So we never made an offer then. Perhaps we had a look and decided to go with Healy instead.

Perhaps Leventhal is also wrong about us giving up on Styles.

 

I don’t wish to be pedantic and I’ve not looked for the AL tweet but my memory of it was it said something like we had interest in Cho and Styles but a lot of work remained to be done, or something along those lines. I don’t recall him ever saying we’d put an offer on the table?

If I’m wrong I apologise but did AL ever say Cho was our top target?

Could it not be that Cho was a number of players we were looking at for a certain role. Isnt that how it's supposed to work allegedly? The head coach wants a player of a certain type or in a certain role so we get a list together of players that we could realisticly afford and then a decision gets made and signed off by VI? Perhaps it's most likely Cho was one of those players we looked at but went elsewhere? Or we have no money.

 

According to Leventhal we are supposedly still after another target man type striker. Not that Leventhal has been particularly good for info lately.

Maybe AL gambled a little on the so called interest that was out there. Imo he could be just another Bayo or even worse.

I do wonder a bit still about the assumption that we must be very interested in Styles.

A decent amount of this is based on Ismael having worked with him before, but he wasn't even an Ismael signing, he was already at Barnsley. It doesn't necessarily mean Ismael still sees him as the best signing we could make.

For instance, all the no.6s we've been linked with are more physical destroyer types than Styles is, and we've even played Sierralta there in pre-season who is very much a destroyer. Meanwhile, it also doesn't seem clearl if we will play with a LB or LWB, and I don't think Styles really plays as a LB. Maybe, if it's possible, we might even prefer Zemura for that role for example?

Maybe we can't even spend as much as £2mil on any player, but even then it doesn't automatically mean Styles would have been our top target if we could.

 

Gino has his price and whatever that is, he won’t go above it.

“X” player can be and is worth £5mil

Gino will have his mind on £3-4mil. Even though it’s only a difference of £1-2mil and that player will significantly improve us, Gino simply will not go above what he thinks the player is worth. Hence why in my opinion we won’t sign more than 1 player in the next couple of weeks. Then it will all be on the final week of the window after the season has started. That’s when “bargains” happen.

 

@Goldenorn can you shed any light on if a target man striker will still be signed or has it gone quiet?

It’s definitely one of the positions they want to sign, haven’t heard any specific developments though
