team in the land is trying to do. Not that easy.
The upside if we don’t bring in “3 or 4 quality additions” is it will make Wendover look like a fool (again) after lecturing all and sundry on the matter.
Which is basically what the Forests fans said but both the club and some fans obviously expected a free scoring striker going by the price we agreed to pay for Davis and the hype around him . You’d almost feel he would be better in a two or laying the ball off to others running onto the ball but we don’t have that sort .
